Your account and the organizer’s access policies still apply, and you may need to wait in a lobby.
Join from the meeting invitation in a browser

Open the original meeting link from the calendar invitation or message in a desktop browser. Microsoft says Teams meetings are not supported in mobile web browsers, so use a computer rather than a phone or tablet browser. Microsoft’s joining guidance explains the available routes.

On the Teams launch page, choose Continue on this browser if that option appears. Do not select an option to open or download the app when the desktop app is the problem. Microsoft Support notes that you don’t need to install the Teams app to join a meeting. Join a meeting without an account in Microsoft Teams.

Complete the identity prompt. Depending on the meeting, you might be able to enter a name as a guest, or you may have to sign in with the work or school account the organizer allows. Some meetings also ask you to verify your email address using a one-time code. Microsoft’s guest-joining instructions describe these possibilities.

On the pre-join screen, select the camera and microphone you want to use. Allow the browser to access those devices if prompted, then select Join now. Device permissions are separate from whether the meeting page itself opens. Microsoft’s device-settings guidance covers browser permissions.

If Teams places you in a lobby, wait for the organizer to admit you. The browser route does not override meeting security, account requirements, or organization policies.

Why the browser prompts can differ
Teams does not use one identical guest flow for every meeting. The next step depends on whether the meeting is for work or school or uses Teams Free, whether you are signed in, and what the organizer’s organization permits. Microsoft publishes separate guidance for joining work or school meetings, joining without an account, and joining Teams Free meetings.

Work or school meeting: You may need to sign in with the correct organization account. A prompt such as Sign in to join this meeting means guest access may not be available for that meeting.

Guest access: If the organizer permits it, you may enter a display name. A meeting can still require email verification or organizer approval.

Teams Free: The joining instructions include browser access and, where available, joining with a meeting ID and passcode. Use the route shown for your invite rather than assuming every meeting has the same options.

If the browser option or access you need is missing
No “Continue on this browser” option
Reopen the invitation link in a desktop browser. Microsoft’s guidance for unauthenticated work or school joining names Edge or Chrome; its broader web troubleshooting and Teams Free guidance also list Safari and Firefox. The options you can use may depend on the meeting and account. See Microsoft’s meeting-join troubleshooting page.

Sign in with the work or school account the meeting requires. If the prompt offers Sign in with a different account to join this meeting, use the account the invitation was sent to if appropriate. An organization can restrict access from other accounts or organizations; ask the organizer or your IT administrator if the intended account is still blocked. Microsoft’s troubleshooting guidance discusses sign-in and access issues.

Email verification or a one-time code
Complete the email check shown in the browser, then return to the meeting flow and select Join now. Some meetings use verification as part of guest access. Microsoft’s instructions for joining without an account describe the guest process.
You are waiting in the lobby
The organizer may need to admit you. Keep the meeting page open and contact the organizer if you have been waiting and they are not available. Microsoft notes that an attendee left in the lobby may eventually be removed, so a long wait is not necessarily a frozen browser. Microsoft’s guest-joining guidance.
Camera or microphone does not work
Check the browser’s site permissions for the Teams page, confirm the intended camera and microphone are selected on the pre-join screen, and refresh the page after changing permissions. An IT administrator may control some device settings. See Microsoft’s device-settings instructions.

The meeting page is slow or will not connect
Check whether other websites load and try again when your connection improves. Microsoft lists low connectivity among possible causes of meeting-join problems. Meeting-join troubleshooting and Microsoft’s reconnection guidance offer additional help.
The invitation has no usable online meeting link
If the invitation does not contain a working online meeting link, the organizer may need to enable the Teams meeting option or send a valid link. A browser cannot join a meeting that has not been set up for online attendance. Microsoft’s join troubleshooting page.
