Xbox and PlayStation 5 players join a Palworld dedicated server through the in-game Community Servers list. The administrator must publish the dedicated server as a community server with -publiclobby and allow both consoles in CrossplayPlatforms. Once those settings are active, open Palworld’s multiplayer join screen, choose Community Servers, search the administrator’s exact server name, select it, and enter its password if required.

What Xbox and PS5 players need before joining
Palworld’s console connection path is different from the usual direct-address method used by some PC games. The official server instructions say that Xbox and PS5 users should find a dedicated server in the game’s Community Servers browser. A server that is merely running is not necessarily visible there: it must be registered as a community server, and its platform policy must permit the console you use.

- A dedicated server published to the community list. The administrator normally does this by starting the server with
-publiclobby. - Your platform enabled by the server. The server’s
CrossplayPlatformssetting must includeXboxfor Xbox players andPS5for PlayStation 5 players. - The exact server name. Search results depend on the listing name configured by the administrator, so punctuation, spaces and capitalization are worth checking.
- The password, if the server uses one. A password-protected listing can still appear in the browser, but you cannot enter it without the administrator’s current password.
- Compatible game and server versions. If the client and dedicated server are on incompatible current versions, listing or connection problems can persist even when the publication settings are correct.
You do not need to operate a VPS or own a dedicated machine to join someone else’s server. Those are hosting choices for the administrator. Your requirement as a player is an accessible community listing and any password the owner has configured.
How Community Servers connect consoles to a dedicated server
A community server is a dedicated Palworld server registered in the in-game server list. The list is the bridge between the server process and console players: the administrator publishes the server, Palworld’s browser displays its name, and a player selects the listing to connect.

For console access, the important distinction is between a private or otherwise undiscoverable dedicated process and a community-listed server. The official guidance specifically says that Xbox and PS5 access requires deployment as a community server. In practice, that means the administrator must use the public-lobby startup option and leave the relevant platforms enabled in the configuration.
The default platform value in the current configuration reference is (Steam,Xbox,PS5,Mac). Administrators may narrow this value. Removing either console from the list prevents players on that platform from joining, even if the server name and password are correct.

- Start Palworld on the Xbox console. Wait for the title screen to load fully.
- Choose the multiplayer join option. Use the title-screen option that opens the list of multiplayer sessions rather than creating a new local world.
- Open Community Servers. This is the browser used for dedicated servers that have been published for discovery.
- Search the exact server name. Enter the name supplied by the administrator. If the owner uses unusual punctuation or spacing, copy it as closely as the Xbox keyboard permits.
- Select the matching listing. Check that the name is the expected one before attempting to connect, particularly when several servers use similar names.
- Enter the password when prompted. If the administrator configured
ServerPassword, type that password exactly and submit it. - Wait for the connection and world load. A first connection can take longer than moving between local menus because the console is contacting the dedicated server and loading its world.
If the server does not appear, do not switch immediately to random direct-address instructions. The official console path is the Community Servers list. First ask the administrator to confirm that the server is running as a public lobby, that Xbox is allowed, and that the listing name is correct.
Join a Palworld server on PlayStation 5
- Launch Palworld on PS5. Use the current installed game version.
- Select the multiplayer join option from the title screen. This opens Palworld’s available multiplayer destinations.
- Choose Community Servers. Dedicated servers intended for console discovery should be listed here.
- Search for the administrator’s exact server name. Search terms that are too broad can return many similarly named servers, while a spelling error can hide the intended one.
- Open the correct listing. Verify the name with the administrator if more than one result looks similar.
- Provide the password if the server requests one. Passwords are controlled by the administrator through the server configuration.
- Allow the world to load. Stay on the connection screen until Palworld completes the join process.
The documented PS5 route is the same Community Servers workflow used on Xbox. The difference is only the console interface and controller keyboard; the server-side publication and platform settings are identical.
What the server administrator must configure
Players cannot repair an unpublished or platform-restricted server from their consoles. Ask the administrator to verify these settings on the machine running the dedicated server.

Publish the server with -publiclobby
The official argument reference defines -publiclobby as setting up the server as a community server. The administrator adds it to the dedicated-server launch command and then restarts the process.
- Windows example:
PalServer.exe -publiclobby - Linux example:
./PalServer.sh -publiclobby
The command must be used by the process that actually hosts the world. Adding the option to an unused shortcut, an old script or a different server installation will not publish the active instance. After changing the startup command, stop and restart the dedicated server before checking the Community Servers list.
Allow Xbox and PS5 in CrossplayPlatforms
The configuration reference describes CrossplayPlatforms as the platforms allowed to connect. Its stated default is (Steam,Xbox,PS5,Mac). If an administrator has replaced the default with a restricted value, both console identifiers must be present for a server intended to accept players from both consoles.

Configuration syntax and file location can vary with the dedicated-server installation, so the administrator should use the current Palworld server configuration reference for the exact file and formatting used by that installation. The critical value for this connection problem is the inclusion of the platform names themselves.
Set a searchable name and optional password
ServerName controls the name players search for in Community Servers. A clear, distinctive name reduces the chance that a console player selects the wrong listing. Avoid changing the name while players are trying to connect; give everyone the final spelling first.

ServerPassword controls restricted access. Leave the password information with trusted players through a private channel rather than posting it publicly. When the password changes, existing players need the new value for their next connection attempt.
Xbox and PS5 cross-play: what is and is not required
Xbox and PS5 can use the same dedicated server when the server is published as a community server and both platforms are allowed by CrossplayPlatforms. The server overview identifies Steam, Xbox/Microsoft Store Windows PC, macOS and PS5 as supported cross-play platforms, while noting that Xbox and PS5 access requires a community server.
Cross-play does not mean every server is automatically visible to every platform. Administrators can restrict the platform list, and a server launched without -publiclobby will not provide the community-list route that consoles require. Treat cross-play as a server policy that must be enabled, not as an automatic property of every dedicated instance.
The host does not have to be playing for a player to join. A dedicated server can continue running on a machine supplied by the owner or through a VPS service. Whether it remains available while the owner is offline depends on that server remaining powered, connected and healthy; the owner’s personal console session is not the mechanism that makes a dedicated server persistent.
Troubleshoot a server that does not appear
Check problems in this order. The sequence starts with conditions that make a listing impossible and ends with player-side details that commonly cause a failed search.

1. Confirm that the dedicated server is running
Ask the administrator to verify that the intended Palworld server process is active and hosting the expected world. A stopped process cannot publish a listing, and a restart may be necessary after maintenance or a crash.
2. Confirm the -publiclobby launch argument
The administrator should inspect the actual startup command or service definition, not just a desktop shortcut that may no longer be used. The Windows form is PalServer.exe -publiclobby; the Linux form is ./PalServer.sh -publiclobby. Restart after correcting the command, then allow time for the server to register in the community browser.
3. Check CrossplayPlatforms
For an Xbox player, the configured list must contain Xbox. For a PS5 player, it must contain PS5. If both types of player are expected, both entries are required. A server can be online and correctly named yet invisible or inaccessible to a platform that has been removed from this list.
4. Search the exact ServerName
Confirm every character with the administrator: spaces, punctuation, numbers and capitalization. Search from the Community Servers screen rather than a different multiplayer category. If the name was recently changed, ask which final value is currently active and restart the server if the configuration change has not taken effect.
5. Verify current versions
Make sure the Xbox or PS5 installation and the dedicated server are on compatible current versions. An update applied to one side but not the other can prevent a successful connection even after the listing becomes visible. Have the administrator check the server’s update status and have the player install any pending console update before trying again.

6. Recheck the password
A wrong password produces a different failure from a missing listing. Confirm whether ServerPassword is set, request the current value from the administrator, and enter it exactly. If the password was changed recently, discard an old saved value and use the new one.

After any server-side correction, restart the dedicated server and return to Community Servers on the console. Search the complete name again rather than relying on an old result. If the listing remains absent after the publication, platform and version checks, the administrator should review the server’s current logs and configuration using the official Palworld server documentation.

The table describes connection methods, not a ranking of hosting services. Hosting cost, hardware capacity and provider terms are separate decisions for the server owner and are not needed for a player to join.
Administrator handoff checklist
Before inviting Xbox or PS5 players, the administrator can send this concise checklist:
- Start the active Windows or Linux dedicated-server process with
-publiclobby. - Set
CrossplayPlatformsto a value containingXboxandPS5; keep other platforms only if they should be allowed. - Choose a distinctive
ServerNameand send its exact spelling to players. - Set
ServerPasswordonly when restricted access is wanted, and distribute it privately. - Restart the server after changing startup arguments or configuration.
- Wait for the listing to register, then ask players to search in Community Servers.
- When a player cannot connect, check publication, platform entries, name, version and password in that order.
Practical expectations for players
- The server name is the key identifier. Console players should obtain the final name directly from the administrator instead of guessing from a partial title.
- Visibility and permission are separate. A listing may be visible while a missing platform entry or incorrect password still prevents entry.
- Server persistence belongs to the dedicated host. A VPS or owner-supplied machine can keep the world available when the owner is offline, provided the server remains running.
- Settings changes require a restart. Editing a startup argument or server configuration without restarting the active process does not reliably apply the change.
- Use the current game build on both sides. Version mismatches are a later-stage failure after discovery settings have been verified.
For both Xbox and PS5, the reliable path is therefore consistent: open Multiplayer, choose Community Servers, search the exact configured name, and enter the password if one exists. Every server-side requirement—public-lobby publication, platform allowance, name and password—supports that single console workflow.
