What “FaceTime Apple to Samsung” actually means
FaceTime is not installed on Samsung phones. Cross-platform calling uses FaceTime on the Apple device and a temporary web session on the Samsung device. The Apple participant creates a meeting link; the Samsung participant opens that link in a supported browser. There is no Android FaceTime download, account setup, or outgoing-call button.

The Apple host controls the meeting. A Samsung guest can request entry, but the host must approve that request before audio or video begins. This arrangement works for one-to-one calls and FaceTime calls with multiple participants, provided the Apple device creates the link and remains the host.

Apple specifies the latest Chrome or Edge and a strong Wi-Fi or cellular connection for web participants. A current browser matters because FaceTime web relies on browser camera, microphone, and real-time communication features rather than a dedicated Android application.

How the Apple user creates and sends the link
On an iPhone
- Open the FaceTime app.
- Tap New Call.
- Choose Create Link.
- Select a sharing method, such as Messages, Mail, or another app, and send the link to the Samsung user.
Apple’s iPhone instructions are documented in Create a link to a FaceTime call on iPhone. The recipient can receive the URL in a text message, email, or chat; the link itself is what the Samsung user opens.
On an iPad or iPod touch
On an iPad or iPod touch running iOS 15 or later, open FaceTime, tap New Call, choose Create Link, and share the generated URL. The wording and placement can vary slightly by software release, but the host must use FaceTime’s link-creation command rather than trying to dial the Samsung number directly.
On a Mac
A Mac running macOS Monterey or later can also create a FaceTime link. Open FaceTime, choose the option to create a link, then copy or share it with the Samsung participant. The Mac remains the host even though the guest joins from an Android browser.

Send the entire link without adding punctuation or line breaks that could make it difficult to open. If a messaging app turns the URL into a tappable link, the Samsung user can tap it directly. Otherwise, copy the complete address into Chrome or Edge.

How to join from a Samsung phone
- Open the invitation. Tap the FaceTime link in the message, email, or chat. If it does not open correctly, copy it and paste it into the address bar of the latest Chrome or Microsoft Edge.
- Enter an identifying name. FaceTime web asks for a name before entry. Use a name the Apple host will recognize; an Apple ID is not required for this browser guest flow.
- Continue to the preview. Tap Continue if that button appears. You should see a camera preview or a permission request.
- Allow camera and microphone access. Choose Allow when Chrome or Edge asks to use the phone’s camera and microphone. Without these permissions, you may enter with no video, no sound, or both.
- Request entry. Tap Join. This sends an admission request to the Apple host; it does not connect you immediately.
- Wait for approval. Keep the browser page open while the host admits you. If the host has not started the call or has not noticed the request, you remain on the waiting screen.
- Use the call controls. Once admitted, use the on-screen controls to mute or unmute, switch the camera off or on, change camera views when available, or leave the call.

What the Samsung participant can and cannot do
Available in the browser
- Join a FaceTime meeting from a shared link.
- Send an admission request to the Apple host.
- Talk with camera and microphone after permissions are granted.
- Mute the microphone, turn video off or on, switch camera views when the interface offers that control, and leave the call.
Not available
- There is no native FaceTime app for Samsung or a way to place an outgoing FaceTime call from Chrome.
- A Samsung user cannot create the FaceTime invitation. The Apple participant must generate the link.
- Apple states that “SharePlay and screen sharing aren’t available in FaceTime on the web.” This means a Samsung guest cannot use FaceTime web for watching synchronized content through SharePlay or for presenting the phone screen.
If the purpose of the call is a demonstration, presentation, remote troubleshooting, or watching content together, discuss that limitation before choosing FaceTime. A regular conversation may work well, while a screen-sharing session requires another service.
Troubleshooting a failed FaceTime connection
The link will not open
- Confirm that the URL is complete and has not been split across two lines by the messaging app.
- Paste it into the latest Chrome or Edge instead of an embedded browser inside a social or messaging app.
- Ask the Apple host to create a fresh link and send it again if the original invitation is damaged or the meeting has ended.
The browser says camera or microphone access is blocked
When the permission prompt appears, choose Allow. If you previously selected Block, open the browser’s site-permission controls for the FaceTime page and change camera and microphone to Allow, then reload the page. Check Android’s system privacy controls as well: a browser cannot use a camera or microphone that Android has disabled globally.

The Apple host cannot see the request
Joining is a two-stage process. After tapping Join, remain on the waiting screen and contact the host through the original message channel. The host needs to open FaceTime, see the waiting participant, and admit them. If the host has left the call or the link is no longer active, create a new link.

Video or audio is unstable
- Move to a stronger Wi-Fi signal or a location with better mobile-data coverage.
- Close other applications that are using the camera, microphone, or significant network bandwidth.
- Keep Chrome or Edge updated and reload the FaceTime page if the preview freezes.
- Use headphones if the other participant hears an echo.
- Turn video off temporarily when the connection cannot sustain both audio and video.
Apple’s documented requirement is a strong Wi-Fi or cellular connection; a weak connection can cause delays even when the link and permissions are correct.
The Samsung phone has no usable camera or microphone
You may still be able to join with video or audio disabled, depending on the browser and call state, but a normal two-way video call requires working hardware and permission for the browser to use it. Check whether another application is already occupying the camera or microphone, close that application, and retry.
FaceTime web limitations to plan around
No screen sharing or SharePlay
FaceTime web is designed for joining the conversation, not for reproducing every feature available in Apple’s native apps. Apple explicitly excludes SharePlay and screen sharing on the web. If someone needs to show a phone screen, collaborate on an app, or watch synchronized media, choose a meeting service that supports those functions on both devices.

The Apple device remains the organizer
The link does not turn the Samsung participant into a FaceTime caller. The Apple user controls creation of the meeting and admission of guests. If the Apple user wants the Samsung participant to call first, FaceTime is the wrong workflow; use a service where either person can create a meeting.

Browser, not app, means fewer persistent settings
Because the Samsung side runs in Chrome or Edge, permissions, camera selection, and session state are tied to the browser page. Closing the tab, clearing site data, or changing browser permissions can require the guest to repeat the name and permission steps on the next invitation.
Mainland China availability caveat
Apple says FaceTime links are unsupported in mainland China, and creating a link is unsupported on iPhone models purchased in mainland China. Availability can therefore depend on both the participant’s location and the market in which the iPhone was purchased. People in those circumstances should confirm which calling options are locally available rather than assuming the link method will work.

Google Meet is separate from FaceTime and can be used when both people need a service that supports Android participation without an Apple-created FaceTime link. Google’s Android instructions also say that Samsung Phone app users can open a contact, select Meet, and start a video call when that option is available.

Choose FaceTime when an Apple contact has already sent a link and the goal is a straightforward conversation. Choose Meet when the Samsung participant needs to initiate the meeting, when the group needs a more neutral platform, or when FaceTime web’s feature limits rule it out.

A quick decision checklist
- Use FaceTime: an Apple user is available to create the link; the Samsung phone has current Chrome or Edge; everyone has reliable internet; and the call does not require SharePlay or screen sharing.
- Use another service: the Samsung user must start the call; the Apple host cannot create a link; participants are in a region where FaceTime links are unsupported; or the meeting needs screen sharing.
- Before sending the invitation: update the browser, check camera and microphone permissions, and tell the Samsung guest that the host must approve entry.

Can I call an iPhone from my Samsung using FaceTime?
Not directly. An iPhone user must create a FaceTime link and send it to you; you then join in Chrome or Edge.
Do I need an Apple ID on Samsung?
The documented browser flow asks for a name and host admission. It does not require installing FaceTime or signing in with an Apple ID.
Can the Samsung user join from a tablet?
The supplied Apple and Google instructions specifically describe Android browser participation and Samsung-phone use. A tablet may work if it runs a current supported browser with camera and microphone access, but the documented Samsung path is the phone browser flow.
Why am I stuck after tapping Join?
Tapping Join sends a request; the Apple host must still admit you. Stay on the page and ask the host to approve the waiting participant.
