To join a party game, open the join page or app specified by the host, enter the current room code or PIN, provide any requested player name or identifier, and submit. For Jackbox, use Jackbox.tv and the four-letter code on the host’s game screen. Other games may use a different site, code format, or sign-in step.
Join a Jackbox game
- Ask the host to launch the game and show its lobby, where the current four-letter room code appears.
- On your phone, tablet, or another internet-connected device, open Jackbox.tv.
- Enter the four letters exactly as displayed.
- Type your player name and press Play.
- Keep that browser open on your device to answer prompts. The host’s screen is for viewing the game; each player joins from a browser on their own device.
Jackbox says any device with a web browser can join its games. The host needs to launch an installed Party Pack on one device and should use a second device as the controller; for example, a phone can control a game displayed on a laptop or television-connected system. Guests joining a host’s game do not need to buy the game.
Use the right join method for other games
Do not assume every party game uses Jackbox.tv or a four-letter code. Follow the host’s instructions for that game. For Kahoot, the host can provide a session PIN, a direct join link, or a QR code. To enter a PIN, use kahoot.it or the Kahoot app, then follow any prompts. Kahoot may require an identifier or an additional security step, including 2-Step Join; a link or QR code avoids typing the PIN but does not necessarily bypass those requirements. Its help page was updated September 10, 2026.

These are platform-specific examples, not interchangeable instructions. Jackbox displays its code in the game lobby. A Kahoot PIN is generated for a particular session, so ask the host for a fresh one if the session has restarted.

If the room code does not work
- Check the characters. Re-enter the code carefully, then ask the host to confirm the code currently shown in the lobby. Do not rely on a code from an earlier session.
- Confirm the game is still active. A Kahoot PIN belongs to a specific session. If that session ended or restarted, request the PIN for the active game.
- Try manual entry for a failed Kahoot link or QR code. Open kahoot.it and enter the current PIN instead.
- For a Kahoot disconnection, return through the browser or app. Use the offered rejoin option when available rather than creating a second player entry.
- For Jackbox browser trouble, start with less disruptive checks. Confirm your internet connection and reopen the join page. Jackbox support lists clearing cache, cookies, and history and reopening the browser as troubleshooting steps, but warns not to do that while a game is running if you need to rejoin. Its join and troubleshooting pages show October 28, 2025 updates.
Joining remotely
For remote Jackbox play, you still join at Jackbox.tv with the room code. You also need to see the host’s game screen through whatever screen-sharing setup the host is using. The host should share the code privately before displaying the lobby publicly, because anyone who sees a public code may be able to join.
