For the documented launch integration, install NBA 2K27 on a GeForce RTX 50 Series PC or laptop, update to GeForce Game Ready Driver 616.64 WHQL or newer, restart so Streamline 2.14 or newer is available, then open Video Settings and enable DLSS Neural Rendering. DLSS 5 is not a universal switch in the NVIDIA app, and older DLSS support does not automatically give a game DLSS 5. At launch, NBA 2K27 was the confirmed local example. GeForce NOW Ultimate members in NVIDIA-operated regions have a separate cloud route using an RTX 5080-powered rig.
What DLSS 5 is—and what it is not
NVIDIA describes DLSS 5 as a real-time neural-rendering model. It takes a game’s color data and motion vectors for each frame, then uses an AI model to add lighting and material effects anchored to the game’s original 3D content. NVIDIA says the model analyzes scene semantics such as characters, hair, and fabric, while developers can control intensity, color grading, and masking.

That description comes from NVIDIA rather than an independent test. DLSS 5 is therefore best understood as a developer-integrated rendering feature, not a driver-level enhancement that can be forced into every title. A game may support older DLSS technologies—such as Super Resolution or Frame Generation—without supporting DLSS 5’s neural-rendering model.

Check support before changing drivers or settings
First establish whether the title has a working DLSS 5 integration. NVIDIA’s March 16, 2026 announcement listed numerous games planned for integration, but an announcement is not proof that the feature is live in a particular build. The launch documentation identifies NBA 2K27 as available on local RTX 50 Series systems and through the stated GeForce NOW service.
- Confirmed in the launch documentation: NBA 2K27.
- Announced for integration: AION 2, Assassin’s Creed Shadows, Black State, CINDER CITY, Delta Force, Hogwarts Legacy, Justice, NARAKA: BLADEPOINT, NTE: Neverness to Everness, Phantom Blade Zero, Resident Evil Requiem, Sea of Remnants, Starfield, The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered, Where Winds Meet, and other titles.
- Developer partners named by NVIDIA: Bethesda, CAPCOM, Hotta Studio, NetEase, NCSOFT, S-GAME, Tencent, Ubisoft, and Warner Bros. Games.
NVIDIA says more games will integrate DLSS 5 in the following weeks and months. Because rollout status can change with a patch, check a game’s current official release notes or NVIDIA’s latest announcement before treating any title other than NBA 2K27 as enabled. Do not install a mod or a third-party utility and call that vendor-supported DLSS 5.
Requirements for the local NBA 2K27 setup
| Requirement | Documented launch condition | What it means |
|---|---|---|
| Game | NBA 2K27 | The launch-confirmed example with the in-game DLSS Neural Rendering control. |
| Local GPU | GeForce RTX 50 Series | NVIDIA identifies RTX 50 Series PCs and laptops for the local integration. |
| Driver | GeForce Game Ready Driver 616.64 WHQL or newer | This is the documented launch minimum, not a claim that it is the newest driver in 2026. |
| Rendering middleware | Streamline 2.14 or newer | NVIDIA’s feature note lists this as a requirement; the September 3 note says Streamline is downloaded automatically after a reboot. |
| Game setting | Video Settings → DLSS Neural Rendering | This is the switch that activates the documented feature. |
NVIDIA’s FAQ search result says expansion to RTX 40 Series is planned after additional performance tuning. That is a roadmap statement, not confirmed current support. Until NVIDIA or the game developer publishes a supported RTX 40 build, treat RTX 50 Series as the documented local requirement.

1. Confirm that your copy and build are eligible
Install NBA 2K27 through your normal PC game store and let it finish updating. If you are attempting another title, look for a current release note that explicitly mentions DLSS 5 or Neural Rendering; a historical announcement alone is insufficient. A missing option is usually a compatibility or build issue, not a hidden NVIDIA-app setting.
2. Check the GPU model
For the documented local launch path, the computer must use a GeForce RTX 50 Series GPU, either in a desktop or laptop. On a laptop, make sure the game is running on the RTX adapter rather than an integrated graphics processor. Windows’ graphics preferences or the laptop manufacturer’s performance mode can affect which adapter a game selects.

3. Install the required Game Ready driver
- Open the NVIDIA app or NVIDIA’s official driver-download page.
- Install GeForce Game Ready Driver 616.64 WHQL or newer. NVIDIA’s September 3, 2026 feature note gives 616.64 as the launch minimum; do not interpret that number as the current driver for every system.
- Complete the installation and restart Windows. NVIDIA says Streamline 2.14 or newer is automatically downloaded to the system following a reboot.
If your driver installer offers a newer WHQL Game Ready package, use the newer package. The important checks are that the driver meets or exceeds the documented minimum and that the system is restarted afterward.
4. Launch the game and open the correct menu
- Start NBA 2K27.
- Open the game’s Video Settings menu.
- Find DLSS Neural Rendering and switch it on.
NVIDIA says the option can also be toggled during gameplay and replays with F9 on a keyboard. If the keyboard shortcut does nothing, return to Video Settings and use the menu control; a controller layout or a remapped keyboard can change shortcut behavior.
5. Configure the other DLSS controls separately
After enabling Neural Rendering, set DLSS Super Resolution, Frame Generation, and NVIDIA Reflex according to your latency and image-quality preferences. They are independent choices. For example, turning on Neural Rendering does not imply that Frame Generation is enabled, and changing the Super Resolution mode does not create DLSS 5 support in an unintegrated game.
6. Verify the result in a repeatable scene
Apply the setting, load a game scene with visible players, hair, uniforms, and arena lighting, and compare the result after the shaders and assets have finished loading. Use the same camera position and graphics settings when comparing on and off. A visual difference can vary by scene because the model acts on the game’s lighting and material content; an option that is present but produces little change in a particular view is not necessarily broken.
Use GeForce NOW instead of installing local hardware
NVIDIA documents a second route for NBA 2K27: GeForce NOW Ultimate members in NVIDIA-operated regions can stream the game from a GeForce RTX 5080-powered cloud rig. In this case, NVIDIA’s local RTX 50 Series, driver, and Streamline installation steps apply to the cloud host rather than your personal computer.

The evidence available for the launch period supports a careful distinction between available and announced. NBA 2K27 is the title NVIDIA identifies as available at launch. The following table records NVIDIA’s announcement status without turning planned integrations into current compatibility claims.
| Title or group | Status in NVIDIA’s launch material | How to use that information |
|---|---|---|
| NBA 2K27 | Available at launch on RTX 50 Series PCs and laptops; also documented for GeForce NOW Ultimate in NVIDIA-operated regions. | Use the local procedure in this article, or the documented cloud route. |
| AION 2; Assassin’s Creed Shadows; Black State; CINDER CITY; Delta Force; Hogwarts Legacy; Justice; NARAKA: BLADEPOINT; NTE: Neverness to Everness; Phantom Blade Zero; Resident Evil Requiem; Sea of Remnants; Starfield; The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered; Where Winds Meet | Announced for DLSS 5 integration on March 16, 2026. | Check the game’s current patch notes or a newer NVIDIA announcement before expecting an in-game switch. |
| Other titles and the named developer partners | Part of NVIDIA’s broader integration announcement. | No universal release date or current availability is established for every title. |
NVIDIA’s launch article says to watch for additional announcements as more titles integrate the technology. A game’s presence on the March list should therefore be read as a development or rollout signal, not as a guarantee that your installed version already contains the setting.
RTX 40 Series and other hardware questions
Can an RTX 40 Series card run DLSS 5?
NVIDIA’s indexed FAQ result says expansion to RTX 40 Series is planned after performance tuning. The reviewed launch instructions, however, specify RTX 50 Series for the local NBA 2K27 integration. Until an official update confirms an RTX 40 implementation and identifies the required driver or game build, do not assume that an RTX 40 card will expose DLSS Neural Rendering.
Will buying an RTX 50 Series card add DLSS 5 to any game?
No. The GPU is only one requirement. The developer must integrate the model into the game, and the installed build must include that integration. A new card cannot create the menu option in a title that has not implemented DLSS 5.

What if you do not own a compatible local GPU?
For NBA 2K27, the documented alternative is GeForce NOW Ultimate in an NVIDIA-operated region. The cloud option avoids installing an RTX 50 Series card locally, but it requires service eligibility and a suitable streaming connection. It does not establish support for every announced DLSS 5 title.

NVIDIA publishes high frame-rate examples for NBA 2K27 with Ultra settings and ray tracing. These are vendor-reported results for specified hardware and settings, not independent benchmarks or universal expectations.
| GPU | Reported resolution and setting | NVIDIA-published frame rate |
|---|---|---|
| GeForce RTX 5090 | 1440p, Ultra settings, ray tracing | Up to 590 FPS |
| GeForce RTX 5080 | 1440p, Ultra settings, ray tracing | Up to 410 FPS |
| GeForce RTX 5070 Ti | 1440p, Ultra settings, ray tracing | Up to 350 FPS |
| GeForce RTX 5070 | 1440p, Ultra settings, ray tracing | Up to 260 FPS |
| GeForce RTX 5090 | 4K, Ultra settings, ray tracing, full DLSS suite | Up to 370 FPS |
The figures are tied to NVIDIA’s stated game and configuration. They do not predict performance on another title, another patch, a different CPU, a laptop power limit, or a different DLSS combination. Use an identical scene and settings when evaluating your own system.
Troubleshoot a missing or ineffective DLSS Neural Rendering option
The option is not listed
- Confirm that you are running NBA 2K27 or another build with confirmed DLSS 5 integration; an announced future title may not have received its patch.
- Check that the local computer has a GeForce RTX 50 Series GPU for the documented launch path.
- Verify the Game Ready driver is 616.64 WHQL or newer and restart Windows after installation.
- Launch the game on the RTX adapter, especially on a laptop with switchable graphics.
- Install pending game updates and restart the game after the update completes.
The setting is greyed out or will not stay enabled
- Return to the game’s Video Settings and apply the change before leaving the menu.
- Close overlays or capture tools temporarily if they interfere with renderer initialization, then relaunch the game.
- Check whether the game is using a graphics API or display mode that limits the feature, and test the default supported mode before changing advanced options.
F9 does not toggle the feature
NVIDIA documents F9 for keyboard use during gameplay and replays. A remapped key, a laptop function-key layer, a controller-only session, or an active text-entry field can prevent the shortcut from reaching the game. Use the Video Settings menu to verify the state, then test F9 in a normal gameplay scene.

Visual results or frame rates differ from NVIDIA’s examples
NVIDIA’s numbers are “up to” vendor figures from particular hardware, resolution, Ultra settings, ray tracing, and DLSS combinations. Differences in CPU, memory, driver version, thermal limits, background applications, display resolution, and scene complexity can all change the result. Compare like-for-like settings instead of treating the published maximum as a baseline.
A safe procedure for any future DLSS 5 title
- Verify live support: read the title’s current official patch notes or a current NVIDIA announcement that identifies the integration as released, not merely planned.
- Record the supported hardware: note the GPU generation, operating-system requirements, and any game-specific restrictions. For the documented NBA 2K27 local launch, that means RTX 50 Series.
- Update the driver: install the game’s stated Game Ready driver or newer, then reboot.
- Update the game: allow the developer’s DLSS 5 integration patch to finish before searching for the setting.
- Find the game’s renderer menu: look under Video, Graphics, or Display settings for the exact label supplied by the developer. In NBA 2K27 it is DLSS Neural Rendering.
- Test and document: compare a repeatable scene with the feature on and off, while keeping resolution, ray tracing, Super Resolution, and Frame Generation settings recorded.
This workflow prevents the most common mistake: treating a list of announced integrations as if it were a universal compatibility list.
