The safe way to install Lemon is to verify your phone first, download the APK only from the project’s named channels, install it with Android’s package installer, and import only game files, prod.keys, and firmware that you legally dumped from a Nintendo Switch you own. Lemon does not supply those files. The current requirements are Android 12 or newer, a 64-bit ARM (arm64) build, and a supported Adreno or Mali GPU.
What Lemon is and what your phone must support
Lemon is an Android-only Nintendo Switch emulator. The project describes it as “An Android-only Nintendo Switch emulator built for Adreno GPUs.” Its current official material also documents Mali support, including support introduced by the project since version 1.1. Other GPU families are not presented as supported in the FAQ, so a phone with an unsupported graphics platform should not be treated as compatible merely because it runs Android.

The project’s FAQ requires Android 12 or newer. The version 1.2.0 release records an additional arm64 requirement. In practice, all three checks matter: a recent Android version, a 64-bit ARM userspace/device build, and a supported GPU. Meeting only one or two of them does not establish compatibility.

These are compatibility gates, not a performance guarantee. The project does not publish a universal frame-rate promise, malware-rate statistic, or compatibility percentage. A phone that passes the requirements may still need game-specific settings and may perform differently from another phone with a similar GPU.

Where to download the genuine Lemon APK
The FAQ names git.lemon-emu.org, lemon-emu.org, and the project’s GitHub mirror as official locations. Use one of those channels and verify that the download corresponds to the release you intend to install. If a page is not one of the project’s named channels, treat it as untrusted.
Red flags for a repackaged APK
- A download page promises that games, firmware, or
prod.keysare already included. - The page asks you to install a second “installer,” disable Android security protections, or grant unrelated permissions.
- The file is distributed through an unrelated mirror, file locker, pop-up-heavy page, or link shortener instead of an official project channel.
- The filename, version, or architecture does not match the release information shown by the project.
- The download is accompanied by claims of guaranteed performance, unlimited game compatibility, or a preconfigured library that the project itself does not document.
No official material cited here publishes a malware scan result for every APK. That means a scan badge on a third-party page is not a substitute for provenance. The strongest evidence-based control is to obtain the package from the named official channels, avoid modified builds, and inspect Android’s installer details before accepting.
Prepare your phone before installation
- Confirm Android 12 or newer. Record the exact Android version from Settings > About phone > Android version.
- Confirm the architecture. The v1.2.0 release specifies
arm64. Do not assume that a phone with a 64-bit processor is running a 64-bit Android build; verify the device/build information. - Identify the GPU. Check the exact chipset specification and determine whether it is Adreno or Mali. The FAQ does not present other GPU families as supported.
- Back up important data. Keep your existing game dumps and configuration files in a separate location before changing emulator software or storage permissions.
- Use sufficient free storage. The official requirements cited here do not state a universal storage figure. Leave room for the APK, emulator data, shader/cache files, and your own legally dumped games rather than filling the device to capacity.
- Update Android and Google Play system components where your manufacturer provides updates. This is general device hygiene, not a Lemon-specific requirement, but it reduces avoidable package-installer and driver problems.
Install Lemon safely, step by step
1. Download from an official channel
Open the project’s official site or repository in your browser, select the release you need, and save the APK locally. For a release identified as version 1.2.0, confirm that your device meets Android 12-or-newer and arm64 requirements before opening the file.

2. Review Android’s unknown-app permission
Android may block an APK downloaded outside an app store. If prompted, use the system path shown on your phone, commonly Settings > Apps > Special app access > Install unknown apps, select the browser or file manager that opened the APK, and enable permission temporarily. Menu names differ by manufacturer and Android skin.
Grant this permission only to the app you used to obtain the official package. After installation, return to the same screen and turn the permission off again unless you have a specific reason to keep it enabled.
3. Open the APK with Android’s package installer
Tap the downloaded file in your browser’s download list or file manager. Android’s package installer should display the application identity, version, and requested permissions. Check those details before tapping Install. Do not continue if the package name, version, or permission list looks unrelated to an emulator.

4. Finish installation and launch once
Wait for Android to report that installation completed, then open Lemon from the app drawer. The first launch may request access to storage or a folder picker so that you can select your own files. Grant only the access needed to the folders you intend to use; avoid granting unrelated device permissions.

Once Lemon is installed, revoke the browser or file manager’s Install unknown apps permission. This prevents a later accidental tap from silently authorizing another APK package.
What to do when Android says the package cannot be parsed
“There was a problem parsing the package” is a package-installation failure, not proof that Lemon itself is malicious. Work through these checks in order:

- Recheck that the phone runs Android 12 or newer.
- Confirm that the downloaded build is intended for
arm64, as specified for version 1.2.0. - Delete the file and download a fresh copy from git.lemon-emu.org, lemon-emu.org, or the project’s GitHub mirror.
- Make sure the browser finished downloading the entire file; an interrupted or renamed download can be incomplete.
- Open the new file with Android’s package installer rather than an archive utility or an installer supplied by an unrelated website.
- If the device still rejects the package, stop rather than bypassing the error. The architecture, Android version, or APK itself may not match your phone.
Import games, keys, and firmware legally
Lemon does not include or distribute prod.keys, firmware, or games. Its stated boundary is: “You must provide your own legally obtained games, keys and firmware; none are included or distributed here.” Use files dumped from a Nintendo Switch you legally own and follow the laws that apply where you live.
Organize your own files
- Keep game dumps in a folder you can identify, such as a dedicated emulator library folder.
- Store
prod.keysand firmware in the locations Lemon’s import controls request. Do not copy keys or firmware from a download page, chat group, “ROM pack,” or preloaded APK. - Keep an untouched backup of your original dumps. If an import fails, you can retry without repeatedly moving or renaming the source files.
- Do not assume that a game file alone is sufficient; the emulator may require the matching user-supplied keys and firmware.
Point Lemon to the folders
- Open Lemon and use its library or game-directory control to select the folder containing your legally dumped games.
- Use the key-import control to select your own
prod.keysfile when prompted. - Use the firmware-import control to select the firmware dump you created from your own console.
- Rescan the library. If a title does not appear, verify the folder selection and file format rather than downloading a replacement.
A website that advertises “Lemon with keys,” “Lemon ROMs,” or “all firmware included” is offering material outside the project’s stated distribution boundary. Avoid it even if the page uses Lemon’s name and logo.

The project documents in-app update checks against Lemon’s server, with a GitHub mirror fallback. Its settings guide says the update setting can offer to download and install a newer version. Prefer that built-in route when it is available, and verify that any fallback download comes from one of the project’s named official channels.

Recommended update procedure
- Open Lemon’s settings and locate the update setting.
- Run the update check and read the version offered before accepting it.
- Allow the app to download and invoke Android’s package installer only when the source is the documented Lemon server or official mirror.
- Keep your game dumps, keys, and firmware in their own folders so an emulator update does not become a reason to redownload them.
- After updating, launch one title and verify that your library path and input mapping are still present.
If an update prompt opens an unrelated domain, asks for a “patched” APK, or claims that you must install keys or firmware separately from a third party, cancel it and obtain the release through the official channels instead.

Lemon lists full controller navigation. You can begin with touch controls, then add an Android-compatible Bluetooth controller if you prefer physical buttons. Controller compatibility depends on both the phone and the controller, so a pairing success does not guarantee that every button will map correctly.
Touch controls
- Start with the default layout and test every button in a menu before launching a demanding game.
- Keep the phone in the orientation required by the game and emulator interface.
- Adjust only one control or sensitivity option at a time so you can identify which change helped or caused a problem.
Bluetooth controller
- Put the controller into pairing mode.
- On Android, open Settings > Connected devices > Pair new device (the wording varies by manufacturer).
- Select the controller and complete pairing.
- Return to Lemon and use its controller or input settings to test navigation and assign any buttons that are not detected correctly.
- Test the connection in a menu before starting a long game session; intermittent Bluetooth connections are easier to diagnose before gameplay begins.

A practical safety checklist

What the official requirements do—and do not—promise
The documented requirements establish a baseline for installation: Android 12 or newer, arm64 for the version 1.2.0 release, and a documented Adreno or Mali graphics platform. They do not promise that every Switch title will boot, that every game will run at a particular speed, or that every controller will map identically. Those outcomes can vary by device, game, driver behavior, and configuration.
Installing safely therefore means preserving a trustworthy chain from the project’s release channel to Android’s installer, then supplying only your own legally dumped content. If the phone fails a stated requirement or a download page offers bundled copyrighted files, the safe decision is to stop rather than work around the warning.
