RSR is a driver feature; it is not the same as game-integrated FidelityFX Super Resolution (FSR).
Check that your PC meets RSR’s requirements
AMD’s configuration guide specifies a Windows 10 or Windows 11 desktop PC, a discrete Radeon RX 5000-series GPU or later (or a select AMD Advantage system), and a full installation of AMD Software: Adrenalin Edition 22.7.1 or later. The full-package requirement matters: installing only a driver may not provide the AMD Software controls used to configure RSR. See AMD’s RSR configuration guide for its current setup details.
Check your GPU model and Windows version, then install the full Adrenalin package if needed. AMD’s product page lists an older minimum driver version, but the later, setup-specific configuration guide requires 22.7.1 or later; use the configuration guide’s threshold for this walkthrough.
Turn on RSR in AMD Software
- Open AMD Software: Adrenalin Edition.
- Enter Graphics in the software’s search field and open Graphics Settings.
- Under Global Graphics, switch Radeon Super Resolution on.
AMD says enabling RSR also enables GPU Scaling. The screen may go blank briefly while the setting is applied. To configure one game rather than the global profile, open Gaming > Games, select the game’s application profile, and adjust RSR there. Menu labels or availability can vary with the system and software configuration. AMD’s illustrated controls use Adrenalin 25.6.1 Full Install and an RX 9070, so their appearance may differ from an RX 5000 system.

Set the game resolution and display mode
RSR only upscales when the game renders at a resolution lower than the monitor’s native resolution. Choose a lower resolution in the game’s video or display settings; RSR scales that image toward the display’s native resolution. If the game renders at native resolution, there is no lower-resolution image for RSR to upscale.
Use a supported full-screen mode. AMD’s product page emphasizes exclusive full screen, while its newer configuration guide also describes borderless full-screen behavior. If RSR does not activate in your chosen mode, try the game’s exclusive full-screen option and check AMD’s configuration guide.

Choose between RSR and in-game FSR
RSR is enabled through the graphics driver and can work with games that do not include a dedicated upscaler, subject to the hardware and display-mode requirements. FSR is integrated into games by their developers, and support depends on the specific title and FSR version. If a game offers built-in FSR, AMD recommends using that game-specific implementation rather than RSR; do not enable both upscalers for the same game, since stacking them adds processing and may reduce image quality. AMD explains the distinction on its RSR product page.
RX 5000 compatibility with RSR does not mean every FSR feature is supported. AMD’s technology page lists RX 5000-series and later GPUs for FSR 3 frame generation, and RX 590 and later for FSR 3 upscaling; these are different feature requirements. The page also distinguishes newer machine-learning-based FSR upscaling from FSR 3. Check AMD’s FSR Technologies page and the game’s own options for the specific version and feature you intend to use.

Troubleshoot when RSR does not appear to work
- RSR is missing in AMD Software: Confirm that the full Adrenalin package is installed, that it is version 22.7.1 or later, and that the system has a supported GPU and Windows version.
- The game looks unchanged: Set the game’s render resolution below the monitor’s native resolution. RSR does not upscale a native-resolution render.
- The setting is enabled but inactive in-game: Test the game in exclusive full-screen mode. If you normally use borderless full screen, consult AMD’s configuration guide for the behavior described for your software setup.
- The game has its own FSR option: Use the in-game FSR implementation and turn off RSR for that title rather than stacking the two upscalers.
- Other graphics features turn off: This is expected when RSR is enabled. AMD says it automatically disables Radeon Chill, Radeon Image Sharpening, and Integer Scaling.
