To download an app on a TCL TV, first identify its platform: Google TV, Android TV, Roku TV, or Fire TV. Each uses a different store and menu path, so follow the steps for the interface shown on your screen.
Identify your TCL TV’s platform
Check the TV’s home screen or its settings/about information for the platform name. TCL TVs do not all use the same app store: Google TV and Android TV use Google app-store menus, Roku TV uses the Roku channel store, and Fire TV uses Amazon Appstore. Menu labels can vary by model, region, and software version.

Download an app on TCL Google TV
- From the home screen, press the Assistant button and say or type the app name, or select Search.
- If the app appears, open its page and select Install.
- You can also open the Apps tab, browse categories, select an app or game, and follow the on-screen prompts.
For a Google TV with multiple profiles, apps added to the TV work across profiles except kids’ profiles. To remove an app, go to Apps, find it under Your apps, open its details, and choose Uninstall. TCL’s Google TV app instructions explain the available search and installation options.
Download an app on TCL Android TV
- From the home screen, open Apps.
- Select Google Play Store.
- Browse or search for the app or game.
- Select the result and follow the on-screen prompts to install it or complete a purchase.
Downloaded apps, updates, and uninstall options are managed through the Play Store or Settings menus. TCL’s instructions include Android TV steps on a page titled for Google TV, so use the labels visible on your own model rather than assuming the two interfaces are identical. Add a channel on TCL Roku TV
- Press Home on the remote.
- Scroll to Streaming apps to open the store.
- Choose Search apps, enter the app or channel name, and select the matching result.
- Choose the option to add it. Enter your Roku account PIN if prompted.
Adding a channel to a TCL Roku TV also adds it to other streaming devices associated with the same Roku account. TCL also describes adding apps through the Roku mobile app or Roku account website. See TCL’s Roku TV instructions for adding apps.
Download an app on TCL Fire TV
- Press Home.
- Open Appstore, or use Find or Search to look for the app.
- Select the app in the results.
- Choose Get or Download. After installation, open it from the home screen’s apps list.
These steps apply to the Amazon Appstore interface on TCL Fire TV. TCL’s Fire TV app instructions provide the corresponding menu flow.

If you can’t find or open the app
The app doesn’t appear in search
- Confirm that the TV is connected to the internet.
- Check that the app is available for your TV’s platform and region. An app offered on one TCL platform may not be offered on another.
- Use the store for the platform shown on your TV: Google Play Store for Android TV, the Apps tab or search on Google TV, Streaming apps on Roku TV, or Amazon Appstore on Fire TV.
On Roku TV, an account is used to add free and paid channels, and internet access is needed for streaming. Installing an app does not itself include any subscription the service may require. TCL’s smart TV overview describes its platform options, while its Roku app guide explains account use.

- Check the TV’s network connection.
- Check for app and system updates.
- If relevant, sign out of the app and sign back in, and confirm that the account or subscription is active.
- Check with the app provider for a service outage.
- If only one app is affected, remove and reinstall that app.
For TCL Roku TV, a factory reset is a last resort: it erases downloaded apps, account sign-ins, settings, and preferences. Try the targeted checks first. TCL’s Roku TV troubleshooting steps outline the recommended checks.
