You can keep a YouTube channel live around the clock with scheduled video content, but scheduling an event is not the same as automating a broadcast. YouTube Studio can create a scheduled live event and watch page; a software encoder, hardware encoder, or cloud service still has to send and loop the video feed. For a hands-off feed, StreamNeo runs uploaded videos from the cloud to YouTube. For a do-it-yourself setup, schedule the event in Studio and keep an encoder running and monitored.
Choose how the video will reach YouTube
A scheduled event gives viewers a time and a page to visit; it does not provide video on its own. To stay live continuously, your chosen workflow must send a feed to YouTube and keep it running, including reconnecting or restarting it when something fails.

| Workflow | What it does | What to assess |
|---|---|---|
| Software encoder on a computer | Sends prepared video from a computer to YouTube. | Whether the computer, power, and internet connection can stay available; how looping, restarts, recording, and monitoring will work. |
| Standalone hardware encoder | Sends a feed using dedicated encoding equipment. | Input compatibility, supported formats, reliability, setup complexity, and whether it can play the intended playlist. |
| Cloud service for prerecorded video | Runs the feed remotely, rather than relying on a computer at home. | Current price and terms, supported formats, recovery behavior, availability, permissions, and archive handling. |
YouTube’s encoder guide describes software and standalone hardware encoders and includes Gyre in its directory of verified encoders as a cloud service for 24/7 prerecorded-video streaming. That listing is not a YouTube endorsement or a guarantee of uptime, pricing, or commercial terms. StreamNeo is another cloud option for keeping uploaded videos live on YouTube; details are below.

YouTube’s live-streaming eligibility guidance says a channel must be verified and must not have had live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days. It also states that streamers must be at least 16 years old. Check the channel’s current status before building an always-on schedule; if it is not eligible, resolve the restriction or verification issue before proceeding.

Schedule the YouTube event
- Open YouTube Studio: select Create → Go live, then open the Manage tab.
- Schedule the stream: create a new stream and set its title, description, date and time, and visibility. Scheduling creates a watch page that you can share and promote in advance.
- Review the event details: confirm the time zone, visibility, and viewer-facing information before sharing the URL. The schedule is the event listing, not the video feed.
See YouTube’s encoder setup instructions for the current Studio workflow and event options.
Connect and run a do-it-yourself encoder
- Get the stream connection details: in Live Control Room, open the scheduled stream’s settings and copy the stream URL and stream key into your encoder. YouTube describes the key as the credential that lets an encoder send the feed. Treat it as private: do not publish it or share it with anyone who should not control the broadcast.
- Configure the playlist: load the recordings in the encoder or playback workflow you selected and enable looping or automatic continuation if it supports those functions. Check that the playlist does not end, pause for manual input, or include an unintended gap between videos.
- Start the encoder before the event: send the feed early and check the incoming preview in Live Control Room. YouTube recommends preparing the encoder ahead of time so you can catch connection, picture, or audio problems before viewers arrive.
- Start the scheduled event: once the preview is correct, begin the event from the encoder or Live Control Room as required by your setup. Confirm that the public watch page shows the live feed.
- Keep the operation observable: monitor audio and picture quality and check that the feed continues through playlist transitions. If you use a backup feed, test failover before relying on it.
Network and continuity settings
Size the upload connection for the encoder’s total outbound bitrate, including a backup feed if one runs at the same time. YouTube recommends about 20% more outbound bandwidth than the required bitrate. Use a stable connection and leave headroom for normal network variation; a speed test alone does not guarantee an uninterrupted broadcast.

The exact resolution, bitrate, and encoder settings depend on the source video and encoder. Follow YouTube’s current streaming tips and the encoder manufacturer’s instructions for the format you are sending rather than applying a single bitrate to every quality level.
Plan for archives, copyright, and channel policy
Do not rely on a full automatic archive of a 24/7 stream
YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. Its guidance does not establish that a continuous 24-hour broadcast will produce a complete automatic archive. If you need a full recording, arrange local recording or another archive workflow, and verify the resulting files and current YouTube behavior rather than assuming the entire broadcast will be saved.

Confirm rights and policy compliance for every recording
Having a file available to play does not establish that you have the rights to broadcast its music, video, or other material. Check that you have permission for the content and any included third-party material, and review YouTube’s current copyright and live-streaming policies before scheduling a continuous feed. Reusing recordings does not exempt a channel from those rules or from YouTube’s monetization policies.
Or let it run in the cloud
StreamNeo keeps uploaded videos live on YouTube from the cloud. Upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. It plays the video you uploaded; it does not broadcast a camera feed.

| Symptom | Likely cause | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| No incoming preview | The encoder is not sending, or the stream URL or key is incorrect. | Confirm the encoder is started and connected to the correct scheduled stream; recheck the URL and key in Live Control Room and the encoder. |
| Video drops or quality fluctuates | Insufficient or unstable upload bandwidth, especially if the connection is near the total outgoing bitrate. | Reduce competing upload traffic, check the encoder’s bitrate, and provide the recommended network headroom. Test the connection over the period and conditions in which it will run. |
| Broadcast stops when the computer shuts down | The software encoder depends on that computer and its local power and internet connection. | Keep the computer powered and connected, plan for restart and reconnect behavior, or move the prerecorded-video workflow to a cloud service. |
| Playlist ends or pauses | Looping or continuation is not enabled, or the playlist has a gap or unsupported item. | Check the playlist order and loop setting, then test a complete transition before leaving the stream unattended. |
| Audio or picture is missing in the preview | Incorrect encoder input, media settings, or source content. | Check the preview before going live, verify the selected video and audio sources, and test the affected recording in the encoder. |
| Archive is incomplete or absent | The broadcast lasted 12 hours or longer, beyond the duration for which YouTube’s guidance says streams are automatically archived. | Use a separate recording or archive workflow for a 24/7 session and confirm the saved result. |
Estimate costs before choosing a workflow
A computer-based feed may require no dedicated encoder purchase if you already have suitable equipment, but the computer, power, and connection must remain available and someone needs a plan for monitoring and recovery. A hardware encoder adds equipment and setup considerations. A cloud service has a recurring or short-term service cost but moves the always-on operation away from your home computer. YouTube’s encoder guidance does not provide a neutral comparison of total costs or reliability, so compare the actual equipment, connectivity, service terms, archive needs, and recovery arrangements for your own setup.
