Yes. If your Steam account already owns the original Total War: SHOGUN 2, you can still install and play it from the Steam Library. The 28 September 2026 change removed standalone purchasing, not existing licenses. New Steam buyers should purchase Total War: SHOGUN 2 – Complete Edition, which includes the original game and associated DLC except the Blood Pack.
What the 2026 delisting actually changed
SEGA’s FAQ, updated 12 October 2026, distinguishes between purchasing the standalone game and continuing to use a game already attached to a Steam account. From 28 September 2026 at 17:00 BST, 16:00 UTC, 09:00 PDT, 00:00 CST on 29 September, or 01:00 JST on 29 September, Total War: SHOGUN 2 stopped being available as a standalone Steam purchase.

That is a delisting, not a license revocation. SEGA says the original game “will still exist on Steam and will continue to be playable as normal,” and that “for existing owners, nothing will change.” The store page may still be visible, but the standalone purchase option has been folded into Complete Edition.
| Question | Answer |
|---|---|
| I owned the original on Steam before the change. Can I reinstall it? | Yes. It should remain in the owning account’s Library with an Install button. |
| Can I buy the old standalone app now? | No. Standalone purchasing ended at the date and times listed above. |
| Does Steam Complete Edition include the original? | Yes. SEGA says the Steam purchase includes the original game and associated DLC, except the Blood Pack. |
| Does a Complete Edition purchase from another listed store automatically add the original Steam app? | No entitlement to the original Steam app should be assumed for Epic Games Store, Microsoft Store, or GOG purchases. |
Choose the correct installation route
Your route depends on whether the original is already licensed to your Steam account. Check that before changing stores or buying anything.

- Choose from 9 different clans and compete online and offline for the undisputed supremacy of Medieval Japan
- Play through the Main Campaign in single player or invite a friend online to play competitively or cooperatively in Campaign Multiplayer mode
- Developed according to Sun Tzu's principles in the Art of War, the Artificial Intelligence constantly analyzes its situation
- Build and govern cities, recruit and train troops, conduct diplomacy and manage your agents
- Improved land and naval battle gameplay, now with the ability to combine forces and attacks
If your Steam account already owns the original
Use the existing Steam Library entry. Do not buy Complete Edition merely to recover a game you already own. Existing Steam owners keep the original license, and SEGA says missing legacy DLC was granted to those owners at no additional cost.
If you never owned the original
On Steam, buy Total War: SHOGUN 2 – Complete Edition. That purchase includes the original game and its associated DLC, with one stated exception: the Blood Pack. After the purchase is attached to your account, look for the original Total War: SHOGUN 2 Library entry and install that entry when you want the legacy game and its existing mod environment.
If you are considering another storefront
SEGA’s FAQ says purchases from Epic Games Store, Microsoft Store, and GOG include Complete Edition only. Those purchases should not be treated as a way to obtain the original Steam application, and they do not transfer a Steam license.

Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Install the original game from an existing Steam license
- Sign in to the owning Steam account. The account must be the one that purchased or previously activated the original game. Being signed in to a different account is the most basic explanation for a missing Library item.
- Open Library. Use the Library search field and enter
Total War: SHOGUN 2. Search by the game title rather than relying on a recently played list, because an old installation may no longer appear in that list. - Select the original game entry. Choose the entry named Total War: SHOGUN 2, not an unrelated store page or a separate Complete Edition presentation. The original entry should remain associated with the account under SEGA’s post-delisting policy.
- Choose Install. Steam will present its normal installation destination and download controls. Select the library location you want, confirm the installation, and allow the client to finish downloading the game.
- Launch from the same Library entry. When the download completes, use the game’s Play button in that entry. Keeping the launch point consistent makes it easier to tell which edition you are running when both editions are visible.
- Keep the original installation’s mods separate. The original game’s mods remain unchanged. Do not treat the Complete Edition mod system as an update to the original installation; SEGA says the two mod environments are not compatible.
The important decision is the Library entry, not whether the public store page still displays the game. The store page’s continued presence does not mean the standalone app can be purchased again, and the delisting does not mean an existing app was removed from your account.

Buy and install through Steam Complete Edition
Complete Edition is the purchase path for someone who does not already own the original. On Steam, SEGA describes the package as including the original game and associated DLC other than the Blood Pack.
- Open Steam while signed in to the account that will play the game. Confirm the account before paying; ownership is attached to that account.
- Purchase Total War: SHOGUN 2 – Complete Edition. The Steam version is the one SEGA identifies as including the original game. Do not infer the same Steam-app entitlement from a Complete Edition purchase made at another listed storefront.
- Return to Library and search for
Total War: SHOGUN 2. The original game should be available as a Library entry after the purchase is registered. - Install the original entry when you need the legacy version. Select Install on the original game entry, then launch it there after the download completes.
- Decide which edition’s mods you will use before copying files. Original-game mods belong to the original environment. Complete Edition uses integrated Mod.io support, and SEGA says original mods are not compatible with that setup.
Buying Complete Edition is therefore an entitlement solution, not a forced migration of every old installation. You can own the package while still choosing the original game entry for the legacy experience.
Storefront entitlements compared
The storefront matters because “Complete Edition” does not describe one universal license across every store. The following comparison reflects SEGA’s FAQ and the ownership distinction it makes between Steam and the other listed storefronts.
| Storefront | What the purchase provides | Original Steam app included? | DLC detail | Mod environment |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Steam | Complete Edition | Yes, the original game is included | Associated DLC included except Blood Pack | Original game uses its existing mod ecosystem; Complete Edition uses Mod.io |
| Epic Games Store | Complete Edition only | Do not assume it adds the original Steam app | SEGA’s FAQ identifies the purchase as Complete Edition; no separate Steam entitlement is stated | Use the edition and platform supplied by that store |
| Microsoft Store | Complete Edition only | Do not assume it adds the original Steam app | SEGA’s FAQ identifies the purchase as Complete Edition; no separate Steam entitlement is stated | Use the edition and platform supplied by that store |
| GOG | Complete Edition only | Do not assume it adds the original Steam app | SEGA’s FAQ identifies the purchase as Complete Edition; no separate Steam entitlement is stated | Use the edition and platform supplied by that store |
If your priority is specifically the original Steam application, the evidence-backed purchase route is Steam Complete Edition. A different storefront may sell a playable Complete Edition, but that is not the same as granting the original Steam Library entry.

DLC: what existing owners and new buyers receive
Legacy DLC for existing Steam owners
SEGA says existing Steam owners were granted missing legacy DLC at no additional cost. This applies to the owner’s Steam entitlement; it is not a reason to expect every storefront’s Complete Edition license to create a Steam app.
Blood Pack exclusion
The Steam Complete Edition includes associated DLC except the Blood Pack. SEGA identifies the Blood Pack exclusion as an age-rating issue. Do not describe Complete Edition as containing every DLC item, because that would incorrectly include this excluded pack.
What to check after installation
- Confirm that the game launches from the intended Library entry.
- Check the account’s DLC listings if a legacy item appears absent.
- Remember that the no-cost legacy-DLC grant applies to existing Steam owners under SEGA’s announcement; it does not change the Blood Pack exclusion for Complete Edition.
Mods and why the editions must stay separate
The mod distinction is the main practical reason not to merge files between installations. The original Total War: SHOGUN 2 keeps its existing mod arrangement, while Complete Edition uses integrated Mod.io support. SEGA says mods made for the original game are not compatible with Complete Edition’s Mod.io setup.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteFor players staying with the original game
Continue using the original game’s established mods in the original installation. Your existing mod setup is not automatically converted by the delisting, and the original mods remain unchanged.
Rank #4
For players using Complete Edition
Use the mod workflow supplied by Complete Edition and Mod.io. A mod that was built for the original app should not be presumed to work simply because both editions share the same series name.
What not to do
- Do not copy Workshop or legacy mod files into the Complete Edition installation without checking compatibility.
- Do not overwrite one edition’s mod files with the other edition’s files as a troubleshooting shortcut.
- Do not judge compatibility by whether a mod appears in a menu; SEGA’s statement is that original mods are not compatible with Complete Edition’s Mod.io setup.
If you want both editions available, treat them as separate game-and-mod environments. That approach avoids turning a working original installation into an untestable mixture of legacy and Mod.io content.

A missing Library entry is not evidence that the delisting erased ownership. Work through account and support checks in this order.
1. Confirm the account
Sign out and back in if necessary, then verify that the account is the one that owned the original game. A different account can show the store page without showing the license you expect.
Best Value
- The American, British and French nations played an important part in the story of the Boshin war and your relations with these foreign powers will be integral to unit recruitment and to advancing your technology trees.
- Thirty nine new land units, including modern ranged units - such as the Gatling gun and Armstrong gun - controllable in a new third-person mode.
- New port siege battle type, this new battle type triggers when attempting a naval assault on an occupied enemy port. The attacking fleet must sail into the harbour and capture the port, running the gauntlet of coastal gun defences.
- New land and sea unit interactions, during a land battle, armies can call in offshore artillery support barrages.
- Campaign map bombardments: offshore naval units can bombard armies and cities in adjacent coastal areas on the campaign map itself.
2. Search the Library directly
Open Library and search for the full title, Total War: SHOGUN 2. Look for the original game entry and its Install control rather than relying on a shortcut, a recent-games filter, or a desktop icon.
3. Separate purchase visibility from ownership
The public store page can remain live even though standalone purchasing has ended. Seeing a page without a standalone buy option does not establish that an existing license disappeared, and seeing Complete Edition does not mean you must abandon the original app.
4. Contact Steam account or Library support
If the correct account still does not show the original entry, use Steam’s account and Library support channels. Provide the account and ownership details requested by Steam rather than buying another copy first.
5. Contact SEGA support if Steam cannot resolve the entitlement
SEGA’s FAQ confirms that existing owners retain access. If Steam support cannot restore or display the expected entry, contact SEGA support and explain that the original license is missing after the September 2026 delisting.
Discount timing for existing owners
SEGA announced a 75% loyalty discount on Complete Edition for existing Steam owners from 13 October 2026 through 12 November 2026. On 18 October 2026, that announced window is still open, but the offer is date-bound. Check the price shown in Steam before purchasing; do not present the discount as permanent or assume it will remain after 12 November.
The discount is separate from the core installation answer. If you already own the original, you can install it without buying Complete Edition. The loyalty offer matters only if you want the Complete Edition package or its additional edition-specific features and entitlements.
Quick decision guide
| Your situation | Best next action | Reason |
|---|---|---|
| You owned the original on Steam | Open Library, search the title, and install the original entry | Delisting removed standalone purchasing, not the existing license |
| You never owned it and want the original Steam app | Buy Complete Edition on Steam, then install the original Library entry | Steam Complete Edition includes the original game |
| You bought Complete Edition from Epic Games Store, Microsoft Store, or GOG | Use that store’s Complete Edition; do not expect a Steam original entry | SEGA lists those storefront purchases as Complete Edition only |
| Your old mods are important | Stay with the original game entry and keep its files separate | Original mods are not compatible with Complete Edition’s Mod.io setup |
| You are considering the loyalty offer | Check Steam during 13 October–12 November 2026 | The announced 75% discount has a fixed end date |
Bottom line for the “old Shogun 2” question
For an existing Steam owner, the procedure is simply Library, search Total War: SHOGUN 2, select the original entry, and choose Install. For a new buyer, Steam Complete Edition is the package that includes the original game, while the Blood Pack remains excluded. Epic Games Store, Microsoft Store, and GOG purchases should be treated as Complete Edition licenses that do not automatically grant the original Steam app. Keep legacy mods with the original installation and Mod.io content with Complete Edition.
