If OBS crashes, YouTube stops receiving fresh audio and video from it; OBS’s automatic reconnect setting does not relaunch the crashed app. Restart OBS, reconnect it to the correct YouTube event, and start streaming again. To reduce the work of keeping a playlist live around the clock, you can instead run uploaded videos from StreamNeo’s cloud, without leaving a computer on at home.
What an OBS crash means for your YouTube live stream
OBS sends an encoder feed to YouTube using a server URL and stream key. When the OBS process crashes, that feed ends: YouTube cannot keep receiving new audio and video from the closed app. YouTube’s encoder setup guide explains how the encoder connects to the stream.

OBS has an automatic reconnect option for connection interruptions. It is not a process supervisor, so it does not reopen OBS after a crash. The distinction matters: reconnect can help when OBS is still running but loses its connection; a crashed application needs to be restarted separately. OBS documents reconnect under its Advanced settings.

Set up the Hindi podcast playlist before going live
1. Create or select the YouTube event
In YouTube Studio, open Live Control Room and create or schedule the broadcast. Keep the event’s stream settings available. YouTube allows a scheduled event to reuse prior settings, including the stream key and auto-start/auto-stop selections; check those selections rather than assuming they are right for this broadcast. Treat the stream key as a password: anyone who has it may be able to send a feed to your channel. See YouTube’s live stream settings guidance.

Get the desired level via monitoring volume control when gaming recording. Smooth mic gain knob on the PC microphone gaming has some resistance to the point, easily for audio attenuation or boost presence to less post-production audio. (Only available for USB connection)
2. Connect OBS to the same event
In OBS, select YouTube as the service if it is available, or enter the YouTube server URL and stream key from the event. YouTube documents both connection approaches in its encoder setup instructions. If you reset the stream key in YouTube, update the encoder configuration too; YouTube’s troubleshooting guidance notes that a reset key must be updated in the encoder.
3. Add and configure the playlist
For a playlist of local podcast video files, add a VLC Video Source to the OBS scene, choose the files in the intended order, and enable Loop Playlist. VLC must be installed; if you run 64-bit OBS, use 64-bit VLC. The OBS Media Sources guide describes playlist looping. For one local audio or video file rather than a playlist, use a Media Source and turn on Loop.

- Positionable design: Pivot the mic in relation to the sound source to optimize your sound quality thanks to the adjustable desktop stand and track your voice in real time with no-latency monitoring
Optionally enable local recording and choose a recording path. YouTube recommends checking that a local archive is being created and that its file size is increasing during a broadcast. A separate external drive can provide storage, but it will not prevent a software crash or keep the live feed running. See YouTube’s live streaming tips.
5. Check bandwidth and stream health
YouTube’s guidance is that total streaming bitrate must not exceed available upload bandwidth, and it recommends 20% upload headroom. That is operational guidance, not a measured guarantee of continuity. The appropriate bitrate depends on your chosen output and connection; check YouTube’s network preparation guidance and monitor the encoder’s health rather than assuming a connection is sufficient.

What to do when OBS crashes mid-broadcast
- Restart OBS. If you have configured a separate restart mechanism, confirm it opened the intended OBS profile and scene collection and did not start an unintended duplicate instance.
- Check the YouTube event and encoder settings. Confirm the correct scheduled event, service or server, and matching stream key are selected. Do not use a newly reset key in only one place; update the encoder configuration to match YouTube’s current event settings.
- Start streaming again. Use OBS’s Start Streaming control or a previously configured launch workflow. OBS lists
--startstreamingas a launch parameter, but that parameter alone is not a complete watchdog or a guarantee that a crash will be recovered. Any external restart automation needs to be configured and tested on your computer and event; see OBS launch parameters. - Verify what viewers receive. Check the encoder preview in Live Control Room, then check the event’s watch page and confirm both audio and video are playing. YouTube recommends previewing the encoder feed and verifying event accessibility before and during a broadcast in its live tips.
- Check the connection if OBS appears healthy but the stream is not reaching viewers. Review outbound connectivity and the encoder dashboard. YouTube distinguishes encoder health from internet upload problems in its streaming advice.
- Check the local recording separately. Confirm whether the archive exists and is growing. A recording protects the saved copy, not live continuity, and viewers may have experienced a gap while OBS was down.
Which recovery approach fits which failure?
The right approach depends on whether the failure is a temporary connection drop or the OBS application itself, whether the YouTube event can be reused, and how much host-level automation you can maintain. For a separate backup encoder, YouTube recommends explicitly testing failover rather than assuming it will work; see its live streaming tips.
| Approach | What it addresses | What it does not do by itself |
|---|---|---|
| OBS automatic reconnect | Connection interruption while OBS is still running. | It does not relaunch OBS after an application crash. |
| Restart OBS manually | Lets you reopen the app and resume the feed using the intended event and key. | It requires an operator to act; viewers may see a gap. |
| External restart automation | Can relaunch OBS, potentially with streaming enabled if configured. | OBS launch parameters do not provide a complete watchdog, validate the event, or guarantee recovery. Test the setup yourself. |
| Backup encoder / failover | A separately prepared encoder can provide another feed path if configured for the event. | Failover is not automatic merely because a backup exists; test it before relying on it. |
| Local recording | Preserves a local archive when recording is functioning. | It does not continue the YouTube live stream while OBS is down. |
Check YouTube eligibility and rights before looping episodes
YouTube’s live-streaming start guidance says a channel must be verified, have no live-streaming restrictions in the prior 90 days, and meet the stated minimum age of 16. Requirements and Live Control Room interfaces can change, so confirm eligibility when setting up the event; see YouTube’s live streaming start guidance.
