Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsTo loop a local video in OBS without lowering its 4K 60fps output, add it as a Media Source and enable Loop. Then set OBS to output 3840×2160 at 60 fps and configure a YouTube-supported encoder, CBR, a two-second keyframe interval, and the bitrate recommended for your codec. The file, encoder, computer, and upload connection must all sustain that format; OBS settings cannot restore detail or frames absent from the source.
Set up a looping video in OBS
Add the file and enable Loop
- In your OBS scene, add a Media Source from the Sources list.
- Choose Local File and select the video you want to play.
- Enable Loop in the Media Source properties. OBS will replay the file when playback finishes.
For a playlist, OBS also offers a VLC Video source with a Loop Playlist property. It requires VLC to be installed; match VLC’s architecture to OBS, such as 64-bit VLC with 64-bit OBS. See the OBS Media Sources guide.

Set a true 4K output at 60 fps
- Open Settings → Video.
- Set Base (Canvas) Resolution to 3840×2160.
- Set Output (Scaled) Resolution to 3840×2160.
- Choose 60 under Common FPS Values.
The canvas is the area where you arrange sources; the scaled output resolution is what OBS sends to the stream. If the output is set lower, a 4K file will not go out as 4K. Likewise, outputting at 60 fps does not create genuine frames if the source has fewer. Match the video file’s format to the intended output where possible. OBS explains these settings in its Overview Guide.
Choose an encoder and bitrate for YouTube
YouTube’s live encoder guidance supports RTMP or RTMPS ingest and the H.264, H.265 (HEVC), and AV1 codecs, up to 60 fps. YouTube recommends RTMPS. Use constant bitrate (CBR) and a two-second keyframe interval; do not exceed four seconds. Select an encoder that your system can run reliably and that supports your chosen codec.

YouTube’s 4K/60 bitrate guidance
| Codec | Recommended bitrate at 4K/2160p, 60 fps | Minimum listed by YouTube |
|---|---|---|
| AV1 or H.265 (HEVC) | 35 Mbps | 10 Mbps |
| H.264 | 50 Mbps | 14 Mbps |
These are YouTube’s live-ingest settings, from its encoder guidance accessed in 2026; they are not guarantees that every viewer will receive a 4K/60 rendition. YouTube transcodes live input into multiple output formats. The recommended bitrate is a target for the incoming stream, not a substitute for a stable upload connection or adequate encoding capacity. Check YouTube’s live encoder settings for current guidance.
Pick based on your whole setup
- Codec support: Confirm that your selected OBS encoder supports the codec you plan to send.
- Encoding capacity: Test whether your computer can encode the chosen resolution, frame rate, and bitrate without strain. There is no universal minimum CPU or GPU established for every source and system.
- Upload capacity: The connection must reliably sustain the outgoing stream bitrate. A speed test is useful, but a representative live test is more informative about stability.
Preflight the stream before relying on the loop
- Run a test stream before the event or scheduled broadcast.
- Use video with motion and audio similar to what you intend to stream; a static clip may not reveal the same issues.
- Check YouTube Live Control Room’s preview and stream health, and keep monitoring audio and video quality while live.
- Verify upload capacity and look for encoding or rendering strain in OBS.
YouTube’s live streaming tips recommend testing and monitoring. For 2160p, YouTube says the low-latency option is unavailable, so the stream is set to normal latency; see its encoder settings.

Troubleshoot reduced quality, dropped frames, or stutter
- The stream is not actually 4K: Recheck both OBS output dimensions. The source may be 4K while the scaled output is lower.
- Motion looks less smooth than expected: Confirm the source itself is 60 fps. Setting OBS to 60 fps does not add genuine temporal frames to a lower-frame-rate file.
- Image detail is soft: Check whether the source file is genuinely 4K. Upscaling cannot recover detail that was not recorded.
- Quality falls or the stream becomes unstable: Confirm that the selected codec’s bitrate target matches YouTube’s guidance and that the upload connection can sustain it. Test the actual stream rather than relying only on a nominal speed-test result.
- OBS reports encoding or rendering strain, or output stutters: Test system capacity in advance. If it cannot sustain the workload, OBS recommends reducing output resolution or frame rate. See OBS Encoding Performance Troubleshooting and the OBS Overview Guide.
- The 2160p stream has no low-latency setting: This is expected under YouTube’s guidance for 2160p; it uses normal latency.
Protect the stream’s right to stay live
Technical settings do not establish that you have permission to broadcast the video or its audio. Before looping a recording, confirm that you hold the necessary rights or have permission for the material, and check YouTube’s rules that apply to your channel and content. A successful test of image quality does not resolve copyright or reused-content concerns.

Or let it run in the cloud
If the goal is to keep an uploaded video looping on YouTube without leaving OBS and a computer running at home, StreamNeo is a cloud option: upload the recording, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. It plays uploaded videos rather than broadcasting a camera feed.
