When can you install the Metro Redux update?
Deep Silver has scheduled the console update for October 29, 2026, for PS5, PS5 Pro, and Xbox Series X|S. The date is still in the future as of October 3, 2026, so an update check before then may show nothing. Deep Silver’s announcement is available at Deep Silver.

How to update Metro Redux on PS5
Once the update is released, use PlayStation’s standard game-update controls. These are general PS5 instructions, not a Metro-specific installation flow confirmed by Deep Silver.
- Connect your PS5 to the internet and start the game. PlayStation says starting a game checks for and updates it to the newest available version.
- To check manually, highlight the game on the home screen or in your game library, press the controller’s Options button, and choose Check for Update.
- If an update is available, follow the on-screen prompts to download and install it.
PlayStation also supports automatic game updates while the console is in rest mode. Whether a game downloads or installs automatically depends on your console settings. See PlayStation’s game update guidance for its general instructions.

How to update Metro Redux on Xbox Series X|S
Deep Silver confirms Xbox Series X|S support and the October 29, 2026 release date, but its announcement does not provide an Xbox menu path or confirm that the update will install automatically. When the update is released, check your console’s game update controls or consult official Xbox support rather than relying on an unconfirmed button sequence.
Is the update free, and which copies qualify?
Deep Silver describes the update as free for existing owners of either METRO 2033 Redux or METRO Last Light Redux. The announcement does not specify whether particular PS4 or Xbox One discs, regions, or storefront entitlements qualify on a newer console. If you are unsure whether your copy is eligible, check that game in your console library or ask the publisher or platform support after release. The announcement does not establish a paid upgrade option or a need to buy anything to install the update if you already qualify.

What the console update is expected to add
Deep Silver says the update keeps the original Redux aesthetic rather than remaking or remastering the games. Announced improvements include 4K textures across platforms, higher-fidelity animation, improved audio, richer environmental detail, community bug fixes, and quality-of-life changes. On consoles, the publisher describes true 4K at 60 FPS or upscaled 4K at 120 FPS with suitable display hardware, alongside improved lighting, shadows, and particle effects.

These are publisher-announced features, not independently measured performance results. Deep Silver says full technical patch notes and platform-specific details will be revealed at launch, so final implementation details may become clearer on October 29.

If the update does not appear
- Check that October 29, 2026 has arrived; before release, the update may not be available.
- Confirm the relevant Redux game is in your console library and that you are using an account with access to it.
- On PS5, highlight the game, press Options, and select Check for Update.
- On Xbox, check the console’s game update controls or official support. Deep Silver has not published Metro-specific Xbox troubleshooting steps.
PlayStation’s general update guidance covers routine update checks and troubleshooting. No Metro-specific error-code guidance or first-step recommendation to delete and reinstall the game is established in the publisher announcement.
