For a full four-season makeover, start with The Living Continent – Seasons – Sky – Weather. It supports the next-generation game version 5.0 or newer, requires the DirectX 12 renderer and ReShade 6.8 or newer with full add-on support, and adds its controls at Options > Mods > The Living Continent. Installation is not just a Mods-folder copy: its archive contains both bin and Mods folders, and the required DX12 files must reach the game directory. If you want only a regional winter effect, the Skellige Winter Weather System is narrower; The Conjunction of the Seasons Climate and Nature Overhaul uses an external season selector and has broader vegetation conflicts.
Which seasonal mod fits your goal?
Seasonal mods for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt do not all change the game in the same way. Choose by geographic coverage, renderer requirements, switching method and conflicts with other environmental mods before downloading anything.

The Living Continent is the clearest choice when you want one system covering the Continent and its seasonal lighting, weather and vegetation. The other two are better when you want a focused regional effect or prefer manually selecting a season outside the running game.

Check the game build and renderer first
Do this before extracting a file. The Living Continent’s requirements are specific:
- Game: the next-generation release, version 5.0 or newer.
- Renderer: DirectX 12. The author explicitly states that DX11 is unsupported.
- ReShade: version 6.8 or newer, installed with full add-on support for
binx64_dx12witcher3.exe. - Effects and presets: none are required for this mod. ReShade is needed for its add-on support, not because you must install a visual preset.
If your game launches in DX11, changing files will not make the mod compatible. Switch the game to its DX12 executable and verify that the ReShade add-on installation targets the DX12 path shown above. Requirements and package contents can change, so read the current requirements and files on the mod’s page immediately before installation.
Install The Living Continent step by step
1. Prepare the installation
Close the game and any mod manager that may be deploying files. Locate the main game directory—the folder that contains the game’s existing bin and Mods directories. Confirm that the DX12 executable is at binx64_dx12witcher3.exe. Install ReShade 6.8 or newer with full add-on support for that executable before launching the mod.
2. Download the current archive
Download the latest archive listed on the mod’s page and follow the current file and requirements notes there. Do not assume an older archive has the same folder layout or dependencies.
3. Merge both top-level folders
Open the archive. It contains a bin folder and a Mods folder. Copy both into the game’s installation directory and allow the operating system to merge folders and overwrite files when prompted. The result must place the mod’s DX12 files under the game’s binx64_dx12 tree and its mod files under the game’s Mods tree.

Copying only Mods is the most common incomplete installation. The missing bin files can prevent the add-on and options page from loading even though the mod appears to be present.
4. Account for your mod manager
- The Witcher 3 Mod Manager: the mod page warns that this manager copies only the
Modsfolder. After installing through it, manually copy the four files inbinx64_dx12and the options-page file required by the mod’s instructions. - Vortex or Mod Organizer 2: the author reports that these managers install the complete archive. Check the deployment or virtual-file result anyway and confirm that both folder trees are available to the game.
- Manual extraction: merge both folders directly into the game directory, then add the mod to your manager if you use one for load-order control. A manually extracted mod may not appear in a manager’s load order until it is explicitly added or reinstalled through that manager.
5. Start the game and open the mod page
Launch the DX12 version, open Options > Mods > The Living Continent, and set the seasonal options. The page is also where you can adjust the quick-panel key and other controls.
Configure seasons, regions and daylight
Regional seasonal strength
The Living Continent exposes a separate seasonal-strength choice for each supported region. The available levels are Off, Mild, Normal and Strong. Use the regional controls when you want, for example, a pronounced winter in one area but a subtler transition elsewhere. Setting a region to Off removes that region’s seasonal effect without requiring you to uninstall the project.
Seasonal daylight
Seasonal daylight is a separate setting in the same options page. Enable or disable it according to whether you want the season to influence the length and character of daylight in addition to vegetation and weather.
The quick panel
By default, the quick panel opens with Numpad 0. It provides quick access to the date, season, time, weather and related toggles. You can change its key binding in the mod’s options. If your keyboard has no numeric keypad, rebind the control before relying on the panel.

Clouds, lunar eclipses and HDR
- Turning off the game’s cloud layer or using another cloud mod can affect lunar eclipses.
- With HDR enabled, the game keeps its own night image rather than applying the mod’s darker-night effect.
These are presentation interactions rather than installation failures. If a night or eclipse looks different from the mod’s screenshots, check cloud settings and HDR before changing files.

The author says the mod can still run with default settings when its options-page file is missing. First check that you copied the required options file and the complete bin tree. Also remember that the game can open only about 230 options across all mod pages combined. A large mod list can therefore prevent this or another mod’s page from opening even when the files are installed correctly.
Install The Conjunction of the Seasons
This overhaul uses a different workflow from The Living Continent. It is described as semi-dynamic: the world changes seasonally, but you select the desired season with the icons included in the download.
- Install the archive according to its current page instructions.
- Close the game completely before changing seasons.
- Open the supplied season icons and select the icon for the season you want.
- Start the game and inspect areas containing trees, grasses, billboards and other vegetation.
The author recommends giving this project priority when it is used with mods that alter trees, grasses or billboards. Those edits can overlap at the same records and may be incompatible, so do not assume that a script merge will make every combination safe. The page also notes that the project begins in autumn and that some regional winter work was still in progress in the material reviewed; check the current regional coverage before planning a playthrough around a specific winter appearance.
Install the Skellige Winter Weather System
Choose this option when your target is winter weather in Skellige rather than a four-season overhaul across the entire game.

- Install the mod’s files using your chosen manager or its manual instructions.
- Run The Witcher 3 Script Merger and give the Skellige Winter Weather System the highest priority as directed by its author.
- Do not merge its CSV. Leave that file according to the mod’s instructions instead of combining it with another weather CSV.
- Remove or disable other Skellige weather codes that overlap its systems. Competing weather CSVs can stop the winter system from working.
- If you installed it during an existing playthrough, load your save and meditate through the menu for around half a day to trigger its weather patterns.
The author says it can be combined with lighting mods, but a lighting mod does not eliminate conflicts with another weather overhaul. Keep one source in control of overlapping Skellige weather codes.

Run Script Merger where required
Script Merger is a conflict-resolution step for mods that edit the same scripts. Follow each mod’s priority instruction rather than applying a universal rule: The Skellige Winter Weather System requires highest priority and says not to merge its CSV, while The Conjunction of the Seasons calls for priority when tree, grass or billboard edits overlap.
Make sure the manager knows about every mod
A mod copied manually into the game directory may work on disk but remain absent from a manager’s load order. The Vortex guidance recommends adding the mod to mod.settings or reinstalling it through the manager, then refreshing or deploying so the manager records the installation. An apparently empty load-order entry is not proof that the archive is missing; it may simply have been installed outside the manager’s tracked workflow.
Separate files from conflicts
- If a mod never appears in the options menu, check its options-page file and the total number of mod options first.
- If the menu appears but vegetation or weather is wrong, investigate overlapping tree, grass, billboard or weather edits and the required priority.
- If the game uses the wrong renderer, return to the DX12 requirement before changing load order.
Troubleshoot the most common failures
The Living Continent is invisible in the options menu
- Confirm the game is the next-generation version 5.0 or newer.
- Confirm you launched DX12, not DX11.
- Check that the options-page file was copied with the archive.
- Check whether the game has reached its approximately 230-option limit across all mod pages.
- If you used The Witcher 3 Mod Manager, manually copy its required four
binx64_dx12files and the options file.
The mod may still run with defaults when only the options page is missing, so a missing menu does not necessarily mean every seasonal file failed.
The game launches, but seasonal effects do not appear
- Verify ReShade 6.8 or newer was installed with full add-on support for
binx64_dx12witcher3.exe. - Verify both
binandModswere merged into the actual game directory. - Check that another cloud, weather, vegetation or billboard mod is not overriding the same content.
- Open the mod’s options page and confirm the relevant region is not set to Off.
Skellige remains unchanged
Check the Skellige mod’s Script Merger priority, remove competing Skellige weather codes, and confirm that its CSV was not merged. For a mid-game installation, load the save and meditate for around half a day through the menu so its patterns can begin.
A manager says the mod is not installed
Manually extracted files are not always registered by a manager. Add the installation to mod.settings or install it through the manager, then refresh and deploy. Recheck the manager’s load order after deployment.
Night scenes or eclipses look different
Check whether the game’s cloud layer was disabled, another cloud mod is active, or HDR is enabled. The Living Continent’s darker-night effect is not used in the same way when HDR keeps the game’s own night image, and cloud changes can affect lunar eclipses.
A practical installation checklist
- Record the exact game version and launch in DX12.
- Install every requirement named by the selected mod, including ReShade 6.8+ full add-on support for The Living Continent.
- Copy every top-level folder in the archive, not only
Mods. - Use the manager-specific procedure for
binfiles and options pages. - Open the in-game mod page and set regional strength, daylight and the quick-panel key.
- For The Conjunction of the Seasons, change seasons with its icons while the game is closed and check vegetation conflicts.
- For Skellige Winter Weather System, use highest Script Merger priority, do not merge its CSV and avoid overlapping Skellige weather codes.
- Refresh or deploy your manager so manually installed files appear in its load order.
- If a menu is missing, check the options-page file and the approximately 230-option limit before reinstalling everything.
Which setup should you use?
Use The Living Continent when you want the broadest, most configurable seasonal treatment and can run the next-generation DX12 game with the required ReShade add-on. Use The Conjunction of the Seasons when an external season selector and semi-dynamic environmental changes suit your setup, provided you can avoid overlapping vegetation edits. Use Skellige Winter Weather System when you want a focused Skellige winter and are willing to follow its strict priority and CSV rules.
