What’s actually slowing this PC down?

To keep a prerecorded concert live on YouTube around the clock, you must send the video continuously through an encoder or hosted streaming service. YouTube provides the live ingest and broadcast page; it does not repeatedly play an uploaded file for you. The reliable sequence is: verify live-stream access, create a broadcast, copy its stream key, configure a looping encoder, start the feed, confirm the preview, and select Go Live. The encoder, power and network connection must then remain available, unless you use a hosted cloud service.
What a 24/7 concert replay actually requires
A YouTube Live broadcast can stay open while an encoder continues sending video. Google’s broadcast-and-stream model supports a pattern in which “you don’t stop streaming video since the 24/7 broadcast continues.” The uploaded concert file is therefore the source for an outgoing stream, not a file that YouTube loops by itself.

Your encoder can be software on a computer, a dedicated hardware appliance or a hosted service. It reads one file or a playlist, sends audio and video to YouTube’s ingest endpoint, and repeats the programme when it reaches the end. If the encoder stops, the broadcast may show an interruption or end even though the scheduled event still exists.

Before you stream: channel, programme and rights checks
Confirm live-stream eligibility
- Open YouTube Studio and complete channel verification.
- Enable live streaming and wait for any activation period shown by YouTube.
- Check that the channel has no current live-stream restriction that would block the event.
- Use a channel account with access to the concert footage and the authority to grant the stream key to your encoder.
Create the broadcast only after the channel can go live. A scheduled event gives you a preview and a place to configure title, description, visibility, latency and moderation before the encoder connects.

Clear every element of the replay
A concert replay can contain more rights-protected material than the camera recording itself. Document permission for:
- the filmed performance and any performers’ or venue releases;
- the sound recordings and musical compositions;
- artwork, photographs, logos, sponsor graphics and stage screens;
- opening acts, audience footage and third-party clips inserted into the edit.
YouTube says all live streams are scanned for matches to third-party content. If a match remains, the stream can be temporarily interrupted or terminated. A licence does not automatically prevent an interruption: ask the rights owner or distributor to add the channel to its Content ID allowlist. YouTube for Artists also recommends coordinating with a label or distributor before using copyright-protected music in a live stream.
Keep written licences, territory limits, dates, allowed platforms and allowlist confirmations together. A replay that is cleared for on-demand viewing may still have separate live, territory or monetisation conditions. Repetitive prerecorded programming can also receive additional scrutiny under YouTube’s reused-content and monetisation rules; make the channel’s ownership, permissions and editorial purpose clear rather than presenting someone else’s recording as original programming.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Set up the YouTube broadcast and stream key
- In YouTube Studio, choose Create and then Go live.
- Select Stream or create a scheduled live event. Enter the title, description, thumbnail, visibility and chat settings.
- Copy the stream URL or server address and the stream key shown in the Live Control Room. Treat the key like a password; anyone who has it can send video to the event.
- Choose the latency that matches the programme. Normal latency is usually safer for a long unattended show; lower latency reduces delay but leaves less margin for network variation.
- Leave the Live Control Room open so you can inspect preview, stream health, copyright notices and chat once the encoder connects.
Loop one concert file with a software encoder
A local software encoder is the least expensive way to start, but it makes your computer, operating-system updates, power and upload connection part of the broadcast. Disable sleep and automatic restarts during the show, and use a wired connection where possible.
Recommended video settings
| Programme | Resolution and frame rate | Video bitrate starting point | Keyframe interval | Audio |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| HD | 1280×720 at 30 or 60 fps | 2.5–6 Mbps, depending on motion | 2 seconds | AAC, 128–192 kbps, 48 kHz |
| Full HD | 1920×1080 at 30 fps | 4.5–8 Mbps | 2 seconds | AAC, 128–192 kbps, 48 kHz |
| Full HD high frame rate | 1920×1080 at 60 fps | 6–9 Mbps | 2 seconds | AAC, 160–320 kbps, 48 kHz |
| 4K | 3840×2160 at 30 or 60 fps | Use the current YouTube range for the selected frame rate; 4K60 commonly needs roughly 20–51 Mbps | 2 seconds | AAC, 160–320 kbps, 48 kHz |
Use H.264 video, progressive scanning, a constant bitrate mode and a two-second keyframe interval unless your encoder’s current YouTube profile specifies otherwise. Match the output frame rate to the source to avoid unnecessary motion conversion. Your sustained upload capacity should exceed the selected bitrate with headroom for overhead and other household traffic; a connection that merely reaches the nominal number will be fragile.

FFmpeg example for a single file
Install a current FFmpeg build, then replace the input filename, ingest address and key with the values from your Live Control Room:
ffmpeg -re -stream_loop -1 -i concert.mp4 -c:v libx264 -preset medium -b:v 6000k -maxrate 6000k -bufsize 12000k -pix_fmt yuv420p -r 30 -g 60 -keyint_min 60 -sc_threshold 0 -c:a aac -b:a 192k -ar 48000 -f flv "YOUTUBE_INGEST_URL/STREAM_KEY"
-re reads the file at normal playback speed, while -stream_loop -1 repeats it indefinitely. The example encodes 1080p-style output at 30 fps; change bitrate, frame rate and the keyframe values to match your source and the current YouTube limits. If your source is already compliant, copying streams can reduce CPU use, but a transcode is safer when codecs, frame rate or audio format are uncertain.
Loop a playlist of concert files
Create a text file with one entry per file:
file '/media/set-one.mp4'
file '/media/set-two.mp4'
file '/media encore.mp4'
Then run:
ffmpeg -re -stream_loop -1 -f concat -safe 0 -i playlist.txt -c:v libx264 -preset medium -b:v 6000k -maxrate 6000k -bufsize 12000k -pix_fmt yuv420p -r 30 -g 60 -keyint_min 60 -sc_threshold 0 -c:a aac -b:a 192k -ar 48000 -f flv "YOUTUBE_INGEST_URL/STREAM_KEY"
Test every file from beginning to end before making the broadcast public. A different resolution, variable frame rate, damaged timestamp or missing audio track can make a playlist stop at the transition even when each file plays normally by itself.
Start, verify and supervise the live stream
- Start the encoder and wait for YouTube’s preview to appear.
- Check that the preview has both picture and sound, the expected aspect ratio and no dropped-frame warning.
- Select Go Live in the Live Control Room. Starting the encoder alone does not necessarily make the event public.
- Watch stream health during the first complete loop and at least one file transition.
- Moderate chat, review copyright notifications and record the time of any encoder or ingest error.
- Schedule maintenance windows for updates or source-file changes. Do not stop the process casually: an accidental disconnect can end the broadcast.
For a truly unattended installation, put the computer on a UPS, prevent sleep, use automatic process supervision and keep a second copy of the playlist. A local restart script can relaunch FFmpeg after a crash, but it cannot repair a failed router, power outage or blocked stream key.
Choosing the way to run a 24/7 replay
These approaches solve different failure points. StreamNeo is the first option to consider when you want the channel live without leaving a computer running: it is always on from the cloud, accepts any uploaded quality up to 4K 60fps at one flat price per slot, and gives the first day free.

| Rank and method | Upfront cost | Looping without manual intervention | Power and network resilience | Monitoring and restart | Codecs and resolution | Redundancy | Storage and rights workflow |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1. StreamNeo hosted cloud | No encoder hardware; plan is per slot | Built for continuous looping and playlists | Your home computer and connection can be off | Automatic recovery if YouTube drops the stream; StreamNeo team support | Whatever you upload, up to 4K 60fps, with no re-encode or quality tiers | Cloud operation; confirm any additional redundancy needs with support | 10 GB per slot, pooled across active slots; you still need rights and any required allowlisting |
| 2. Local software encoder | Lowest equipment cost if you already own a computer | Possible with a loop flag or playlist, but depends on process stability | Fails with local power, operating-system, router or upload outages | You must monitor and configure your own restart process | Depends on CPU/GPU, software and source settings | Requires a second encoder and independent connection | Files stay under your control; rights checks remain your responsibility |
| 3. Dedicated hardware encoder | Higher one-time equipment cost | Only if the exact model supports file playback and looping | Can live in an always-on rack or studio, but still needs power and network | May offer watchdogs; verify restart behaviour before purchase | Verify codecs, inputs, outputs, resolutions and YouTube compatibility for the model | Can be paired with a second unit or ingest path | Usually depends on attached storage; rights workflow is unchanged |
| 4. Other hosted encoder | Recurring provider cost; terms vary | Check that file looping and playlists are explicit features | Usually removes your local power burden, but provider outages remain possible | Confirm alerting, restart policy and support response | Check accepted codecs, frame rates and maximum resolution | Ask whether primary and backup ingest are available | Verify storage limits, retention and rights-handling terms directly |
For a hardware purchase, verify file playback, loop behaviour, codec support, output resolution, keyframe controls and YouTube compatibility for the exact model. Treat provider uptime, pricing, storage allowances and affiliate claims as unverified until the provider states them in current documentation.
Advanced reliability: primary and backup ingest
Organizations that cannot tolerate one encoder failure can design two independent paths. Google’s HLS documentation describes primary and backup ingestion URLs. A practical design uses separate encoders, power sources and network routes, then tests a controlled failover before the concert launches. Redundancy does not remove rights enforcement: both paths must send the same cleared programme and use valid credentials.
Common problems and fixes
The preview never appears
- Wrong key or server address: copy both values again from the selected broadcast and remove stray spaces.
- Encoder is not running: confirm the process is active and that the firewall allows outbound streaming.
- Unsupported output: switch to H.264 video, AAC audio, progressive scanning and a standard frame rate.
The stream starts, then stops at the end of the concert
The file was not looped, the playlist reached an error, or the process exited on a timestamp problem. Test -stream_loop -1, validate every playlist path and inspect the encoder log around the transition.
Video is smooth but audio is missing or out of sync
Check that every source has a valid audio track, use a consistent 48 kHz output and transcode mixed sources to one audio format. A playlist with incompatible sample rates can fail only when the second file begins.
YouTube reports dropped frames
Reduce bitrate or output resolution, stop competing uploads, use wired Ethernet and check sustained upload capacity rather than a short speed-test peak. If the local connection remains unstable, move the encoder to a hosted environment.

The stream is interrupted for copyright
Do not repeatedly reconnect with the same uncleared material. Identify the matched recording, composition, artwork or clip; obtain the necessary permission and ask the rights owner to allowlist the channel where appropriate. A licence that covers on-demand use may not cover live use or the territory selected for the broadcast.
The broadcast ended after a restart
A computer reboot, power loss or encoder crash can leave the YouTube event without an ingest signal. Use process supervision and a UPS for local operation, or choose a hosted service with automatic recovery. Schedule maintenance instead of allowing an accidental disconnect to terminate the event.
Viewers see a black screen during a file change
Mixed resolutions, variable frame rates or a damaged source can create a transition gap. Normalize the playlist to one resolution, frame rate, pixel format and audio sample rate before streaming, then test the complete sequence privately.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Costs, storage and operating trade-offs
A local encoder appears cheap when you already own suitable hardware, but include electricity, UPS capacity, replacement drives, internet service and the time required to monitor failures. Dedicated hardware shifts the cost toward a one-time purchase and maintenance. Hosted encoding shifts it to a recurring fee and makes storage, retention, support and failover terms important.
For a cloud option, StreamNeo uses one flat price per slot for any uploaded quality up to 4K 60fps. Each slot includes one always-on YouTube stream, 10 GB of storage pooled across your active slots, 24/7 looping and playlists, automatic recovery if YouTube drops the stream and support from the StreamNeo team. The product is YouTube-only and plays uploaded videos; it does not originate a camera feed.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can a scheduled YouTube broadcast remain open while the same concert repeats?
Yes. The broadcast can remain live while an encoder continues sending the looping programme; the encoder must not stop sending data.
Is a dedicated hardware encoder automatically safer than software?
No. It can improve unattended operation, but safety depends on the exact model’s file-playback, looping, codec, restart and YouTube-compatibility features, plus reliable power and network service.
What should I do if a licensed concert is still interrupted?
Ask the rights owner or distributor to allowlist the channel in Content ID, then confirm that the licence covers live streaming, the selected territory and the full replay.
