1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFor a prerecorded Indian music playlist, the most reliable way to ride out a home power cut is either to keep the encoder PC and internet equipment powered by a correctly sized UPS, or to move playback to a cloud service. A router-only UPS will not keep a stream running if the computer encoding it shuts down. For a live performance or camera feed, the source, encoder and network equipment all need power—and a local UPS still cannot fix an ISP outage.
First identify what is producing the stream
The right recovery plan depends on whether the broadcast is prerecorded or live. YouTube receives a feed from an encoder; the encoder needs power, a working internet connection, and the correct server URL and stream key. YouTube recommends testing before broadcasting and monitoring stream health (YouTube encoder setup; encoder troubleshooting).

- Prerecorded playlist on a home computer: The computer and encoder, plus the modem/router carrying the stream, are part of the powered chain.
- Live performance or camera feed: The source itself must remain powered and present, as well as the encoder and network equipment. A UPS cannot replace an unpowered performer or camera source.
- Prerecorded playlist hosted in the cloud: Playback may continue without your home computer serving as the source. This depends on the provider’s service, account, YouTube connection and rights to the content.
Choose a continuity approach
| Setup | What a home power cut affects | Continuity approach | Important limit |
|---|---|---|---|
| Playlist encoded on a home PC | PC/encoder and local networking gear | Back up the encoder and modem/router with a UPS sized for their combined load and the runtime you need; test restart and stream recovery. | Runtime depends on the UPS model and actual load. Local backup does not protect against an ISP or YouTube outage. |
| Playlist played by cloud playout | Home computer is not the playback origin, according to the provider’s description | Consider cloud playout and test the YouTube connection and restart behavior. | Service availability, account access, platform behavior, music rights and cost still matter. |
| Live local source | Source, encoder and network gear | Back up every required local device and test recovery; consider independent backup connectivity where feasible. | A UPS cannot keep an unpowered source or failed ISP online. |
Keep a local stream alive with a UPS
1. Back up the complete chain
Choose a UPS for the streaming PC and router, not just the router. Include the modem or other device that provides the internet connection, plus any locally powered source required for a live broadcast. Check the UPS manufacturer’s guidance for supported equipment and runtime at the combined load. There is no universal backup duration for a streaming PC: runtime varies with equipment draw and the UPS model.

Work out whether the goal is to bridge brief interruptions or to allow time for a controlled shutdown during a longer outage. Compare the combined load with manufacturer runtime information, and check that enough battery-backed outlets are available. Do not assume a UPS’s advertised capacity translates to a particular number of streaming hours at your setup’s load.

3. Test the interruption and restart path
Before relying on the setup, test what happens when mains power is interrupted. Verify that the UPS supplies the intended outlets, the computer and networking devices stay on or restart as expected, and the encoder resumes sending the feed. YouTube recommends testing a stream before going live; a planned test also exposes local boot or configuration problems.
Recover after power returns
Check the components in sequence. A powered router or functioning home network does not by itself prove that the ISP connection is back.
- Check power: Confirm the UPS is on, its battery-backed outlets supplied power, and the computer/encoder and modem/router have restarted.
- Check internet access: Confirm that the modem/router has service and test outbound connectivity from the encoder’s location. If connectivity is still down, contact the ISP.
- Check the encoder: Confirm the streaming software is running and configured to send to YouTube’s server URL with the intended stream key. Check for encoder errors, changed settings or excessive CPU load.
- Check YouTube: Open Live Control Room, verify the stream health indicator, and check the public watch page after the encoder resumes sending.
- Escalate the right failure: If the encoder and local devices are healthy but outbound internet is unavailable, troubleshoot with the ISP. If YouTube reports a connection or start error while internet works, inspect the encoder configuration and stream key.
Use YouTube stream controls correctly
A YouTube stream key is the credential used by the encoder to send a feed. You can reuse a custom stream key; enter YouTube’s server URL and the key in the encoder as directed by YouTube’s stream settings and encoder setup guidance. Keep the key private, since someone with access to it may be able to send a feed to your stream.

YouTube’s Auto-start and Auto-stop options govern stream operation; they do not supply power to a computer, restore broadband, or make a failed encoder restart. Reusing stream settings can also carry these choices forward. Select the workflow that fits your scheduled or managed stream, then test the actual interruption-and-restart path rather than assuming these controls provide power-loss recovery.
Protect music rights and the channel
A stream that reconnects successfully is not necessarily permitted to use the music or visuals in its playlist. Before broadcasting, confirm that you have the rights needed for the recordings, compositions and visuals, including for continuous or repeated playback. YouTube’s copyright and monetization decisions are separate from whether the encoder remains online; do not treat an uninterrupted stream as evidence that its content is authorized. Review the platform’s current guidance and keep documentation of permissions or licenses for the material you use.

Your computer can be off, so a home power cut does not stop the playback source. StreamNeo says it automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. It plays uploaded videos, not a live camera feed, and sends to YouTube only. The first day is free with no card, one free day per account. The monthly price is $9.99 per month. UPI and cards are available in India; card checkout is available worldwide. See StreamNeo for service details, and start your free day.

Local backup
A UPS is a one-time hardware purchase, but the right model depends on your combined load, desired runtime, battery-backed outlet count and equipment compatibility. Compare manufacturer runtime data at a relevant load rather than choosing by a capacity number alone. The sources available for this topic do not establish a specific best model or standard runtime.
Hosted playback
Cloud playout shifts playback away from your home computer, but it does not remove the need to verify the provider’s current capabilities, account access, YouTube connection, applicable costs and content rights. Upstream describes uploaded-content playback from its servers; that is a vendor claim, not an independent performance test. StreamNeo’s plan details and pricing are on its pricing page. You can estimate upload duration with the upload-time calculator, compare recurring cloud and PC costs with the cloud vs PC cost calculator, and review the copyright safety checklist.

Common failure cases
- The stream stops even though the router stays on: The encoder PC may have lost power. Put the computer and the internet equipment on suitable battery-backed outlets.
- The PC is on, but YouTube receives no feed: Check outbound internet first, then encoder status, server URL and stream key.
- The local network works but the stream will not reconnect: Confirm the ISP link has returned; a working LAN does not prove outbound internet is available.
- Equipment powers up but the stream does not: Check whether the encoder launched, whether it resumed sending, and what Live Control Room reports. Test restart behavior before depending on it.
- YouTube reports unhealthy stream status: Inspect encoder output and connection, then follow YouTube’s current troubleshooting guidance. A UPS cannot correct an encoder configuration error or YouTube-side problem.
What a 24/7 archive does—and does not—guarantee
YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. That statement does not guarantee a 24/7 broadcast will be preserved as one complete recording. If having a full recording matters, check YouTube’s current guidance and plan for recording separately from live-stream continuity.
Frequently Asked Questions
Will a UPS keep my stream online through an ISP outage?
No. It can power local equipment, but it cannot restore an unavailable internet connection.
Can I use a local UPS plan for a live camera or performance?
Only if the UPS covers the source as well as the encoder and network equipment; the source must also remain physically available.
Quick Recap
