You cannot safely install LineageOS on an unspecified Samsung phone by following a universal Odin tutorial. LineageOS instructions are written for an exact model and regional variant, and the official Samsung example documented here uses Heimdall in Download Mode, not Odin. Identify your model first, open its current LineageOS installation page, and use only the firmware, recovery image, tool and sequence listed there.
Why a universal Odin tutorial is unsafe
Samsung sells many phones and tablets whose bootloader rules, partition layouts, firmware generations and recovery procedures differ. A file that is correct for one model can fail on another or permanently damage it. The name printed on the back of a device or in a shop listing is not enough: you need the complete model number and, where the device page distinguishes them, the regional variant.

The official LineageOS material available for Samsung devices demonstrates this difference. The Galaxy Tab S6 Lite Wi-Fi guide is for model SM-P610 and identifies LineageOS 22.2. A separate Galaxy S6 example is for SM-G920F and LineageOS 14.1. Neither example establishes a procedure for another Samsung phone. The Galaxy S10+ page at the beyond2lte build guide is a build page, not evidence that Odin is its installation tool.
For that reason, this article does not give a made-up Odin command sequence. The correct tool may be Odin, Heimdall or another method, and the answer can change between models and software versions. Treat the device’s current LineageOS page as the authority.

Identify the exact Samsung model before downloading anything
Read the model number on the device
Open Settings and look under About phone or About tablet for the model number. Compare it with the label on the retail box or chassis if available. If the device can enter Samsung Download Mode, note the model information shown there as well. Record the complete code, including letters and regional suffixes; do not rely on a marketing name such as “Galaxy S6” or “Tab S6 Lite.”
Write down the region or carrier variant when the LineageOS page asks for it. Wi-Fi and cellular versions, and devices sold in different markets, can have different hardware even when their names look identical.
Use the model as a hard stop
- Do not flash a recovery image whose page names a different model code.
- Do not use a LineageOS ZIP, stock firmware package or partition instruction copied from another Samsung device.
- Do not assume that a guide for a phone applies to a similarly named tablet, or that a Wi-Fi model applies to an LTE model.
- If no official LineageOS device page matches your complete model, stop rather than substituting a “close” match.
Open the official installation page for that device
Search the LineageOS device list for the exact model and open the page labelled for installation. Read the entire page before connecting the phone. It should specify the supported model, the LineageOS release, required stock-firmware level, bootloader-unlock conditions, host operating systems, recovery image, partition target, USB procedure and any additional packages.
The live page can change when a device moves to a newer release, so do not treat an old video, forum post or cached command as current. For example, the Galaxy Tab S6 Lite Wi-Fi page at https://wiki.lineageos.org/devices/gta4xlwifi/install is identified as a LineageOS 22.2 installation guide. Its requirements and filenames are specific to SM-P610.
Odin versus Heimdall: let the device guide decide
Odin is commonly associated with Samsung firmware flashing, but the supplied official installation example does not tell you to use it. The Tab S6 Lite Wi-Fi guide describes Heimdall as a cross-platform tool for communicating with Samsung Download Mode. It uses Heimdall to flash Lineage Recovery, then uses recovery and ADB sideload to install LineageOS.
That does not make Heimdall a universal replacement for Odin, either. The evidence supports only the procedure written for that particular device. Do not translate a Heimdall command, recovery filename or partition name to another model, and do not replace Heimdall with Odin unless the exact device page explicitly instructs you to do so. The two programs are not interchangeable simply because both can communicate with Samsung Download Mode.

When comparing the instructions for a particular model, check these items rather than choosing a tool by reputation:
- Whether your exact model and region are supported.
- Which stock-firmware version must already be installed.
- Whether the bootloader can be unlocked in your market and what data will be erased.
- Whether the guide names Odin, Heimdall or another host tool.
- Which recovery image and partition target are specified.
- Which computer operating systems and supplemental packages are supported.
- Whether add-ons must be installed before the first reboot.
Worked example: the Galaxy Tab S6 Lite Wi-Fi (SM-P610)
The following is an orientation to the sequence documented by the official guide for the Wi-Fi Tab S6 Lite. It is not a generic Samsung procedure and must not be applied to another model. Use the live page for the actual downloads, commands and current wording.
1. Confirm the model and stock-firmware requirement
The guide requires model SM-P610 and Android 13 stock firmware before installation. Check the installed software and the model code before downloading a recovery image or ZIP. If your tablet is a different variant, stop and locate its own page.
The guide issues this warning: “Failing to install the correct firmware version prior to installation may result in failure to install LineageOS, unexpected crashes post-installation, or permanent damage to your device!” This warning belongs to the SM-P610 guide. It does not mean that Android 13 is required for every Samsung device.
2. Read the whole guide and back up your data
Unlocking the bootloader in this guide wipes all user data. Copy photographs, messages, authenticator records, documents and any other irreplaceable material to storage you can access after the wipe. Export application data where the application supports it, and make sure you can sign back into important accounts.
A backup is not a substitute for checking the model. A complete backup cannot recover a device damaged by an incompatible image, and cloud synchronization may not include every local file.

3. Follow the device-specific unlock and Download Mode instructions
Use the exact OEM-unlock sequence and Download Mode entry described on the SM-P610 page. Samsung bootloader behavior can vary by model and region; do not improvise a key combination or skip a confirmation screen because a different phone used another method.
Expect the unlock operation to erase the tablet. Let the device complete that process before continuing, and return to the guide if its screen displays a state different from the one it documents.
4. Install the host tools named by the guide
Install and verify the guide’s Heimdall suite for your computer’s operating system. The page also calls out UsbDk for Windows users. Use the versions and verification steps on the live page rather than downloading an unrelated repackaged executable.

The official guidance recommends trying a different cable if the device is not detected; a cable that only supplies power will not establish the required data connection.
5. Flash Lineage Recovery with Heimdall
With the tablet in Download Mode, connect it to the computer and use the Heimdall command and image placement specified for SM-P610. The recovery image and partition target are device-specific, so do not copy a command from another Samsung page or substitute a file with a similar name.
Watch for the success or failure indication described by the guide. If the host cannot see the tablet, stop and resolve the USB or tool problem before sending another flash operation.

6. Boot directly into recovery
After flashing, follow the guide’s button sequence to boot into Lineage Recovery immediately. Do not allow the normal stock system to start if the page tells you to enter recovery first; doing so can undo or replace the newly flashed recovery on some devices. Use the recovery screen documented for your model, not a generic Android recovery tutorial.

7. Format data in recovery
Use the recovery option to format data exactly as instructed. This is separate from the earlier bootloader-unlock wipe and removes the remaining user-data layout needed for the installation. Confirm the prompt only after verifying that your backup is complete.
8. Sideload the LineageOS ZIP
Choose the recovery’s ADB sideload function, then start the sideload from the computer with the device-specific LineageOS ZIP. Use the filename and host command shown on the live page. A sideload percentage or completion message is not proof that a ZIP for another model is safe; the package must match SM-P610.
9. Install only applicable add-ons in the required order
If you need an add-on listed by the guide, install it at the point the guide specifies. Some device instructions require an add-on before the first system boot. Do not add packages from another model’s page or reboot early to “test” the system when the sequence still has required steps.
10. Reboot after the installation sequence is complete
Only reboot into the installed system after formatting data, sideloading the operating-system ZIP and applying any required add-on. The first boot can take longer than a normal restart. If the tablet returns to recovery or shows an error, stop and use the troubleshooting section of the device page rather than repeatedly wiping or flashing random files.

Keep the computer connected to reliable power and close programs that might seize the USB device. Use a direct USB port where possible, avoid loose hubs, and keep the original cable available as a comparison. The official guide’s recommendation to try another cable is particularly useful when Download Mode appears on the tablet but the host tool reports no device.

It will NOT work with other CDMA carriers, and it is also not compatible with their MVNO (Visible, Xfinity Mobile, US Mobile, Cricket Wireless, etc).
- Compatibility with certain third-party devices and accessibility accessories, including some hearing aids, may vary depending on manufacturer support, Bluetooth protocols, software compatibility, and regional firmware limitations. For additional hearing aid compatibility information, please refer to Samsung’s official support documentation.

Install only the host components named for your operating system. On Windows, the SM-P610 page specifically mentions UsbDk alongside the Heimdall suite. A package intended for a different operating system or an unofficial driver bundle can create a second failure that looks like a bad tablet.
Before flashing, verify that the computer can detect the device in the mode required by the guide. Detection in normal Android does not prove detection in Download Mode, and detection in Download Mode does not prove that the correct recovery image is ready.
Common failure modes and safe recovery
The computer does not detect the Samsung device
- Confirm that the device is actually in Download Mode, not merely powered on or charging.
- Reconnect the USB cable and try a different known-good data cable, as the official guide recommends.
- Try another USB port and remove an intermediate hub.
- On Windows, check the UsbDk requirement on the applicable guide and reinstall or repair the guide’s host-tool installation.
- Do not proceed until the tool reports the device in the expected mode.
The guide reports a firmware or installation failure
Recheck the exact model and the required stock-firmware level. For SM-P610, the documented prerequisite is Android 13 stock firmware. An incorrect version can cause installation failure, crashes after installation or permanent damage, according to the LineageOS warning. Restore the specified stock firmware using the device’s own instructions before attempting the LineageOS steps again.
The ZIP will not sideload
Confirm that you entered the recovery’s ADB sideload mode, that the computer is using the ADB procedure named by the device page, and that the ZIP is the exact build for the model. Do not rename an unrelated ZIP to make it appear compatible. If the transfer stops, record the recovery error and follow the current device page’s recovery instructions.
The device boots the stock system instead of Lineage Recovery
Return to the model-specific guide and repeat only the documented transition from Download Mode to recovery. The SM-P610 sequence requires booting directly into recovery after flashing. Do not assume that a normal reboot is harmless or that a recovery image for another Samsung device will solve the problem.
The first LineageOS boot crashes or loops
Check the firmware prerequisite first, then verify that every image and ZIP came from the exact device page. On the SM-P610 guide, an incorrect firmware version is explicitly associated with unexpected crashes. Avoid repeated random wipes and flashes; preserve any error text and use the project’s current troubleshooting directions for that model.
What “supported” means for your Samsung phone
A model appearing in a LineageOS list does not mean that every regional variant or every release is supported indefinitely. Support is tied to the device identifier and the instructions published for that identifier. A page may require a particular stock operating-system version, a specific recovery image and a particular installation order.
Recommended Free Tools
For example, the SM-P610 page’s Android 13 prerequisite and Heimdall-based sequence cannot be transferred to the SM-G920F Galaxy S6 example, which is associated with LineageOS 14.1. Conversely, the existence of a Galaxy S10+ build page does not prove that its installation uses Odin. Always distinguish a build page from an installation page.
Pre-flash checklist
- Record the complete Samsung model code and regional variant.
- Find the current official LineageOS installation page for that exact identifier.
- Read every prerequisite, warning and step before downloading files.
- Confirm the required stock-firmware version; for SM-P610, that is Android 13.
- Back up all data, knowing that bootloader unlocking in the SM-P610 guide wipes the device.
- Prepare a compatible USB data cable and a computer supported by the guide.
- Install the named host tools, including UsbDk where the Windows instructions require it.
- Use only the recovery image, ZIP, partition target and commands published for your model.
- Plan to format data, sideload the operating-system ZIP and install any required add-on before the first reboot.
- Keep the device page open while working and stop whenever the screen or error differs from its instructions.
The practical answer to “Can I install LineageOS with Odin?”
Maybe, but the model page must say so. The evidence available for the Galaxy Tab S6 Lite Wi-Fi points to Heimdall plus ADB sideload, not an Odin walkthrough. Until you identify the exact Samsung model and read its current official installation page, there is no safe answer about Odin, firmware, recovery or commands. Treat that uncertainty as a required compatibility check, not as an invitation to try a nearby tutorial.
