To find AI agents connected to your SaaS apps, combine identity-provider records, OAuth-grant visibility, SaaS app inventories, agent-platform registries, and internal asset records. None of these sources is a complete inventory on its own. Reconcile their findings with application owners, then record each agent’s identity, permissions, connected tools, owner, and review status in a shared registry.
Why a single inventory source is not enough
An agent may appear as an application registration or service principal, an OAuth-connected app, a managed SaaS integration, or a record synchronized from an agent platform. Each view covers a different part of the environment. A connected-platform registry may show supported agents but not every OAuth grant; an identity directory may show permissions and sign-ins without establishing that an identity acts autonomously. Record which sources and tenants you checked, along with the collection date and known coverage gaps.
Vendor documentation describes its own product coverage, not independent proof that an inventory is complete. For example, Microsoft Defender for Cloud Apps documents SaaS and OAuth app inventory views across Microsoft 365, Google Workspace, and Salesforce, with indicators that differ by provider. Okta documents browser-captured OAuth grants and managed-app discovery for Salesforce Agentforce. These are useful, distinct views—not universal scans of every agent. Microsoft Defender for Cloud Apps application inventory and Okta’s Salesforce Agentforce managed-app documentation describe their respective scopes.
Build the inventory in a repeatable sequence
- Define scope and accountability. List the identity tenants, SaaS services, agent platforms, and business units to include. Assign an accountable governance owner, and decide where the shared registry lives. For a small environment, a manually maintained record can be sufficient if it has an owner and a review process. Microsoft recommends aligning accountability with existing cloud governance and keeping one organizational inventory. Microsoft agent identity governance guidance
- Export identity and consent data. In the identity tenant, review application registrations and service principals. Capture user and admin consent, delegated and application permissions, owners, credentials, role assignments, sign-in activity, audit history, redirect URIs, and known downstream dependencies. Microsoft recommends Microsoft Graph’s
/applicationsand/servicePrincipalsendpoints for retrieving many of these details. Preserve the export date so readers of the inventory can tell how current it is. Microsoft’s service-principal discovery guidance - Flag candidates without treating clues as proof. Start with explicit agent tags where available. For untagged service principals, investigate combinations of clues such as Bot Framework or AI-service API permissions, bot-related redirect URIs, frequent non-interactive sign-ins, token audiences, links to AI resource groups, or names containing “agent,” “bot,” “copilot,” or “assistant.” Microsoft warns that these heuristics can produce false positives: a backend service that calls Azure OpenAI, for example, is not necessarily an autonomous agent. As Microsoft puts it in this context, “No single signal is definitive.” Microsoft’s explanation of heuristic discovery
- Reconcile candidates with business records. Match identities to the CMDB, asset inventory, and application portfolio. Ask application owners or developers to classify unresolved entries and surface custom agents that generic names or permissions may have missed. Keep the result of the owner check, including “not an agent” classifications, rather than silently dropping candidates. Microsoft recommends owner attestation after tag scans, heuristic checks, and CMDB reconciliation. Microsoft’s service-principal discovery guidance
- Check SaaS and OAuth views. Review your available SaaS security inventory for connected applications, publishers, permissions, data accessed, and usage indicators. Check OAuth grants separately where the provider exposes them. Record which providers and signals were actually available in your tenant; do not infer that an absent record means no agent exists. Microsoft Defender for Cloud Apps and Okta document different provider and feature coverage. Microsoft Defender for Cloud Apps application inventory Okta Salesforce Agentforce discovery
- Map each agent’s tools and reachable systems. Record every connector or capability through which the agent can reach data or take action, including connectors, MCP servers, skills, and plugins where applicable. For each, identify the system, publisher or approver, permission scope, and whether it can read, send, modify, or delete data. “Connected to CRM” is not enough to assess exposure: a read-only connector and one that can change records have different consequences. Microsoft’s guidance puts it plainly: “An agent is only as capable, and only as risky, as the tools it can use.” Microsoft agent-tool guidance
- Add supported platform registries and validate synchronization. Microsoft Agent 365’s connected-platform documentation lists Amazon Bedrock, Google Vertex AI, Salesforce Agentforce, Databricks Genie, Anthropic Claude Managed Agents, Oracle Generative AI Agents, and Snowflake Cortex. Synchronization support and observability vary by platform. Follow the platform’s documented setup, then ask its administrator to confirm expected agents and metadata arrived and to investigate synchronization, permission, or credential errors. Microsoft Agent 365 connected platforms
- Review and remediate over time. Track last activity, permission and ownership changes, platform-sync status, and the date each source was last checked. Review unused or highly privileged identities with their owners; where appropriate, reduce permission scope, register an approved agent, or revoke access using the relevant provider controls. Okta documents registration or access revocation as possible follow-up actions in its workflow. Okta Salesforce Agentforce managed-app workflow

- Identity and location: agent name, stable identity or application ID, tenant, source platform, and production status.
- Ownership and purpose: accountable owner, owning team, business purpose, and owner-attestation result.
- Access: connected SaaS apps, OAuth grants, consent type, API scopes, roles, and accessible data.
- Tools and actions: connectors, MCP servers, skills, plugins, their publishers or approvers, and whether each can read, send, modify, or delete.
- History and freshness: last sign-in or activity, creation and permission-change history, inventory collection date, and platform synchronization status.
- Governance: discovery source and confidence, approval and review status, remediation status, known blind spots, connector coverage, and telemetry or synchronization errors.

Platform support and features can change. In particular, verify current synchronization and observability for each connected platform with its administrator; a successful connection does not by itself establish that all expected agents or metadata are visible.
