You can keep a YouTube stream running while your own computer is off by storing the media on a rented server and running a playback or encoder process there. The server sends the feed to YouTube Live over RTMPS. Paytm is a separate checkout question: confirm directly with the hosting provider that it accepts your specific Paytm payment method and supports recurring renewals before you rent. No particular host or Paytm-compatible server plan is established here.
How the server-to-YouTube setup works
The rented server takes over the always-on role normally handled by a computer running streaming software. For prerecorded video, the basic path is:

This is an implementation pattern, not a promise that a particular rented server will remain online continuously. YouTube’s encoder guidance recommends testing and monitoring stream health; actual continuity also depends on the server, network route, process recovery, maintenance, and provider terms. Choose a server for the workload, not just the word “streaming”
Relaying an already encoded video
If your setup plays a compatible, already encoded file and sends it onward without re-encoding, the server is mainly responsible for reading the media and sustaining the outbound connection. The file must remain accessible to the process, and the host must permit continuous outbound streaming.
Encoding or transcoding on the server
If the process changes resolution, frame rate, codec, or bitrate, it must encode or transcode as well as send the stream. That adds compute demand, especially for higher resolutions or frame rates. The YouTube guidance cited here does not define universal CPU, memory, or monthly transfer minimums for a VPS, so ask the host about the exact workload rather than assuming a standard plan will handle it.

Questions to ask the hosting provider
- Is continuous outbound video streaming allowed under the plan’s acceptable-use terms?
- What sustained outbound bitrate can the service support, and what monthly transfer allowance is included?
- What are the charges for exceeding the transfer allowance?
- Does the plan restart services after a process failure or server reboot, and how are planned maintenance and restarts handled?
- Which service region and network route will be used for the connection to YouTube?
- Can the provider confirm that your intended playback or encoding workload is permitted?
Set up the YouTube stream and secure ingest
- Prepare the stream in YouTube Live Control Room. Create or schedule the live stream in the account, then retrieve the stream’s server URL and stream key from the live-stream setup. YouTube’s encoder documentation describes sending an encoder feed to YouTube Live. YouTube: stream settings
- Use RTMPS when configuring the connection. YouTube recommends RTMPS, which sends RTMP over SSL/TLS. Use the exact endpoint and path supplied for the stream; do not substitute an address from an unrelated setup. For API-based encoder connections, YouTube’s documentation specifies port 443 and SNI hostname handling. YouTube Live RTMPS ingest documentation
- Keep the stream key private. Treat it like a password: do not publish it, place it in screenshots, or leave it exposed in logs or shared scripts. Restrict access to the server configuration that contains it. If you believe it has been exposed, replace or reset it in YouTube Live Control Room and update the server configuration.
- Configure the server-side playback or encoder process. Point it to the media source and the RTMPS endpoint, then supply the stream key using the method supported by the software. Ensure the media file is available after reboots and that the process is configured to start again when the server starts.
- Start with a profile the connection can sustain. YouTube’s H.264 recommendations include 5 Mbps for 1080p30 and 14 Mbps for 1080p60. Its encoder settings recommend CBR and a 2-second keyframe interval, with the interval not exceeding 4 seconds. These are YouTube recommendations, not a guarantee of server capacity; select a bitrate your provider can sustain continuously and account for audio and protocol overhead when estimating transfer. - Run a representative test before relying on the stream. Test with the actual type of audio and motion you plan to broadcast. Check YouTube’s stream health and messages in Live Control Room while the server process runs, and correct any warnings before leaving it unattended. YouTube explicitly advises: “Make sure to test before you start your live stream.” YouTube’s encoder settings and recommendations
Estimate outbound transfer before you commit
A continuous stream sends data for as long as it runs. Estimate transfer using the actual output bitrate and the provider’s billing rules; do not assume an allowance included with a VPS plan is unlimited. The video bitrate is not the entire traffic figure: include audio and connection overhead, and check whether the host measures transfer in decimal or binary units and how it treats overages.

A real stream’s total will be higher than its video-only estimate once audio and overhead are included. Compare that estimate with the provider’s stated allowance and obtain the overage price in writing before purchase.

Keep the stream recoverable and observable
A server process can stop even if the server itself remains online. Treat restart and reconnect behavior as part of the setup, and test those recovery paths instead of assuming that a rented server guarantees uninterrupted streaming.
- Configure the playback or encoder process to restart after a crash and to launch after a server reboot.
- Confirm that the encoder reconnects to YouTube after a dropped connection; verify the behavior in a test rather than relying on an untested default.
- Keep logs available and set up an alert or regular check for a stopped process, a failed connection, or a YouTube stream-health warning.
- Plan for provider maintenance and host restarts. Know how to check the server and restore the stream if automatic recovery does not work.
- Test the complete chain, including media availability, key handling, reconnect, and monitoring, before treating it as an unattended 24/7 setup.
Verify Paytm and recurring billing before renting
Paytm’s official merchant pages describe payment acceptance from a merchant’s perspective and say international payment gateway enablement is subject to approval. That does not establish that a particular hosting company accepts Paytm from customers, that it accepts every Paytm instrument, or that Paytm will work for recurring renewals. Before checkout, ask the host to confirm the exact payment and renewal details for your account country and payment method. A one-time payment option does not by itself show that future recurring charges will be processed the same way.

- What happens if a renewal fails, and how much notice is given before service suspension?
- What are the cancellation, refund, transfer-overage, and acceptable-use terms?
Do not commit on the assumption that Paytm is accepted just because a merchant accepts it in another country or through another payment product. Confirm with the provider before buying.

Check content rights and YouTube rules
Having permission to run a server does not give you rights to the audio or video you broadcast. Confirm that you have the necessary rights for every item in the playlist, including music, recordings, and visuals, and review YouTube’s current policies for live content. Technical documentation about ingest settings does not determine whether a particular prerecorded stream is permitted, eligible for monetization, or compliant with copyright and reused-content rules.
