To install WordPress with a one-click setup, sign in to your hosting control panel, open its WordPress installer (such as Softaculous, WP Toolkit, Plesk, Installatron, or Fantastico), select your domain, complete the administrator and database fields, and submit the installation. For WordPress at the root of your domain, leave the installer’s directory field empty; entering a folder creates a subdirectory installation such as example.com/wp.

“One-click” describes an automated hosting workflow rather than literally one mouse click. The installer creates or configures the database, writes the WordPress files, and presents your login details after you confirm the settings. The exact labels vary by host, but the decisions below are the same.

Hosting companies commonly expose an automatic installer in their control panel. WordPress.org lists APS/Plesk, Fantastico, Installatron, and Softaculous among the tools hosts may provide. Instead of downloading files and configuring a database yourself, you enter the site parameters in a form and let the host’s installer perform those operations.
The normal sequence is:
- Sign in to the hosting account or control panel.
- Open the WordPress installer supplied by the host.
- Choose the domain and, if applicable, a directory.
- Enter administrator, language, and database settings.
- Submit the form and wait for the installer to finish.
WordPress.org’s documentation describes this approach as an option that is “typically available from hosting companies.” The official automated-installation guide is available at WordPress.org’s automated-installation documentation.

Check these prerequisites first
A one-click button is useful only when the hosting account is prepared for it. Before opening the installer, confirm the following:
- WordPress support: The host should state that it supports WordPress or meet the requirements described by WordPress.org. The WordPress installation FAQ explains that any host meeting WordPress requirements can be used and that many hosts provide automatic installation: WordPress.org installation FAQ.
- An active hosting account: You need access to the control panel where the installer is exposed. A domain may be registered separately, but it must be available to select in the hosting account.
- The correct installer: Look for an item named Softaculous Apps Installer, WP Toolkit, WordPress Manager, Plesk Applications, Installatron, or Fantastico. The label depends on the panel and the host.
- A destination: Decide whether WordPress belongs at the root of the domain or in a folder. This choice determines the public URL.
- Administrator details: Prepare an administrator email address and a strong, unique password. Avoid using a predictable username or reusing a password from another service.
- Permission to create a database: Most automated installers handle this for you, but some panels display database fields or require you to select an existing database.
- A language choice: The installer may ask which language WordPress should use for its initial administration interface.
Do not start an installation in a document root that already contains another WordPress site. Separate installations should have separate document roots; sharing one can cause files, updates, or rewrite rules to affect the wrong site.

cPanel
In cPanel, the application may appear under a software or applications section. Some hosts provide Softaculous, while others expose WP Toolkit or another WordPress manager. If you cannot find a WordPress icon, use the panel’s search box or ask the host which installer is enabled for your account.
Plesk
Plesk commonly presents WordPress through its application catalog or WP Toolkit. The catalog and Toolkit can show different fields from Softaculous, so follow the labels displayed for your subscription rather than assuming every option is identical.
Other panels
Installatron and Fantastico use the same basic model: select WordPress, choose the domain and path, provide administrator information, and confirm. A host can also provide its own branded WordPress manager. The name of the button is less important than checking the destination and credentials before submitting.

Softaculous: complete step-by-step installation
Softaculous publishes a specific sequence for installing WordPress. The following steps match that documented workflow; your host may place the controls in a slightly different location.

- Log in to the hosting control panel. Use the panel URL and credentials supplied by your host.
- Open Softaculous. Select Softaculous Apps Installer, then choose WordPress from the available applications.
- Start the installation. Click Install. Softaculous opens a form rather than installing immediately, giving you a chance to review the target and account details.
- Choose the protocol and domain when shown. Select the domain on which the site should run. If the panel offers both HTTP and HTTPS, choose the option that matches the certificate and hosting configuration you intend to use; do not select a domain you do not control.
- Set the directory. Use the root-domain rule in the next section. A directory value changes the public URL.
- Complete database fields. Softaculous may create a new database automatically or display database-name and database-user fields. Keep the generated values unless you have a specific reason to use an existing database, and record any values the panel asks you to preserve.
- Enter administrator information. Provide the username, password, and email address for the first WordPress administrator. Use a long, unique password and an inbox you can access for password-recovery messages.
- Select the language. Choose the language for the initial WordPress installation.
- Review every field. Check the domain, directory, administrator email, and database selection. A typo here can create a working site in the wrong place.
- Click Install again. The installer copies WordPress, configures the database, and reports success or an error. Leave the browser window open until the process completes.

Install WordPress at the root of your domain
Suppose the desired site address is https://example.com. In Softaculous, leave the In Directory field blank. The installer then places WordPress in the domain’s document root, so visitors reach the site at the domain itself.
If you enter wp in that field, the result is a subdirectory installation at https://example.com/wp. Entering blog produces https://example.com/blog. The directory is not merely an organizational label: it becomes part of the public path and determines which files the web server serves for that URL.
When a subdirectory is appropriate
- Use a folder when the domain’s root already hosts another application.
- Use a folder when WordPress is intentionally one section of a larger site.
- Use the root only when WordPress should be the primary site for that domain.
Before confirming, read the installer’s summary. A surprisingly different URL after installation is usually caused by a non-empty directory field or by selecting the wrong domain from a multi-domain account.

What happens after the installer finishes
A successful installer normally displays the site address and an administration address. Open the public address in a new tab, then use the administration link and the administrator credentials you entered. If the page loads, verify that the domain and path are exactly what you intended before adding content.
Complete these immediate checks:
- Sign in to the WordPress dashboard and confirm that the administrator email is correct.
- Visit the public home page and one administrative screen to confirm that both paths work.
- Record the hosting account, control-panel, and WordPress administrator recovery details in a password manager.
- Check whether the host offers backups, updates, staging, or restore controls and learn where those controls are before you need them.
- Remove any temporary installation notes or credentials that the installer may have displayed in a shared workspace.
WordPress.org says installation takes less than five minutes under most circumstances. That is a general statement from its FAQ, not a guaranteed completion time: account provisioning, DNS, database creation, or a host-side error can take longer.
If your host has no one-click installer
You can still install WordPress. The WordPress Developer Handbook explains that a host may already provide a database or an automated setup; otherwise you supply the database information and either create wp-config.php yourself or let the installation script attempt to create it. Follow the host’s database instructions and the current handbook at How to install WordPress.
Manual-installation outline
- Confirm the host’s WordPress support and document root. Ask where files for the chosen domain must be placed and whether a database is pre-created.
- Obtain the WordPress package from the official WordPress project. Use the host’s supported file-transfer method to place the files in the selected document root or subdirectory.
- Prepare database details. Record the database name, database user, password, and server name exactly as supplied by the host. Some hosts use a prefixed name, so copy it character for character.
- Configure
wp-config.php. Enter the database values in that file, or allow the browser-based installer to try to create it when the host permits that operation. - Open the site URL. WordPress starts its installation screen when it cannot find a completed configuration. Enter the site and administrator information, then submit.
- Test both the public site and the dashboard. If either fails, compare the URL and database values with the host’s records before changing files.
Manual installation has more points at which a typo can stop progress, but it gives you direct control when the hosting panel does not provide an application installer.
Common failures and how to recover
The installer is missing
First search the entire control panel for “WordPress,” “applications,” “Softaculous,” or “Toolkit.” If no tool appears, the host may not license one for your plan. Ask support whether an automated installer is available, or use the manual process described above. Do not install a second copy into an unrelated directory simply because it is the first location you can access.

The site opens in the wrong folder
Check the domain selected in the installer and the directory value. A folder name creates a subdirectory URL; an empty directory targets the domain root. If the files were placed correctly but the wrong domain was selected, contact the host before moving files, because domains in one account can have different document roots.
“Error establishing a database connection” appears
cPanel identifies a database-name or database-password mismatch in wp-config.php as a cause of this error. Compare each value with the database created by the host, including any account prefix, capitalization, and server name. If you changed the database password in the panel, update the matching value in wp-config.php. The cPanel guidance is available at cPanel’s WordPress installation documentation.
Another WordPress site is affected
Stop making changes and identify the document root for each domain. cPanel warns that multiple WordPress installations should not share one document root. Sharing it can cause one installation’s files or configuration to be loaded by another. Restore the original document-root assignment or move the new installation into its own correctly assigned location with the host’s help.
The installer reports a permissions or file error
Read the complete error message and note the path it names. The path often reveals whether the selected directory exists, is writable, or belongs to a different domain. Do not repeatedly click Install, because each attempt may create another database or partial set of files. Remove only the failed installation using the panel’s documented cleanup option, or ask support to identify what was created.
The installation appears complete but the dashboard will not open
Confirm that you are using the administration URL for the same domain and directory chosen during setup. Recheck the administrator email and password, and use the password-recovery link if necessary. If the public page works but every administrative request fails, ask the host whether its security rules or account permissions are blocking the dashboard.
How to compare hosting options for one-click WordPress
The presence of a button is not the only useful differentiator. Compare the operational details that determine whether installation and later maintenance will be predictable.

Ask for the answers in writing if the plan page is ambiguous. A host can advertise “WordPress-ready” while exposing no one-click tool on a particular plan, or can include an installer but restrict it to selected domains.
Security and housekeeping after a one-click setup
Automation reduces setup work but does not secure the finished site by itself. Use a unique administrator password, keep the administrator email accessible, and learn how the host’s backup and restore functions operate. Apply WordPress, theme, and plugin updates through the dashboard or the host’s supported management tool, and take a backup before a major change when the host provides that capability.
Limit administrator access to people who need it. Create lower-privilege accounts for routine publishing rather than sharing the first administrator login. If you abandon an installation, remove it through the host’s documented process so its database and files are not left exposed.
Decision checklist
Use this short checklist immediately before submitting any one-click installation:
- The selected domain is the one that should display WordPress.
- The directory is blank for a root install, or contains the intentional folder name for a subdirectory site.
- No existing WordPress installation uses the same document root.
- The administrator email is accessible and the password is unique.
- The language is correct.
- The database will be created or selected as intended.
- You know where the installer will display the site and dashboard URLs.
Once these items match your plan, the automated workflow is usually the quickest route. If the installer is unavailable or cannot create the required database, switch to the manual procedure rather than forcing repeated automated attempts.
