First, identify which Skyrim content you mean
The phrase “new Skyrim DLC” is easy to misunderstand because two different products are involved:

- The PS5 next-generation upgrade: a free upgrade for owners of Skyrim Special Edition or Skyrim Anniversary Edition on PS5. Bethesda says it optimizes the game with enhanced graphics and faster loading.
- The Anniversary Upgrade: a paid add-on for Special Edition owners who want the additional Creation Club content associated with Anniversary Edition.
Bethesda’s FAQ places Anniversary Edition’s launch on November 11, 2021. Its current Skyrim Anniversary page, accessed October 13, 2026, describes the package as containing more than 500 pieces of Creation Club content and shows an August 20, 2026 update notice. Before you install: confirm your ownership
Check the edition attached to the PlayStation account you plan to use before downloading anything. A digital Special Edition, a digital Anniversary Edition and a physical PS4 disc can have different entitlements. The free PS5 upgrade applies to owners of Special Edition or Anniversary Edition, but the exact offer shown for a disc depends on the product, region and account.
- Sign in to the account that purchased the game or normally uses the qualifying disc.
- Read the product name in your library or store page so you do not confuse Special Edition with Anniversary Edition.
- If you own a disc, keep the disc available for verification and check its region before assuming that a digital PS5 license will appear.
- Decide whether you want only the improved PS5 game or also the paid Anniversary Creation Club bundle.
This check prevents the most common purchasing mistake: paying for the Anniversary Upgrade when your actual problem is locating the free PS5 version, or buying the complete Anniversary Edition when you already own Special Edition and only need the optional content.

The current US listing is The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Anniversary Edition – PS5 & PS4. Use your own regional storefront for the price you will actually pay. Bethesda’s FAQ listed a USD $19.99 Anniversary Upgrade price at launch in 2021; that is historical launch MSRP, not a current quote.
Install the free PS5 game upgrade
Owners of Special Edition or Anniversary Edition do not buy a second PS5 license solely to receive the next-generation version. Bethesda states that the upgrade is free for eligible owners. The exact library and store labels can change, so use the PS5 version associated with the edition already linked to your PlayStation account.
- Confirm ownership. Make sure the PlayStation account currently signed in is the account that owns the digital game or has the relevant disc license.
- Locate the PS5 version. In your game library or the PlayStation Store, select the Skyrim edition you own and choose the PS5 version when the console presents multiple versions. Do not assume that installing a PS4 copy means the PS5 build is already installed.
- Install or launch the eligible version. If the console offers a free PS5 upgrade, accept it rather than purchasing another full game. Bethesda’s FAQ describes this as the next-generation game upgrade, separate from Anniversary content.
- Start Skyrim and check the main menu. If you own only Special Edition and want Anniversary content, continue with the in-game purchase route below.
Bethesda’s cited material confirms the entitlement but does not provide a current, screen-by-screen PS5 download path. If the free option is not shown, verify the account, edition, region and disc eligibility before paying again; then consult PlayStation or Bethesda support.
Buy Anniversary content from an existing Special Edition copy
Bethesda gives a specific route for Special Edition owners. It is the most direct way to buy the Anniversary Upgrade without replacing the base game.
- Launch Skyrim and wait for the main menu.
- Select “Available Now: Skyrim Anniversary Upgrade!” Bethesda says this opens the store on the relevant platform.
- Review the Anniversary Upgrade listing, the account being charged and the price displayed for your region.
- Complete the purchase in the PlayStation Store.
- Return to the game and use PlayStation’s add-on management area for Skyrim to review the Anniversary content associated with the purchase.
The quoted menu wording comes from Bethesda Support’s Anniversary Edition instructions. The support article does not state a universal PS5 sequence for pressing buttons after checkout, so do not treat a different label or layout as evidence that the purchase failed.

Install the digital Anniversary Edition
If you do not already own Special Edition, the digital Anniversary Edition is the simplest all-in-one purchase. The PlayStation Store listing identifies it as a PS4/PS5 product and lists the base Special Edition, the three official expansions and Creation Club content.
- Open your regional PlayStation Store and search for the Skyrim Anniversary Edition listing.
- Check that the product page identifies the PS5 version, or the PS4/PS5 entitlement you intend to use.
- Review the included items before purchasing: Special Edition, Dawnguard, Hearthfire, Dragonborn and Creation Club content.
- Buy and download the edition through the account that will play it.
- Launch the installed PS5 version. If individual Anniversary items are not available, open the game’s platform add-on management area and check the entitlement status.
Because storefront layouts, bundles and prices are regional and can change, rely on the live product page rather than the 2021 FAQ’s launch price. The official listing is the source for the currently displayed bundle configuration in the US store.
Use the physical PS4 Anniversary Edition carefully
Bethesda’s FAQ documents a physical PS4 Anniversary Edition. It is not a PS5 disc edition. The included Creation Club material must be redeemed and downloaded over the internet, so a disc alone is not the whole installation.
- Confirm that the retailer’s copy is the Anniversary Edition rather than an ordinary Special Edition disc.
- Check your country’s store and disc region. Bethesda’s general FAQ does not guarantee one universal PS5 upgrade path for every physical copy and region.
- Insert the disc, install the game and connect the console to the internet so the included Creation Club content can be redeemed and downloaded.
- Before opening the package, verify the exact PS5 entitlement shown for that product in your region. A PS4 disc should not be described as a PS5 disc.
The physical route is useful when you want ownership of a disc, but the digital listing can make the PS5 entitlement and included items easier to verify before checkout.
What Anniversary Edition includes
The three official expansions
The PlayStation Store listing names these add-ons as part of Anniversary Edition:
- Dawnguard
- Hearthfire
- Dragonborn
They are included alongside the Special Edition game. They are not three newly released PS5 add-ons; they are the established official expansions bundled into Anniversary Edition.
Creation Club content
Bethesda’s current Anniversary page describes more than 500 unique pieces of Creation Club content. That category is the principal reason a Special Edition owner would pay for the Anniversary Upgrade. The exact availability of individual creations can depend on the edition, account entitlement and platform store.

The “over 500” figure describes the collection as a whole, not 500 separate PS5 expansions released in 2026. Creation Club items are presented as optional content attached to the Anniversary entitlement, so seeing many individual entries in the add-on area does not mean you were charged separately for each one.

What is not established
The official pages cited here do not identify a brand-new Skyrim expansion released for PS5 in 2026. They also do not provide a current PS5 screenshot sequence for downloading every individual creation, so this guide does not invent one.
What changes after you buy the Anniversary Upgrade
The paid upgrade changes the content entitlement, not the basic distinction between the PS4 and PS5 game builds. You still need to install or select the eligible PS5 version separately when the console offers multiple versions. Buying the bundle does not by itself prove that every item is installed; the platform add-on area is where you check the game-specific content associated with the account.
If you purchased from the in-game menu, confirm that the checkout used the same PlayStation account that owns the base game. A successful payment on a different account can leave the playing account unable to see the content. If you use a disc, leave the qualifying disc available when checking ownership, and do not assume that a used copy or an imported disc has the same regional entitlement as a local purchase.
Manage, enable or remove Anniversary content
Bethesda Support says Anniversary Edition content on PlayStation is managed through the platform’s add-on menu. Use that area when you need to confirm whether purchased content is installed or when you want to control optional creations.

- Launch Skyrim again and check whether the selected content is available.
There is an important PlayStation limitation: Bethesda says the Anniversary Edition Upgrade itself cannot be uninstalled. If you need to remove specific content, its support guidance says that you may have to uninstall Skyrim, reinstall it and choose which content to use during setup. Treat that as a last resort because it removes the game installation; keep saved-game backups according to your normal PlayStation practice.

How to troubleshoot missing content
The free PS5 upgrade is asking for payment
- Check that you are signed in to the account that owns Special Edition or Anniversary Edition.
- Verify that the installed product is the eligible edition, not an unrelated trial or a different regional license.
- If you use a disc, confirm the disc region and the PS5 eligibility shown for that product.
- Do not buy the Anniversary Upgrade merely to solve a PS5-version entitlement prompt; the paid upgrade adds Anniversary content and is separate from the free next-generation game upgrade.
The Anniversary Upgrade was purchased but content is not visible
- Open the game’s PlayStation add-on management area and review the entitlement.
- Confirm that the game and the purchase use the same PlayStation account.
- Check that the PS5 version you launched corresponds to the purchased edition.
- If the entitlement remains absent, contact Bethesda or PlayStation support with the transaction and account details. The cited official pages do not establish a universal fix for account mismatches or server problems.
You want to stop using a creation
Use the platform add-on menu to disable the individual content where that option is offered. Do not expect the Anniversary Upgrade package itself to appear as a removable PS5 add-on; Bethesda says that package cannot be uninstalled independently.
The physical copy will not provide the expected content
Connect the console to the internet for redemption and download, then recheck the disc region and the exact product edition. If the retailer’s description does not clearly establish PS5 eligibility, ask the retailer or platform support before assuming the disc includes a free PS5 entitlement.

Once you separate the free PS5 game upgrade from the paid Anniversary content, the installation decision is straightforward: use your existing edition’s PS5 entitlement, buy the Anniversary Upgrade only when you want its Creation Club bundle, and manage the resulting add-ons through PlayStation’s game-specific add-on area.
