Photoshop 27.x requirements
Photoshop 27.x and later requires a supported Windows release, at least 8 GB of RAM, and 16 GB or more recommended. The graphics processor must support DirectX 12 feature level 12_0, provide at least 1.5 GB of GPU memory, and be newer than seven years with a current manufacturer driver. An RTX Spark system should satisfy the GPU-age and feature requirements, but still verify the installed driver and DirectX feature level.
| Item | Photoshop 27.x | Premiere Pro 26.x |
|---|---|---|
| Operating system | Supported Windows release | Windows 11 24H2 |
| System RAM minimum | 8 GB | 8 GB |
| System RAM recommended | 16 GB or more | 16 GB for HD; 32 GB or more for 4K+ |
| GPU memory | 1.5 GB minimum | 4 GB minimum; 8 GB recommended |
| Graphics API | DirectX 12 feature level 12_0 | NVIDIA GPU with supported acceleration features |
| Storage layout | Fast scratch space is advisable; exact capacity is not stated | Fast internal SSD for app/cache plus separate high-speed media drive |
These are application-level requirements, not a promise that every project will play smoothly. Multicam timelines, high-bitrate RAW, heavy noise reduction, large Photoshop documents and AI effects can require more memory and storage bandwidth than the minimums suggest.
Prepare the RTX Spark PC
Confirm Windows and free space
- Open Settings > System > About and check that the edition is supported and the Windows version is 24H2 for Premiere Pro 26.x.
- Open Settings > Windows Update, install available updates, and restart. Do this before installing the NVIDIA driver so a pending system update does not interrupt the driver setup.
- In Settings > System > Storage, confirm enough free space for Creative Cloud, both applications, cache growth and temporary export files. Adobe does not specify a single universal free-space number in the requirements cited here; leave practical headroom rather than filling the system drive.
- Connect or install the second high-speed drive that will hold Premiere media. Keep the Windows and application drive separate from large camera originals, previews and exports when possible.
Check DirectX and GPU memory
Press Win+R, enter dxdiag, and inspect the Display tab. Confirm DirectX 12 support and the reported feature level. In Task Manager > Performance > GPU, note dedicated GPU memory. Compare that value with Adobe’s 4 GB minimum and 8 GB recommendation for Premiere and the 1.5 GB minimum for Photoshop.
Back up working projects
Before changing drivers or moving cache folders, close Adobe applications and back up project files, presets, custom workspaces and irreplaceable media. A driver update normally preserves application data, but a rollback or clean installation is easier when project and preference files are backed up.

Install the NVIDIA Studio Driver
For a workstation used primarily for Photoshop and Premiere, choose the latest NVIDIA Studio Driver rather than relying on a driver delivered only through Windows Update. Adobe’s June 17, 2026 guidance recommends the latest Studio Driver for supported NVIDIA GPUs. NVIDIA says Studio Drivers undergo extensive testing with multi-application creator workflows and multiple revisions of major creative applications.
- Open NVIDIA’s official driver-download page and select the RTX Spark product and your exact Windows edition. Choose the current Studio Driver, not a Game Ready package, when stability across creative applications is the priority.
- Download the installer, close Photoshop, Premiere Pro, browsers using GPU acceleration, and other GPU-intensive programs.
- Run the installer. If it offers an installation-choice screen, use the default Studio components unless you have a specific reason to omit them. A clean-install option can help after a corrupted or conflicting driver, but it also resets driver-level customizations.
- Restart Windows even if the installer does not insist on a reboot.
- Open NVIDIA App or NVIDIA Control Panel and confirm the installed driver version. The exact utility label can vary by driver release.
- Launch Premiere Pro and open Help > System Compatibility Report. Resolve any NVIDIA driver warning shown there before judging performance.
Adobe notes that Premiere upgrades can require updated video drivers. When Premiere, Photoshop or Windows is upgraded, repeat the compatibility check instead of assuming an older driver remains ideal.
Install Creative Cloud, Photoshop and Premiere Pro
- Download and install the Creative Cloud desktop application from Adobe.
- Sign in with the Adobe ID that owns the required subscription or license. Premiere activation requires an internet connection and an Adobe ID.
- In Creative Cloud, open the Apps section, find Photoshop and select Install. After it finishes, install Premiere Pro the same way.
- Allow each application to complete its first launch. Do not open a large project until the applications have created their preference and cache folders.
- In Creative Cloud’s application settings, decide whether updates are automatic or manually controlled. Keeping applications current is important for RTX Spark support, but schedule updates between projects and retain backups of production projects.
If installation stops, first verify the Adobe ID, internet connection, available disk space and Windows version. A blocked sign-in or a nearly full system drive can look like an application fault even when the GPU is working correctly.

Configure Premiere Pro for the RTX GPU
Select GPU acceleration
- Open Premiere Pro and choose File > Project Settings > General.
- Under Video Rendering and Playback, open the Renderer menu.
- Select the NVIDIA GPU-accelerated renderer offered by your installation, rather than a software-only renderer. The precise wording can vary by Premiere release; the important distinction is GPU acceleration versus software-only processing.
- Select OK, save the project, close and reopen it if Premiere requests a restart.
GPU acceleration allows supported effects, color operations, rendering and some AI features to use the RTX processor. It does not make every third-party plug-in or every codec GPU accelerated.

Enable hardware decoding and encoding
In Edit > Preferences > Media, review the hardware-accelerated decoding option when it is available. During export, open the format’s encoding settings and choose hardware encoding when Premiere presents that option for the selected codec. Adobe documents GPU use for decoding, rendering, export and AI features, but support depends on the codec, container, bit depth and effect stack.
Test the setting with a short section of a real project. Check image quality, audio sync, GPU utilization and export time before committing to a long delivery. If a particular codec produces artifacts or an export failure with hardware encoding, switch that export to software encoding and isolate the problematic clip or effect.
Place cache, media and exports deliberately
- Keep Premiere and its media cache on the fast internal SSD where possible.
- Store camera originals, project media and large preview files on a separate high-speed drive, as Adobe recommends.
- Use Edit > Preferences > Media Cache to review the cache location and remove unused cache files when the drive approaches capacity.
- Keep active project files and autosaves in a backed-up location rather than on a removable drive that may disconnect.
- Export to a drive with enough free space for the complete file and temporary files; an export can fail even when the final destination appears to have room.
Match the sequence to the footage
Set the sequence frame rate, frame size and color-management choices to match the delivery requirement before adding heavy effects. Lowering playback resolution can improve editing responsiveness without changing export quality. For footage that is too demanding for real-time playback, create proxies or render previews, then confirm that the full-resolution media is restored before export.

Configure Photoshop for RTX Spark
Confirm GPU recognition
- Open Photoshop and choose Edit > Preferences > Performance.
- Under Graphics Processor Settings, verify that Photoshop identifies the RTX GPU.
- Enable Use Graphics Processor when available. Open the advanced graphics settings only if a Photoshop feature or plug-in requires a specific mode.
- Close and reopen Photoshop if it asks for a restart, then test zooming, canvas rotation, a large filter and any neural or AI feature you use regularly.
If the GPU is not listed, confirm the Studio Driver, DirectX feature level 12_0 and Windows updates first. A supported GPU can still be hidden after a failed driver installation or when Photoshop has disabled acceleration because of a previous crash.

Set a fast scratch disk
Photoshop uses scratch space when documents exceed available RAM. In Edit > Preferences > Scratch Disks, select a fast SSD with substantial free space. Do not use a nearly full system partition as the only scratch disk. Keep the scratch volume separate from Premiere’s constantly growing media cache when possible so simultaneous workloads do not compete for the same free space.
Choose document sizes realistically
Photoshop’s 8 GB minimum is suitable only for modest work. Use 16 GB or more when working with large canvases, many layers, 16-bit images, panoramas or AI-assisted operations. Close unused documents and applications when a task approaches the system’s memory limit. If Photoshop reports that the scratch disk is full, reduce open-document load, purge unneeded history states, clear cache files safely and move the scratch disk to a roomier SSD.

Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Keep performance stable over time
Update in a controlled order
Install Windows updates, Adobe updates and NVIDIA Studio Driver updates regularly, but not in the middle of a delivery. After an update, open one known project, run a short playback and export test, and inspect Premiere’s System Compatibility Report. Keep the previous driver installer available so you can roll back if a new release introduces a project-specific problem.
Best Value
Watch temperature and power behavior
Long exports and AI operations can sustain high GPU and CPU load. Ensure the RTX Spark PC has unobstructed airflow and that the fans are not clogged. If performance starts high and then drops, compare GPU utilization, clock behavior and temperatures with a short repeatable test. A thermal limit or a storage bottleneck can look like a driver problem.
Prevent storage contention
Do not let Premiere’s media cache, Photoshop scratch files and Windows temporary files consume the last few gigabytes on one drive. Review cache locations monthly, archive completed projects, and leave free space on both the application SSD and media drive. A fast interface cannot compensate for a drive that is full or being saturated by several simultaneous transfers.
Troubleshooting common failures
Premiere shows software-only rendering
- Open File > Project Settings > General and reselect the NVIDIA GPU-accelerated renderer.
- Check the Studio Driver in NVIDIA’s control utility and restart Windows.
- Run Help > System Compatibility Report and follow any driver or operating-system warning.
- Test a new empty project. If acceleration works there, the original project may contain an incompatible plug-in, effect or damaged project setting.
Playback stutters despite a capable GPU
- Confirm that media and cache are on the intended high-speed drives, not a slow external disk or a nearly full SSD.
- Lower playback resolution or generate proxies for difficult 4K, RAW or multicam footage.
- Check RAM use and close Photoshop, browsers and other memory-heavy applications.
- Temporarily disable a heavy effect to identify whether the bottleneck is an effect rather than decoding.
Hardware export fails or produces artifacts
- Export a short section with hardware encoding disabled. If the software export succeeds, the issue is limited to the hardware path, codec or effect combination.
- Update Premiere and the Studio Driver if either is behind the supported release.
- Render the problem section or replace a suspect plug-in, then retest with the original settings.
- Use software encoding for the affected delivery when reliability matters more than speed.
Photoshop cannot use the RTX GPU
- Verify Preferences > Performance and the Use Graphics Processor setting.
- Confirm DirectX 12 feature level 12_0 and install the current NVIDIA Studio Driver.
- Reset Photoshop preferences only after backing up custom settings and actions.
- If acceleration repeatedly causes crashes, disable the advanced graphics option, retest, and report the behavior with the exact Photoshop and driver versions.
Activation or installation is blocked
- Confirm that Creative Cloud is signed in with the Adobe ID holding the license.
- Check the internet connection and system date and time.
- Free space on the installation drive and retry the install from Creative Cloud.
- Restart after Windows or driver updates before attempting another activation.
Validate the setup with a repeatable test
Do not judge optimization from a single opening animation. Use a short, representative project and record the conditions.
- Choose a Premiere sequence that contains the codecs, resolution, color work, transitions and AI effects you normally use. For Photoshop, choose a document with the typical pixel dimensions, bit depth, layers and filters.
- Record Windows version, Photoshop or Premiere version, NVIDIA Studio Driver version, RAM, GPU memory and the drive locations for cache, media and scratch space.
- In Premiere, confirm the GPU-accelerated renderer, then test playback and a short export with hardware decoding and encoding enabled where supported.
- Repeat the export with software encoding only if you need a baseline or encounter an error. Do not present the difference as a general benchmark; it applies only to that project and configuration.
- In Photoshop, test zoom, canvas rotation, a large filter and the AI features you actually use, watching for crashes, visual corruption or disabled GPU warnings.
- Save the working settings and keep the test project for future driver or application updates.
Adobe and NVIDIA’s “up to 2x” statement for RTX Spark describes a possible maximum across selected AI, editing, color and effects workflows. Your repeatable project is the appropriate way to determine whether a particular update improves your own work.
