Add the station logo as an image or graphic source in the encoder scene that sends video to YouTube. Keep that source enabled in every scene or program state where the logo should appear, then confirm it is visible in YouTube’s live preview before leaving the stream unattended. YouTube’s encoder guidance supports overlays and graphics; its channel video watermark is a separate feature with different display behavior.
How to add a persistent logo overlay
- Prepare the logo. Use a clean image sized appropriately for the stream frame. A transparent background usually works well because it lets the underlying video remain visible; this is production guidance, not a YouTube requirement.
- Add it to the encoder scene. In your encoder software, add the image or graphic as a source, then position and size it over the video canvas. Keep the source enabled in every scene used during the broadcast. Check scene transitions and any scheduled visual changes so the logo does not disappear when the program changes. YouTube describes encoder software as supporting overlays and graphics (YouTube encoder guidance).
- Connect to YouTube. In YouTube Studio, use the stream URL and stream key for the broadcast in your encoder’s streaming settings. The key authorizes the encoder to send the feed, so treat it like a password and do not share it publicly (YouTube encoder guidance; YouTube stream-key guidance).
- Preview before going live. Open the Live Control Room preview and check that the logo appears in the encoded picture at its intended size and position. YouTube recommends previewing the stream and checking its availability and audio/video quality (YouTube live-stream setup guidance).
- Verify changes during a test. Watch the stream through scene changes and after restarting or changing the program. Confirm the logo persists in the actual output, not only in the encoder’s editing canvas.
Encoder overlay or YouTube video watermark?
For a logo that is part of the stream picture itself, use the encoder overlay. YouTube’s video watermark is channel branding applied by YouTube, not a graphic source composed into the video feed. YouTube offers watermark display options for the end of a video, a custom start time, or the entire video, and documents size and file requirements. Its display has limitations: watermarks are available in landscape view on computers and mobile devices, do not appear on custom chromeless players or Adobe Flash, and are unavailable on videos set as made for kids (YouTube video-watermark guidance).

A watermark can complement channel branding, but it is not a dependable substitute when the requirement is for the station mark to be baked into the outgoing picture throughout a 24/7 broadcast.

Keep the logo visible and the stream stable
Check every program state
A logo remains visible only while the outgoing composition includes it. Test the full feed before relying on continuous operation: check the preview, watch page, scene changes, and behavior after a restart or program change. YouTube advises setting up encoders ahead of an event, previewing the output, confirming stream availability, and monitoring audio and video quality (YouTube live-stream setup guidance).

Allow upload bandwidth headroom
Your internet connection needs enough upload capacity for the stream to continue reliably. YouTube Help recommends leaving about 20% room beyond the stream bitrate. Treat this as YouTube’s recommendation, not a guaranteed station-specific requirement; test the connection and avoid using all available upload bandwidth for the stream (YouTube streaming tips).
Choose software or hardware for the operation, not the logo
YouTube supports both software and hardware encoders. Its guidance recommends professional-grade hardware encoders for higher-production events, but dedicated hardware is not required merely to display a logo. Consider whether the station already has a suitable computer, the expected operating time and restart recovery, needed inputs and outputs, monitoring and failover, and purchase and operating costs before choosing a dedicated encoder (YouTube encoder guidance; YouTube hardware encoder guidance).

For a prerecorded video loop: cloud operation
If the station broadcasts a prerecorded visual loop rather than a live camera or studio feed, YouTube’s encoder guide lists Gyre as a cloud-based option for 24/7 live streaming of prerecorded videos (YouTube encoder guidance). Confirm that any service’s current capabilities fit the station’s audio, logo-composition, and rights requirements. A cloud workflow can reduce dependence on a computer at the station, but confirm how it handles the exact composition you want viewers to see.
Or let it run in the cloud
For a prerecorded radio-station video loop, StreamNeo keeps a YouTube channel live from uploaded videos. Upload the recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. The logo must be part of the uploaded video itself if it needs to appear in the picture; StreamNeo plays uploaded videos rather than broadcasting a camera feed.

Troubleshooting: when the logo disappears
- Logo is missing after a scene change: The image source may not be enabled in the new scene. Add or enable it in each scene where it should appear, then test the transition in the outgoing preview.
- Logo appears in the editor but not on YouTube: Check the Live Control Room preview and confirm the encoder is sending the intended scene and composition. YouTube recommends checking the preview and stream availability before going live (YouTube live-stream setup guidance).
- The stream drops or becomes unstable: Check the encoder, power, and network connection, and test with upload headroom. YouTube recommends leaving about 20% beyond the stream bitrate (YouTube streaming tips).
- The watermark does not appear everywhere: Watermark display has platform and video-setting limitations, including videos set as made for kids. Use an encoder overlay when the logo needs to be part of the picture (YouTube video-watermark guidance).
