What Borderlands MMO and BLOL mean
Borderlands Online was a 2015 release in China that was cancelled shortly afterward, according to the BLOL project FAQ. BLOL is a community restoration of that game, not a new official Borderlands release. The project currently describes the available build as a playtest.

How to download and install BLOL

Go to the official BLOL download page and check the latest-version date. Download the client from the source linked there. The page says the latest version was uploaded October 4, 2026; if you downloaded before that date, it instructs you to download again.

Extract the downloaded archive to a folder of your choice.

Run the installer located outside the game files folder.

Open the game launcher and launch the game from its server section.

At the login screen, enter the username and password you want to use. If those credentials are available, they create your account. Use a unique password: the project says it cannot restore access if you lose your login details.

For later sessions, use the same credentials. To install a game-build update, the project’s installation guide says to replace the game files folder, run the installer again, and choose “Add/Replace.”
Which server should you choose?
The launcher lists Europe, North America East, and Offline (Local). Select a server using the launcher’s top bar. The project says accounts created on one online server cannot be transferred to another, so choose Europe or North America East before creating an online account.

In the launcher, set the server path to the “OfflineServer” folder inside the game files folder.

Select “Offline” on the right side of the launcher.

Point the launcher to the offline server executable inside that OfflineServer folder, then launch.
Offline mode removes multiplayer. The project also documents using the launcher’s Game Sync tab to copy an online character to the local server or import a previously downloaded save file. Because Game Sync requires the online servers, it is not available after an online shutdown; local progress cannot be sent back to an online server.

Is BLOL in English?
Mostly, but not completely. The project’s FAQ says the game is largely localized into English, and its homepage advertises English localization. Some Chinese text and textures may remain; the team says it intends to address missed text. Translated textures may also use fonts or colors that differ from the original.
What differs from the original game?
The restoration aims to stay faithful, but the FAQ identifies some differences. Grenade mods were not implemented in the original before shutdown and remain absent in the vanilla revival. Golden keys are earnable rather than monetized. Enemy spawn locations, localized strings, and balance values may differ.
Playtest, security, and cost cautions
Expect an unfinished playtest
The project says the team is still fixing bugs and improving the game. A GamesRadar+ report published October 5, 2026 relayed warnings about bugs, broken skills and animations, and server outages. Those are reported playtest issues, not a guarantee that every player will encounter them.
Read the project’s antivirus warning carefully
The download page warns that antivirus software or Windows Defender may flag files because the executables are unsigned and the package contains miscellaneous DLLs. The project labels these detections false positives and links to a VirusTotal scan, but that is the project’s own assessment, not an independent security finding. Download only if you trust the files and are willing to accept the risk.
The project says it is free
The FAQ says BLOL is free, has no paid features or microtransactions, and that anyone asking for money in connection with the project is a scammer. Use the official project page rather than paying someone for access.
