You can run a 24/7 Tamil songs stream from a spare laptop by looping authorized audio or video in OBS Studio and sending it to YouTube Live. First confirm livestream eligibility and music rights, then test the laptop, upload connection, sound, and recovery plan. A laptop setup can be interrupted by power, internet, software, channel-access, or copyright problems, so continuous operation is something to plan for—not a guarantee.
Before you set up the stream
Make sure the channel can livestream
Check livestream eligibility in YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room. YouTube requires a verified channel with no live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days. For a first stream, YouTube for Artists advises enabling livestreaming at least 24 hours before you plan to go live. Clear the rights to every song and visual
Do not assume that owning a recording, buying a download, or subscribing to a music service gives you permission to rebroadcast it. Obtain permission for the intended livestream use of each copyrighted song and visual, and coordinate with the relevant rights owner, label, or distributor. YouTube scans live streams for third-party matches and may interrupt or terminate a stream with unresolved matches. Ask the rights owner to add your channel to its Content ID allowlist; a license by itself may not prevent an automated interruption. See YouTube’s guidance on copyright issues with live streams.

Set up looping content in OBS
- Create a scene. In OBS, create a scene for the stream and add the visual you intend to broadcast. Check that it looks right in the preview before adding it to a public broadcast.
- Add a single file. Add a Media Source and select the local audio or video file. Enable Loop in its source settings if you want the file to repeat.
- Build a playlist for multiple files. Add a VLC Video source, choose the files in your playlist, and set Loop Playlist on. Use Shuffle Playlist only if you want tracks in a changing order. OBS notes that VLC must be installed for the VLC Video source to appear. The controls are described in the OBS media sources documentation.
- Test transitions and levels. Play through several song changes. Check that the image does not go blank between files, the audio is audible without distortion, and the playlist behaves as intended. Loop settings control playback; they do not grant music rights or prove that the laptop can run the stream continuously.
Connect OBS to YouTube Live
- Create or schedule the broadcast. In YouTube Studio, open the Live Control Room and create or schedule an encoder broadcast.
- Connect the encoder. If OBS offers YouTube as a service, select it and follow the connection flow. Otherwise, copy the YouTube server URL and stream key into OBS’s stream settings.
- Keep the stream key private. Treat it like a password. Anyone who obtains it may be able to broadcast to your channel; reset it in YouTube Studio if it is exposed.
- Start the encoder and check the preview. Start streaming in OBS, then confirm that YouTube’s Live Control Room receives the picture and sound. Use YouTube’s Go Live control if the selected workflow requires it.
- Review event behavior before scheduling. OBS can create and manage YouTube broadcasts. For a scheduled broadcast, check whether auto-start or auto-stop is enabled; those options affect when the event begins and ends. The OBS YouTube live-streaming guide describes the integration.
Choose settings the laptop and connection can sustain
There is no universal bitrate or laptop specification for this setup: the machine, encoder, cooling, and upload connection are unknown. Use YouTube’s guidance as a starting point, then test the actual laptop and network at the quality you intend to broadcast. YouTube recommends testing upload speed, choosing a suitable quality, and checking stream health during a representative preflight.

Encoder settings to check
- Protocol: YouTube supports RTMP/RTMPS; it recommends RTMPS for encrypted transport.
- Video codec: YouTube’s encoder guidance lists H.264, H.265, and AV1. The available choices depend on the encoder and setup.
- Keyframe interval: Use two seconds as YouTube recommends, and do not exceed four seconds.
- Rate control: Use CBR, or constant bitrate.
- Audio: YouTube lists AAC or MP3.
- Frame rate: YouTube’s guidance supports up to 60 fps; use a rate the laptop can encode and the connection can sustain.
Use bitrate figures as platform guidance, not a laptop guarantee
YouTube’s current H.264 recommendations include 3 Mbps for 720p at 30 fps and 5 Mbps for 1080p at 30 fps, with other recommended ranges for different resolutions and frame rates. These are platform settings, not proof that an unspecified laptop or internet plan can hold them. A still image or minimally moving visual may need less video data than a scene with motion, but test the actual content rather than treating a particular bitrate as a universal minimum. Check YouTube’s live encoder settings for the full, current table.
For a music-focused stream, start at a modest resolution and frame rate that the machine and connection appear able to sustain, then inspect the YouTube preview and stream-health status during a representative test. If the connection cannot reliably upload at the selected bitrate, reduce quality and test again.

Run a preflight before leaving it unattended
- Confirm the intended scene and playlist are active, and let the content play through song transitions.
- Check the YouTube preview for both picture and audio, and review any stream-health warnings.
- Test the actual upload connection at the chosen stream settings. If Wi-Fi is unstable, try wired Ethernet if the laptop has a port; if it does not, check that a USB-to-Ethernet adapter is compatible with the laptop before buying one.
- Enable a local recording in OBS and verify that the file is being written and continues to grow. Make sure the laptop has enough available storage for the planned recording.
- Check the laptop’s power arrangement and prevent sleep or other settings from stopping the encoder. Do not assume an untested machine can run indefinitely without interruption.
YouTube’s live-streaming tips emphasize monitoring audio and video and checking local archive files. Keep an eye on the stream during the initial run and after changes to the playlist, OBS, network, or broadcast settings.
Plan for disconnects and recordings
Know what can interrupt the stream
A spare-laptop stream depends on the laptop, its power supply, the encoder process, the internet connection, YouTube channel access, and music rights. Any of these can interrupt the broadcast. If the stream drops, check the Live Control Room’s status and OBS for an encoder or connection error, then restore the connection and confirm that YouTube is receiving the stream again. Whether a scheduled event remains available for reconnection depends on its settings and workflow; do not count on a seamless recovery without testing it.

Separate a live rewind from a saved replay
YouTube’s DVR feature concerns how far viewers can rewind during a live broadcast. Archiving concerns whether a replay is saved after the stream ends. YouTube says DVR may be limited or unavailable for streams longer than 12 hours, and warns that a stream exceeding 12 hours may not be captured at all. If replays matter, retain and check a local recording; consider whether shorter planned broadcasts better fit your archive and recovery needs.
