A unit is strong when its role fills a need in your lineup, its abilities suit the encounter, and its faction interactions help rather than hinder the team. Rankings also change by game mode and over time, so treat any tier label as mode- and date-specific—not a timeless verdict.
Start with the job the hero does
A hero’s practical value is about what they contribute to the whole formation, not just damage or durability in isolation. A lineup crowded with damage dealers can lack protection or healing; a team made almost entirely of tanks and healers may survive but struggle to finish fights. Think first about what your current team cannot do reliably.

AFK Global’s role reference describes primary and secondary roles, a more detailed vocabulary than the broad tank, healer, and damage-dealer categories. It dates to October 24, 2019, so use it as a framework rather than a definitive current assignment for every hero. Check the hero’s present in-game description before deciding what role a specific unit performs.

| Role | What it contributes | When it may help |
|---|---|---|
| Tank | Durability for the frontline, often with protection or damage reduction. | Your formation’s frontline falls quickly or needs a unit to absorb pressure. |
| Regen | Restores allied hit points; the role reference also calls this healing. | Your team can deal damage but cannot recover enough to stay in the fight. |
| Control | Disrupts enemies by limiting movement or normal ability use. | Stopping or delaying opposing units matters more than adding another source of damage. |
| Assassin | Uses mobility to target important enemies. | A dangerous backline or other priority target needs to be pressured. |
| Continuous damage | Applies sustained, persistent damage. | You need damage that continues over time rather than a single heavy hit. |
| Burst damage | Can deliver infrequent but potentially lethal damage, especially to fragile targets. | Eliminating a vulnerable enemy quickly is the priority. |
| AoE | Damages multiple targets at once. | Several enemies need to be pressured together. |
| Debuffer | Reduces enemy performance or attributes. | Weakening opponents can create more value for the whole lineup than another direct attacker. |

Judge the fit in your lineup and encounter
When deciding whether a hero is useful, compare the unit with the job your team needs and the demands of the fight. A damage dealer may be powerful on paper but a poor addition if the formation already has enough damage and lacks healing. A control or debuff specialist may be more valuable when disruption helps the rest of the team do its work.
- Identify the problem first: insufficient survival, recovery, control, or damage.
- Check whether the hero’s current in-game abilities actually address that problem.
- Consider how the unit complements the other roles already in the lineup.
- Make the comparison for the encounter or mode you care about, rather than assuming one lineup is best everywhere.
The available sources do not establish current head-to-head rankings for named heroes, investment breakpoints, or account-specific recommendations. Without reliable current information for those details, a universal “best hero” list would overstate what is known.

Use faction matchups as context, not the whole decision
The BlueStacks guide describes this four-faction matchup cycle: Lightbearers are strong against Maulers, Maulers against Wilders, Wilders against Graveborn, and Graveborn against Lightbearers. The cycle can be one factor in a lineup decision, but it is not a complete account of the game’s factions: Lilith Games’ official site says AFK Arena has seven unique factions.
BlueStacks also claims that a team with at least three members of one faction receives passive bonuses such as increased HP and attack, and that five heroes from the same faction receive a 25% increase to both attributes. The page does not show a publication date, and those precise mechanics have not been independently confirmed here as current game rules. Check the current in-game rules before relying on either the bonus threshold or the 25% figure; do not extend the four-faction cycle or those bonus claims to other factions or modes without confirmation.

Read tier lists by mode and date
AFK Global’s tier list, last updated October 3, 2026, separates overall performance from rankings in nine game modes and provides faction and class filters. That structure is a useful reminder that a hero’s rating depends on where it is used. The list is a third-party assessment, not an official Lilith Games ranking, and a tier placement can become outdated as the game changes.
- Choose the game mode or encounter you need to solve.
- Read the corresponding mode-specific ranking rather than relying only on an overall tier.
- Check the update date and the list’s faction or class filters.
- Compare candidates by their role in your planned lineup and relevant faction context, not by tier label alone.
See the AFK Global tier list for its current displayed rankings and update information.

What playing on PC changes—and what it does not
Playing on a PC does not itself determine which hero is strong. It affects how you access the game, and the exact setup depends on the version and platform route. Google Play’s PC listing is specifically for AFK Arena: Companions; it says players can link a Classic Server account and transfer heroes. The listing was updated September 21, 2026, and notes that seamless device sync might not be available for this game.
For the Google Play Games on Windows route shown on that listing, the stated minimum requirements are:
- Windows 10 version 2004
- An SSD with 10 GB of free space
- Intel UHD Graphics 630 or comparable graphics
- A processor with four physical CPU cores
- 8 GB of RAM
- A Windows administrator account
- Hardware virtualization enabled
These are requirements for the listed Google Play Games route, not universal instructions for every PC version, server, or emulator. Check the Google Play Games PC listing for the applicable platform details.
