The safest way to run the current unofficial P.T. PC project is to obtain the installer from the LoreanXavier/pt-pc repository’s Releases page, provide game data dumped from your own compatible PS4 copy, and verify that your computer meets the project’s Vulkan and operating-system requirements. The port does not include P.T.’s levels, textures, audio, scripts, or video files, and its installer does not decrypt retail PlayStation packages.
This guide covers the current native port called PT-PC. It is different from older fan recreations that rebuilt the teaser in another engine. Follow the project’s own release notes immediately before installing because this newly published software, its binaries, and its compatibility list can change.

What PT-PC is—and what it is not
PT-PC is a native Windows and Linux port of the 2014 PlayStation 4 teaser P.T. The project says its game logic was rebuilt in C++, while rendering uses Vulkan. At runtime, it reads the original game’s levels, models, textures, sound, scripts, and cutscenes from files supplied by the player.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
That design makes PT-PC a runtime for data you already possess, not a downloadable copy of P.T. The repository and installer do not contain Konami or Kojima Productions assets. The project README says it is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or connected to either company and identifies P.T. as their work and property. That is the developer’s description, not a jurisdiction-specific legal ruling.

Older projects sometimes use the name P.T. PC recreation while rebuilding the experience in Unreal Engine or another engine. Those projects are not interchangeable with this guide. Confirm that the repository name is LoreanXavier/pt-pc and that the release includes the PT-PC installer before proceeding.
Check these prerequisites first
Compatible game data
The README says the port was built and tested with the United States release identified as CUSA01127. The supported input is either a dump folder created from the player’s console or a fake PKG generated from that dump. European and Japanese releases are described as installable with a note, but the developer says those versions have not been examined. Treat them as unverified rather than assuming every regional file set will work.
You must be able to access the decrypted files yourself. A retail or store PKG is not an alternative input: the installer refuses retail packages and the setup/helper does not decrypt Sony-encrypted content.
Free tools Windows power users keep installed

Supported operating systems
- Windows 10 or Windows 11, 64-bit.
- Linux x86-64 with glibc 2.38 or newer.
- Steam Deck users should install from Desktop Mode, then add the installed
ptexecutable as a non-Steam game.
Graphics and feature requirements
Your graphics processor and driver need Vulkan 1.3 support. Optional ray-traced effects additionally require Vulkan ray queries. DLSS is available only on GeForce RTX hardware; FSR and XeSS are listed for recent GPUs that support those technologies. These are the project’s stated requirements, not the result of an independent hardware test, so check your driver and GPU documentation if a feature is important to you.
Microphone is optional
One sequence can use voice input, but a microphone is not mandatory. The README documents a keyboard substitute: open pt.ini, find the [voice] section, and set key = J. If you prefer not to grant a game microphone access, use that key-binding route.

- Reawaken a Classic – Resident Evil 4 preserves the essence of the original game, now reconstructed using Capcom’s proprietary RE Engine to deliver realistic visuals and additional narrative depth to the iconic story that was not possible at the time of the original release.
- Modernized Gameplay – The team from 2019’s Resident Evil 2 returns to build upon the series’ modern approach to survival horror. Engage in frenzied combat with the Ganados villagers, explore a European village gripped by madness, and solve puzzles to access new areas and collect useful items for Leon and Ashley’s constant struggle to survive.
- Overwhelming Hordes – Face hordes of rabid enemies that threaten to overwhelm Leon with even more diverse methods of attack than in the original release.
- Survive on a Knife’s Edge – Years of intense training have taught Leon new ways to use his knife, helping to even the odds against the unrelenting onslaught of enemies. By parrying enemy attacks, you can avoid debilitating damage and evade lunging enemies seeking to grab Leon and hold him in place. Make smart use of scavenged knives to deliver precise finishing moves on vulnerable enemies, and even use the element of surprise to quietly dispatch unsuspecting foes before they break.
- Reimagined Story – Resident Evil 4 dials up the original release’s key feelings of loneliness and the fear of enemies blinded by zealotry, while providing more nuanced depictions of the character motivations and relationships that defined the 2005 survival horror icon.
Choose a supported installation input
| Input | What it means | Supported status | Safety boundary |
|---|---|---|---|
| Dump folder | A decrypted folder exported from your own compatible console copy | Primary documented route; US CUSA01127 is the tested target |
Keep the original dump unchanged and point the installer to its location |
| Fake PKG from your dump | A package made from the same decrypted dump | Documented alternative | The package must come from your own decrypted data |
| Retail/store PKG | An encrypted package obtained through a retail channel | Refused by the setup | PT-PC does not decrypt it; do not try to bypass encryption |
| Downloaded game archive | A copy obtained from an unofficial redistribution source | Not a supported or safe source | Do not use it; provenance and rights cannot be established |
Do not overwrite or modify your only dump while troubleshooting. Make a separate working copy if you need to reorganize folders, and retain enough free storage for the installed runtime and the game archives.
Install PT-PC on Windows
- Open the
LoreanXavier/pt-pcGitHub repository and select its Releases link. Choose the current Windows file namedP.T.PC.Port.Setup.exe. Avoid similarly named remakes or binaries reposted by download sites. - Before launching it, confirm that your Windows edition is 64-bit and that your graphics driver exposes Vulkan 1.3. Install the driver supplied by your GPU manufacturer if Vulkan is missing or reports an older version.
- Run the setup executable. When it asks for game input, select either your decrypted dump folder or the fake PKG made from that dump. Do not select an encrypted retail/store PKG.
- Choose an installation destination. The README gives
%LocalAppData%ProgramsP.T. PC Portas the Windows default. A different local folder is acceptable if your account has permission to write there and the path does not contain files you need to protect from being changed. - Allow the installer to place the PT-PC runtime and the three game archives it requires. Do not cancel while it is copying or unpacking data; a truncated archive can produce missing textures, crashes, or an apparently empty game.
- When setup finishes, start the installed game from the generated shortcut or executable. On first launch, let shader compilation or initial asset processing complete before deciding that the program has frozen.
If Windows Defender or another security tool warns about an unfamiliar newly released executable, do not automatically disable protection. Confirm that you obtained the file from the project’s Releases page, compare the download size with the release information, and investigate the warning through your security software before allowing it.
Install on Linux
- From the project’s Releases page, download the Linux setup binary that matches the current release. Save it in a directory you control.
- Open a terminal in that directory and mark the file executable with
chmod +x, followed by the setup filename. For example, the command pattern ischmod +x ./setup-file; substitute the exact filename shown by the release. - Run the setup binary. The installer guide describes choosing either a file input or a folder input, so select your decrypted dump folder or fake PKG when prompted.
- Select a destination on a filesystem where your user account can create directories and write several large archives. Avoid a read-only mount or a path shared with another installation.
- Let setup install the PT-PC runtime beside the three required game archives. If the process stops, read the terminal output and check free space and permissions before retrying.
- Launch the installed executable from the destination directory. If your desktop environment does not create an application entry, create your own shortcut that points to the executable without changing its working directory.
Linux support is specified for x86-64 systems with glibc 2.38 or newer. A distribution with an older C library may fail before the game window appears even when the GPU is capable of Vulkan.
Use the portable ZIP option
The README also documents a portable route for users who do not want a system-wide style installation.
- Download the current portable ZIP from the project’s release assets.
- Extract it to a directory with enough space. Do not run the executable while it is still inside the compressed archive.
- Point the program at your game data in one of the documented layouts. The explicit command form is
pt.exe --game <your CUSA01127 folder>. - Alternatively, place the game folder beside the executable as
game/CUSA01127, then startpt.exewithout the argument.
The portable method does not remove the data requirement: you still need a compatible decrypted dump or fake PKG. Keep the portable directory together if you move it to another drive so relative paths continue to resolve.

Steam Deck procedure
The project README’s Steam Deck instruction is to install from Desktop Mode and add pt as a non-Steam game. Desktop Mode gives you access to the file manager, terminal, and installer UI that are difficult to use from the gaming interface alone.

Run the first launch safely
Keep the source data separate
Use the dump as source material and let the installer copy or unpack what it needs. Keeping a clean original makes recovery possible if an update, interrupted copy, or mistaken path selection damages the working files.
Use a controlled network setting
The project checks GitHub Releases for updates at startup. If you do not want that check, open pt.ini and set check_updates = 0 under [network]. Disabling the check does not prevent manual updates; it only stops the startup request described by the README.
Start without optional graphics features
If the game crashes during initialization, first use baseline Vulkan rendering. Ray-traced effects require Vulkan ray queries and can fail on hardware or drivers that support Vulkan 1.3 but not that extension. Enable optional effects only after a basic launch succeeds.
Grant only the access you need
Run the installer and game under your normal user account whenever possible. Avoid launching an unfamiliar binary as an administrator or root merely to bypass a permissions error. Correct the destination permissions instead, and use the documented keyboard voice control if you do not want to grant microphone access.

Understand the installer’s integrity check
The installer documentation describes a SHA-256 self-integrity check that can detect a corrupt or truncated setup executable. That is useful for catching an incomplete download or damaged file. It is not a malware scan, an external security certification, or proof that a binary copied to a third-party mirror is safe.
The documentation also says there is no whole-file hash check for the game archives and that the game itself does not validate its own files. If an archive is incomplete, the program may fail later with missing content rather than giving a precise integrity error. Prefer the project’s own Releases page over reposted downloads, and treat any mirror as unverified.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Troubleshoot common failures
The installer rejects your package
- Confirm that the input is a decrypted dump folder or a fake PKG generated from that dump.
- If it is a retail/store PKG, stop. The setup is designed to refuse it and does not decrypt Sony-encrypted content.
- Check that the folder identifies the expected game, especially the tested US directory name
CUSA01127. - For an EU or Japanese release, remember that the developer has not seen those data sets; a failure may reflect unverified regional differences rather than a broken installer.
The game opens and immediately closes
- Verify Windows 10/11 x64 or Linux x86-64 with glibc 2.38 or newer.
- Update the GPU driver and confirm Vulkan 1.3 support.
- Run the baseline renderer before enabling ray-traced effects.
- Reinstall or recopy the archives from the original dump if the portable or installed files were interrupted during transfer.
Textures, sound, or cutscenes are missing
These symptoms usually indicate that the runtime cannot find one or more of the three required archives or that the game path points to the wrong directory level. Recheck the selected folder, confirm that the archives were installed beside the runtime, and compare the portable layout with either pt.exe --game <your CUSA01127 folder> or game/CUSA01127.
Voice interaction does not work
Check the operating system’s microphone permission and the selected input device. If you prefer a non-audio control, set key = J beneath [voice] in pt.ini and use the keyboard prompt documented by the project.
Linux says a library is missing
Confirm the distribution’s glibc version is at least 2.38 and that the setup file has execute permission. A 32-bit environment, an older compatibility layer, or launching from a path without execute permission is outside the stated Linux target.

Updates and rollback planning
Use the Releases page as the authoritative place to obtain a newer PT-PC build. Read the release notes for changed requirements before replacing a working installation. Because the project checks for updates at startup, you can leave that feature enabled for convenience or set [network] to check_updates = 0 and update manually.
Keep the original dump and, if storage permits, retain the previous PT-PC directory until the new build launches successfully. A rollback is simpler when you can restore the prior executable and configuration rather than rebuilding the installation from scratch.
Ownership, legality, and responsible use
P.T. remains associated with its original rights holders. The PT-PC README states that the project is unaffiliated with and not endorsed by Kojima Productions or Konami, and that it contains none of their assets. The port’s operating model—reading files supplied by the player—does not grant a license to download or redistribute those files.

Quick Recap
Quick decision guide
| Your situation | Recommended action |
|---|---|
You have a US CUSA01127 decrypted dump and Windows 10/11 x64 |
Use P.T.PC.Port.Setup.exe from the current Releases page and select the dump folder. |
| You have a fake PKG created from your own dump | Use the installer’s PKG input option; do not substitute a retail/store PKG. |
| You run Linux x86-64 with glibc 2.38 or newer | Make the Linux setup executable with chmod +x, run it, and select the dump or fake PKG. |
| You want no installer-managed destination | Use the portable ZIP and launch with pt.exe --game or the documented game/CUSA01127 layout. |
| You own only an encrypted retail package | Do not attempt installation; the documented setup does not decrypt it. |
| You lack a Vulkan 1.3-capable GPU or driver | Upgrade or change the system before troubleshooting the game; the port’s renderer depends on Vulkan. |
What to remember
- Verify that you are using the current PT-PC repository, not an older Unreal Engine recreation.
- Supply your own compatible decrypted game data; the port does not provide P.T.’s content.
- Use the official Releases path and the documented installer or portable layouts.
- Retail PKGs are refused, and the setup does not bypass Sony encryption.
- Check Vulkan 1.3, operating-system, and Linux glibc requirements before installing.
- A microphone is optional because the project documents a keyboard alternative.
- The setup’s SHA-256 check can detect corruption or truncation, but it is not a malware audit.
