Usually, you cannot install Windows 11 on an Android phone like a normal app or PC operating-system upgrade. Windows 11 on Arm has been made to boot on a limited set of phones through community projects, but success depends on the exact model, regional variant, firmware, bootloader, device-specific UEFI and drivers. The Windows 11 Arm64 ISO is only the operating-system media; it is not a universal phone installer.
What “install Windows 11 on a phone” really means
On a supported phone, the process replaces or supplements the factory Android boot chain with a project-specific boot environment, then deploys Windows 11 for Arm64 with drivers adapted to that handset. This is substantially different from installing an ordinary Android app, unlocking a generic PC installer, or flashing an image made for a similar-looking phone.

Microsoft provides the Arm64 ISO and general guidance for making bootable media, but it does not publish a universal phone UEFI, partition map or driver bundle. Those pieces come from device projects and vary by model. Microsoft’s download page notes that manufacturer drivers may be required: Download Windows 11 Arm64. Its technical guidance also explains that missing drivers can stop a device from booting or leave input unusable: Windows 11 Arm ISO files.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteTherefore, the first question is not “Where is the ISO?” It is “Does a current, exact-model project support my phone, firmware and intended installation method?” A shared Snapdragon or other processor family does not establish compatibility.

Check compatibility before downloading anything
Record the phone’s complete identity
- Exact commercial model and internal model number.
- Regional or carrier variant.
- SoC/chipset and memory configuration.
- Current Android build, firmware revision and bootloader version.
- Whether the bootloader can be unlocked and whether an official unlock procedure exists.
Write these details down from the phone’s settings, bootloader screen and the manufacturer’s documentation. Do not rely on a retail name alone; two regional variants sold under one name can use different firmware, partitions or peripherals.
Use the exact project support list
Renegade documents support by device and SoC, while LumiaWOA maintains a separate process for supported Lumia models. Start with the project’s current device page and then open the guide for the precise variant. Renegade’s FAQ is at https://renegade-project.tech/en/faq; LumiaWOA’s guides are at https://woa-project.github.io/LumiaWOA/guides/.
A guide that names a similar phone, an earlier firmware release or only Windows 10 is not proof that it applies to your handset or to Windows 11. Check the project’s release notes immediately before flashing because supported devices, downloads, firmware requirements and working features can change.
Confirm what “supported” includes
| Question | Why it matters | What to verify |
|---|---|---|
| Which exact model and firmware? | Boot images and drivers are hardware- and version-specific. | Model number, region, firmware and bootloader versions match the guide. |
| Clean install or dual boot? | The partitioning and data consequences differ. | The instructions explicitly describe your intended method. |
| Is UEFI supplied? | Windows needs a compatible boot environment before the ISO can start. | A project-provided UEFI or boot image for your device. |
| Are drivers complete? | A desktop can appear while touch, storage, networking or other hardware fails. | Published status for the functions you need. |
| How is recovery performed? | A failed flash may require a factory restore that erases data. | Exact recovery files, tools and an accessible procedure. |
| When was the guide updated? | Old firmware instructions may no longer match current releases. | Recent release notes and version requirements. |
Separate processor compatibility from phone compatibility
Two phones can use the same Snapdragon family and still expose different display panels, touch controllers, storage layouts, radios, sensors and security settings. Windows needs drivers for those individual components, not just a driver for the processor. A project that supports one handset therefore does not automatically support another model from the same manufacturer or generation.
Read support notes for the complete model identifier and hardware revision. If a page lists only a board name, codename or SoC, find the project’s mapping between that name and your retail variant. Carrier editions and regional models can have different firmware even when the outside casing and processor are identical.
Also distinguish “boots” from “works.” Some ports can reach a Windows desktop while lacking touch, wireless networking, audio, camera access, cellular functions, charging controls or sleep. Decide which of those functions you need before treating a port as suitable.
Prepare a safe recovery plan
Back up photos, messages, authentication codes and any files that are not already stored elsewhere. Preserve the stock partitions or factory images that the project tells you to keep. A cloud backup alone may not preserve an unlock key, modem data or locally stored application files.

Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Read the project’s recovery instructions before making changes. Renegade’s troubleshooting material describes an EDL factory-image route and warns that recovery erases all data: Renegade troubleshooting. Make sure you can obtain the exact factory package, enter the required recovery mode and use the required cable or computer before you unlock the bootloader.
Recovery is not a guarantee that every failure is easily reversible. If the guide requires a particular partition backup, download it and verify that it is complete before proceeding. Keep the original Android device available for account verification and two-factor authentication.
Write down the steps for returning to Android while the phone still works. Note which partitions must be restored, which tool enters the recovery mode and whether the process requires a full factory image. Do not assume that an image for another region or storage configuration is interchangeable. If the project does not explain how to recover your exact variant, that is a reason to postpone the installation.
Understand the firmware and driver risk
Windows on Arm depends on platform drivers for the phone’s display, touch controller, storage, USB, wireless radios, audio, sensors and power management. Microsoft warns that older Snapdragon generations may need drivers injected into the installation media and that unsuitable or missing drivers can prevent boot or leave input nonfunctional. The same Microsoft guidance explains that the Windows Media Creation Tool does not currently create Arm64 bootable media; you may need another utility and the device-specific driver files.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Never flash a UEFI, vendor partition or driver package simply because it was built for a phone with the same chipset. A project’s boot image can encode assumptions about panel hardware, memory layout, security state and firmware. The Surface Duo material from WOA-Project is explicit that its dual-boot images target particular firmware and bootloader versions; using another version can brick the phone or make touch unusable. Treat that warning as specific to the published Surface Duo images, while applying the same version discipline to every device: mu_andromeda_platforms releases.
Keep the driver package associated with the release you are installing. Mixing a newer UEFI with older drivers, or injecting files from a different handset, can produce a system that starts but cannot accept touch input or access storage. When a project publishes version pairs, use the pair together rather than updating one component independently.
Get the Windows 11 Arm64 media
- Download the Windows 11 Arm64 ISO from Microsoft’s official page: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows11arm64.
- Read the Arm ISO instructions at https://learn.microsoft.com/en-gb/windows/arm/iso before creating media.
- Obtain the exact UEFI, boot image, partition files and drivers named by your phone project. The Microsoft ISO does not supply these phone-specific components.
- Use the project’s stated deployment utility or manual procedure. Do not substitute a PC-oriented Windows installer workflow unless the project explicitly tells you to.
- Verify checksums or file integrity when the project publishes them, and keep a second copy of the stock recovery files.
A USB flash drive can be useful when a project’s instructions require creating Arm bootable media, but it cannot provide phone compatibility, UEFI or drivers. Microsoft’s documentation describes bootable-media creation and the possible need for injected manufacturer drivers; follow the project’s media layout exactly.
The Arm64 ISO is operating-system media, not a complete image for your handset. Some projects ask for a prepared image, a deployment utility or a premade FFU instead of having you apply the ISO directly. Use whichever format the device guide specifies. Do not assume that an ISO written to a USB drive will boot a phone without the project’s boot chain and partition preparation.
How supported installation approaches differ
Lumia-specific deployment
For supported Lumia phones, LumiaWOA places bootloader unlocking first. Its guide then offers a Windows on Arm deployment route through WoaDeployer, including a dual-boot option, or a manual premade FFU method. Those steps are Lumia-specific. They should not be copied to an Android phone, even if both devices use Arm hardware.
Android projects such as Renegade-supported devices
For Android models covered by Renegade or another device project, follow only that project’s exact instructions for firmware, UEFI, drivers, partitioning and deployment. Microsoft supplies the operating-system media, not the phone recipe. If the project does not publish a guide for your exact model and firmware, stop rather than adapting instructions from a related device.
Clean installation versus dual boot
| Method | What changes | Main concern |
|---|---|---|
| Clean install | Android or existing partitions may be replaced according to the guide. | Greater data-loss exposure and a more demanding recovery path. |
| Dual boot | The project preserves an Android path and adds a Windows path. | Requires the project’s exact partition layout, boot menu and firmware support. |
| Manual image/FFU deployment | You apply premade device images using project-specified tools. | Image and firmware versions must match exactly. |
Do not infer that a dual-boot procedure can be converted into a clean install, or that a clean-install guide preserves Android. The partition instructions determine the outcome.
How to compare two supported phones or projects
If more than one handset appears to be supported, compare practical evidence rather than processor names. First compare the exact model and firmware combinations documented by each project. Then check whether each guide offers a clean install, dual boot or only a prepared image. Review how complete the UEFI and driver packages are, which hardware functions are marked working, and how difficult recovery would be if flashing fails.
Recommended Free Tools
Prefer instructions with recent release notes, explicit version requirements and a recovery procedure for the same variant. A project with fewer supported models may still be the safer choice if its documentation identifies the firmware, preserves a known Android path and lists working touch, networking and power functions. A project page that has not been updated for the firmware on your phone should be treated as unverified, even if older users report success.
A device-specific installation sequence
There is no safe universal flash recipe, but supported projects generally require the following order. The exact commands, tools and files must come from your project’s guide.

- Install the project’s UEFI or boot image. Use only the file named for your exact model and revision; do not improvise a similarly named image.
- Apply the project’s partition and driver procedure. Follow its stated order for deployment, driver injection and any Android-preservation steps.
- Deploy the Arm64 Windows image. Use the project’s utility or manual method with the Microsoft ISO or prepared image it specifies.
- Boot and test essential hardware. Check touch, display, storage, USB, Wi-Fi or cellular networking, audio, camera, sensors, battery charging and sleep before treating the installation as usable.
- Stop if a required function fails. Return to the project’s troubleshooting path rather than flashing another device’s driver or firmware.
During the first boot, allow the project’s documented setup to finish before changing partitions or replacing drivers. Record which components work and which do not, including whether the phone can return to Android. That record helps you decide whether to continue testing or restore the stock image instead of making additional unplanned changes.

The phone does not boot
Possible causes include an unsupported model, incorrect UEFI, incompatible firmware or missing storage and platform drivers. Recheck the exact release requirements and use the project’s documented recovery method. Do not repeatedly reflash random images.
Windows reaches the desktop but touch does not work
This usually indicates that the input driver or firmware match is wrong or unavailable. Microsoft specifically warns that driver problems can leave input unusable. Connect a supported external input only if the project says that is safe, then install the exact published driver or restore the stock image.
Only some hardware works
A successful boot does not establish support for cellular radio, camera, audio, sensors, battery management or sleep. Check the project’s current hardware-status notes for your exact phone. Experimental ports commonly expose only a subset of phone functions.
The device is bricked or cannot enter Android
Use the recovery instructions prepared before installation. For devices using an EDL factory-image process, expect a full data wipe as described in Renegade’s troubleshooting guidance. If you cannot identify the exact factory package or recovery mode for your variant, stop and seek device-specific project help rather than using a package from another region.
The installer starts but cannot see storage or input
That symptom points to missing or mismatched platform drivers rather than proof that the ISO is defective. Check whether the project requires driver injection for your Snapdragon generation and whether the files match the stated firmware. Rebuild the media only with the project’s documented files; do not add drivers from a similar phone.

Windows updates, firmware releases and project revisions can alter hardware support. Before applying a major change, confirm that the project still lists your UEFI and driver versions as compatible and that you can return to the previous working image. Keep the recovery package available instead of deleting it after the first successful boot.
What you may need besides the ISO
- A compatible computer and cable: the project may require them for unlocking, deployment or recovery.
- Device-specific UEFI or boot image: this provides the boot path that a normal Windows installer assumes on a PC.
- Driver files or an injection method: Microsoft notes that some Arm devices need manufacturer drivers added to the media.
- Partition or factory-image backups: these are needed to restore Android if the experiment fails.
- Optional USB media: a flash drive can hold bootable Arm media when the project calls for it, but it does not make an unsupported phone compatible.
The exact tools and files are project choices. Do not buy or download a generic package until the guide for your phone identifies it.
How to judge whether it is usable
Define the goal before you flash. A demonstration that reaches the Windows desktop is different from a phone that can make calls, maintain standby battery life and recover reliably.
- Desktop experiment: Partial hardware support may be acceptable if you have a verified recovery route.
- Development or driver testing: Confirm USB, serial or debugging support and the project’s intended test workflow.
- Daily phone: Require documented touch, display, networking or telephony, audio, camera, charging, battery and sleep support for your exact model; do not assume any of these from a successful boot.
Performance, battery life, thermal behavior and complete daily-driver reliability are not established by the existence of an Arm64 port. Treat project status reports as version- and device-specific, not as a guarantee for every phone in the same processor family.

Final preflight checklist
- Exact model, region, chipset, firmware and bootloader recorded.
- Current project page confirms that exact variant and Windows 11/Arm64 method.
- UEFI, drivers and deployment files match the phone’s firmware and hardware revision.
- Clean-install versus dual-boot consequences understood.
- Personal data backed up and stock partitions or factory images preserved.
- Recovery mode, files, tools and likely data wipe understood before unlocking.
- Arm64 ISO downloaded from Microsoft and media method follows the project’s instructions.
- Required hardware functions checked in current project reports.
- You accept that an experimental system may not replace Android as a dependable phone.
Bottom line
Install Windows 11 on a phone only when a maintained project supports your exact model, variant and firmware and provides matching UEFI, drivers, deployment instructions and recovery files. The ISO is necessary but not sufficient. If any one of those device-specific pieces is missing, the safest answer is to keep the stock system and wait for documented support rather than risk a wipe, unusable touch screen or unrecoverable brick.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I install Windows 11 on any Android phone?
No. Windows 11 Arm has been made to boot on a limited set of phones through community projects. Support depends on the exact model, variant, firmware, bootloader, UEFI and drivers; a shared processor family is not enough.
Is the Windows 11 Arm64 ISO all I need?
No. The ISO supplies the operating-system media. You also need a device-specific boot environment, partition procedure and drivers. Microsoft warns that missing manufacturer drivers can prevent boot or leave input unusable.
Can I use instructions for a similar phone?
Do not. A similar model may have different firmware, panel, touch controller, partitions or security settings. Use only files and commands published for your exact model and revision.
Will Windows replace Android?
That depends on the project. Some guides describe a clean installation, while others provide dual boot or a prepared image. Read the partition instructions; never assume a dual-boot guide preserves Android or that a clean install does.
What happens if the flash fails?
Recovery may require restoring a factory image through a device-specific mode such as EDL. Renegade’s troubleshooting guidance warns that this process erases all data, so prepare backups and recovery files before unlocking or flashing.
If Windows reaches the desktop, does that mean the phone works?
No. Touch, networking, cellular service, camera, audio, sensors, charging, battery management and sleep may still be missing. Check the project’s current hardware-status notes for your exact device.
Can the Windows Media Creation Tool make Arm64 phone media?
Microsoft’s Arm ISO guidance says the Media Creation Tool does not currently create Arm64 bootable media. Follow the project’s specified utility and media layout instead.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
Is a USB flash drive required?
Only if the project’s procedure calls for bootable USB media. A USB drive can store installation media, but it cannot supply phone compatibility, UEFI or drivers.
Should I use a newer firmware than the guide lists?
Not without explicit project confirmation. Published images may target particular firmware and bootloader versions. Mismatches can brick a phone or make functions such as touch unusable.
