If an update is available, follow the prompts; your phone may restart while it installs. Menu labels and update availability can differ by model, software version, country, and carrier.
Check for and install an update from your phone
- Open Settings.
- Tap Software update. On some devices or software versions, the menu may instead be called System updates.
- Tap Download and install. If prompted, tap the available check option, such as Check for updates, Check for software updates, or Check for system updates.
- If an update is offered, follow the on-screen instructions to download and install it. The phone may restart during installation.
Samsung’s software-update instructions describe this manual check and note that wording can vary. The phone guides you through installation when an update is available.

Confirm the installed software version
After installation, open Settings > About phone > Software information. This page can show the One UI version, Android version, and build number. Samsung’s One UI guidance explains where to check software details; its availability information is for devices sold in Canada.

A “software is up to date” message means no update is currently being offered to that phone through the check. It does not mean every Fold or Flip has the same security patch. Samsung says release timing and eligibility can vary by model, country or region, and network operator; schedules can also change or be paused. Its One UI update schedule guidance cautions that availability varies by model and carrier.

- Confirm the exact model and installed build at Settings > About phone > Software information.
- Check Samsung Members for One UI release information relevant to your device.
- If you expect an update but it is not offered, check again later. A staged rollout may not reach all eligible phones at once.
There is no universal battery percentage, storage threshold, or Wi-Fi speed established for every Z Fold and Z Flip model in Samsung’s general update instructions, so do not assume one fixed requirement applies to all generations.
Use Smart Switch as an alternative
Samsung says Smart Switch on a PC or Mac may show an option to update the phone when a newer software version is available. Connect the phone and check Smart Switch for an offered update; this is an alternative, not a required step, and the option may not appear for every model, region, or connection setup. See Samsung’s Smart Switch software-update guidance. The available instructions do not establish that Smart Switch is always faster or more reliable than updating from the phone.

What automatic updates mean on a Z Fold6
The Galaxy Z Fold6 manual for model SM-F956B describes an Auto download over Wi-Fi setting and a Last update item in the Software update menu. It also says certain emergency security updates may install automatically. That behavior is documented for this manual and should not be assumed to apply identically to every Fold or Flip generation.
