It is not automatically approved for every channel: verify the channel, keep a clean live-stream record, own the rights to every element, and follow YouTube’s Community Guidelines and Terms of Service. A 24/7 loop also does not guarantee monetisation, and a broadcast running longer than 12 hours may not be saved as a replay.
What “live 24/7” means on YouTube
You are not uploading one video and asking YouTube to replay it as a normal on-demand video. An encoder reads your uploaded files, creates a continuous programme, and sends that programme to a YouTube Live event. Viewers see a live watch page while the encoder remains connected.

The source can be a single recording, a playlist, or a scheduled sequence. The feed may be technically live even though every frame was recorded earlier. YouTube still evaluates the channel, the programme and every asset in it. There is no blanket advance approval for all-day prerecorded channels.
Eligibility before you configure anything
- Verify the YouTube channel.
- Confirm that the channel has had no live-streaming restriction in the previous 90 days.
- Make sure the planned stream follows YouTube’s Community Guidelines and Terms of Service. YouTube’s guidance states that all content in live streams must comply with both.
- Check the channel’s live-stream limits: YouTube’s current guidance allows up to 10 active streams per channel and up to three active streams per stream key.
A live-stream strike can block live streaming for 14 days. Creating or using another channel to evade an active restriction is prohibited.

Choose how the feed will stay online
There are two practical operating models. A local encoder gives you direct control but makes uptime your responsibility. A hosted service runs the encoder in a provider’s infrastructure, so your home computer and connection do not have to remain on.
| Approach | What remains your responsibility | What happens after a home power or internet failure | Best fit |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1. StreamNeo cloud streaming | Rights, YouTube policy compliance, stream-key security, programme choices and monitoring | The cloud service continues independently of a home computer; StreamNeo advertises automatic recovery if YouTube drops the stream. | Creators who want an always-on YouTube stream without maintaining an encoder at home |
| 2. Local OBS or another encoder | Computer uptime, encoder settings, playlist operation, power, network, recovery and monitoring | The YouTube broadcast stops unless you restore the encoder and connection. | Creators who need local scene control, overlays or a do-it-yourself workflow |
Neither model removes copyright, Community Guidelines, channel-eligibility or monetisation requirements. A local recording can preserve an archive, but it cannot keep a failed YouTube connection live.
Method 1: run a 24/7 loop with OBS
1. Prepare the channel and programme
- Complete channel verification and review the live dashboard for restrictions.
- Decide whether the event will be public, unlisted or private while testing. A private or unlisted test is safer than publishing an untested loop.
- Collect the recordings and build a playlist order. Inspect the end and beginning of every item so that transitions do not create accidental black or silent gaps.
- Prepare the title, description, thumbnail and visibility setting in YouTube Studio.
2. Create the YouTube Live event and protect the key
- In YouTube Studio, create or schedule a live stream and choose the encoder workflow.
- Copy the server URL and stream key into OBS only. Treat the key like a password; do not paste it into screenshots, public documents or chat.
- If the key is exposed, rotate it in YouTube Studio before starting another broadcast.
3. Add the prerecorded source in OBS
- Open OBS and create a scene dedicated to the continuous programme.
- Add a Media Source for a recording. Enable looping when one file should repeat.
- For several files, use a playlist or a documented scene/source sequence that advances after each item. Confirm that the selected files remain available at their original paths and that the operating system will not put the computer to sleep.
- If you use overlays, captions or scene changes, preview the complete chain before publishing. Every overlay, image, voice recording and music track is part of the rights review.
4. Configure output without guessing
Match the output resolution and frame rate to the programme you actually own and intend to deliver. Configure the encoder, codec, bitrate, rate-control mode and keyframe interval according to the current encoder instructions shown by YouTube for that resolution and codec. There is no universal computer specification: the load depends on resolution, codec, overlays and how many outputs run at once.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
Do not upscale a low-resolution source solely to claim a higher-quality stream. Test motion, text readability, audio levels and scene transitions at the final output settings. Watch the OBS statistics panel for dropped frames, rendering or encoding overload, and correct the cause before going public.
5. Test privately, then start
- Start streaming from OBS while the YouTube event is private or unlisted.
- Open the YouTube preview on another device or network. Check picture, audio, aspect ratio, title, thumbnail, playlist order and the first loop transition.
- Stop and restart the encoder once during testing. Confirm that the stream key, source paths and playlist recover as expected.
- When the test is clean, set the intended visibility and start the public broadcast.
6. Keep the local system alive
- Disable sleep, hibernation and automatic restarts that could interrupt OBS.
- Use a dedicated streaming PC or mini PC when the channel must run continuously; the required hardware varies with resolution, codec and overlays.
- Connect the encoder and networking equipment to backup power where a short outage would otherwise stop the feed.
- Document who checks YouTube Studio, what constitutes a failure and the exact stop/restart sequence.
- Where justified, prepare a second internet path. A local recording is useful as an archive backup, but it cannot replace the live connection after an encoder or network failure.
Method 2: run the feed from a hosted service
A hosted provider receives your uploaded recording or playlist and sends the live feed from its own infrastructure. You still control the YouTube channel and remain responsible for rights, policy compliance, stream-key security and monitoring, but your home computer can be off.

- Creator or rights holder
- Licence or written permission
- Permitted territory and platform
- Licence duration
- Attribution requirements
- Replay and monetisation rights
- Rights-management contact
YouTube scans all live streams for third-party matches, including copyrighted material from another live broadcast. A match can replace the programme with a placeholder, show a warning, interrupt the feed or terminate it. Even when you have a licence, the rights holder may need to add your channel to a Content ID allowlist. Obtain that confirmation before relying on the asset in an unattended loop.

Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minuteReplays, archives and the 12-hour issue
A stream longer than 12 hours may not be captured as a replay. Treat 12 hours as an operational warning, not a guaranteed safe maximum. If replay copies matter, divide the schedule into conservative sub-12-hour sessions and restart deliberately between them. Keep a separate local recording or an original-file archive; that backup does not keep the public broadcast running if the encoder fails.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. Why a 24/7 stream may not be monetised
Live permission and monetisation are separate decisions. A channel can be allowed to livestream and still fail YouTube’s reused-content or originality review. Permission from a rights holder answers whether you may use an asset; it does not prove that the channel adds original work or authentic value.
A small set of clips in a simple repeating loop can be technically stable yet provide little evidence of original commentary, curation or transformation. If monetisation is important, document your original production, explain the editorial purpose of the schedule, and avoid presenting repetitive third-party material as a substantial original programme. No 24/7 format guarantees approval.
Reliability runbook for an unattended channel
- Run a private or unlisted test and observe at least one complete loop transition.
- Confirm the YouTube preview, live status and alerts from a separate device.
- Keep the stream key private and rotate it if exposed.
- Check for black frames, silent gaps, stuck sources, clipping audio and incorrect aspect ratio.
- Record the stop/restart procedure, including where the playlist and key are stored securely.
- Assign a responsible operator and a check schedule; “24/7” does not mean “never monitor.”
- Prepare backup power and, where justified, network failover for a local encoder.
- For replay-sensitive programming, schedule sub-12-hour sessions and preserve a separate local copy.
Troubleshooting common failures
YouTube will not let the channel go live
Check verification and the previous-90-day restriction history first. A current live-stream restriction must be resolved through YouTube’s process; do not attempt to evade it with another channel.

The stream shows a copyright warning or stops
Identify the exact asset that triggered the match. Remove it or obtain the required licence and Content ID allowlist confirmation. Check every item in the loop, not only the file that was playing when the warning appeared.
OBS is connected but the picture freezes
Inspect source paths, playlist advancement, rendering and encoding load. A disconnected drive, sleeping computer or encoder overload can leave a live connection with no useful frames. Test with the final resolution, codec and overlay stack rather than a lighter preview configuration.
Viewers report dropped frames or buffering
Check the encoder’s dropped-frame statistics and the stability of the upload connection. Reduce unnecessary overlay or encoding load, follow YouTube’s current bitrate guidance for the selected output, and use a backup network path when the channel justifies it.
The loop has black or silent gaps
Play every transition before publishing. Confirm that media files have compatible properties, that the playlist advances, and that audio is present at the beginning and end of each item. A hosted service does not fix a gap that already exists in your uploaded programme.
The replay is missing after an all-day broadcast
Streams over 12 hours may not be captured as replays. Use shorter sessions when replay availability matters and retain a separate recording.
The channel is live but monetisation is rejected
Review the programme for reused or inauthentic presentation. Copyright permission alone is not an originality decision; add meaningful original commentary, curation or transformation where appropriate and review the channel-level monetisation requirements.
Local encoder or cloud service: a practical decision
- Choose OBS when you need detailed local scene changes, overlays or direct control and can provide reliable power, internet and an operator.
- Choose a hosted workflow when the priority is keeping the channel online while your computer is off and reducing home recovery work.
- Use shorter, deliberately restarted sessions when replay copies are more important than one uninterrupted event.
- Use either approach only after rights, channel eligibility and policy checks are complete.
The technical loop is the easy part. A dependable 24/7 channel is the combination of an eligible account, cleared rights, a tested programme, a recovery plan and an operating model that matches the uptime you can actually maintain.
