How to Install a Jetpack Mod in GTA 5 Safely (Legacy and Enhanced)

The safe way to install a jetpack mod in GTA 5 is to use the Windows PC version in Story Mode, match the mod to your GTA V edition and build, back up the installation, add only the loaders the mod actually requires, and keep every modded file away from GTA Online. Install and test one component at a time so a failed launch can be reversed without repairing the entire game.

Two commonly referenced options have different dependency chains. Jetpack SP adds the Mammoth Thruster from GTA Online’s Doomsday Heist to single-player and lists the latest Script Hook V, ScriptHookVDotNet and NativeUI as requirements. JetPack Mod [.NET] requires GTA V version 1.42 or newer because earlier versions do not contain the jetpack model. Always read the specific download’s current readme before copying files.

Check compatibility before downloading anything

Jetpack mods are not interchangeable with every GTA V installation. First establish which edition and build you have, then select a release that names that edition and build as supported.

Windows PC and Story Mode are required

These instructions apply to the Windows PC edition of Grand Theft Auto V. Console versions do not accept this type of file-based script installation. The modded setup is for single-player Story Mode only; it must not be used to enter GTA Online.

Legacy versus Enhanced

Current mod guides treat GTA V Legacy and GTA V Enhanced as separate mod targets. A script or archive built for one edition may fail to load, show missing models, or prevent the game from starting in the other. Do not infer compatibility from the mod’s name alone. Look for an explicit Legacy or Enhanced label and a minimum game build in the author’s description.

The JetPack Mod [.NET] page on GTA5-Mods.com states the 1.42-or-newer requirement. Jetpack SP’s listing identifies Script Hook V, ScriptHookVDotNet and NativeUI as requirements. Treat those statements as requirements for those particular releases, not as a universal checklist for every jetpack download.

Choose a jetpack package with a reversible installation

Before downloading, compare the package’s supported edition and build, dependency chain, file type and removal instructions. A script-only package is usually easier to undo than one that replaces archives, but a model or texture package may need OpenIV and a separate mods folder.

Download from the mod author’s page or a recognized project page such as GTA5-Mods.com, and obtain dependencies from their official release pages. Scan archives before opening them. Reject repacked executables, “cracks,” password-protected downloads with unexplained contents and packages that ask you to disable security software.

Back up the game before changing files

A backup is your fastest recovery method. Keep it outside the GTA V directory so a launcher repair or an accidental overwrite cannot destroy both copies.

1. Close GTA V and its launcher.
2. Open the folder containing GTA5.exe. This is the installation folder used by the game, not necessarily the folder containing your save files.
3. Copy the original game folder, or at minimum preserve all unmodified files that the mod instructions identify, plus your save-game folder.
4. Create a separate note containing the date, game edition, build number, downloaded package names and every file you install.
5. Where practical, maintain a clean installation for online play and a separate modded installation or profile for Story Mode.

Do not overwrite original archives merely to save time. A clean copy and a written file list make removal deliberate rather than a guessing exercise.

Install Script Hook V correctly

Script Hook V is the library that lets custom ASI plugins call GTA V’s native script functions. The Script Hook V listing describes the current release as version 3889.0/1158.13 and records an update date of July 15, 2026. That version number is not a promise that it supports every later game update; use the release whose supported build matches your installed GTA V build.

Files to copy

The current listing identifies two files for the normal ASI setup:

• ScriptHookV.dll, the Script Hook V library.
• dinput8.dll, the ASI loader.

Copy both files beside GTA5.exe, not into an arbitrary Windows system folder. If the download contains a native trainer or sample plugin, leave it out unless you intentionally want it; it is not required for a jetpack mod.

Installation steps

1. Download the Script Hook V release that supports your installed GTA V build and edition.
2. Extract the archive to a temporary folder and inspect its readme.
3. Copy ScriptHookV.dll and dinput8.dll into the folder containing GTA5.exe.
4. Keep the original files in your backup and record the two new filenames in your installation note.
5. Launch Story Mode once before adding the jetpack. If the game does not start, remove the two files and obtain a build-matched release instead of forcing an older or newer one.

Script Hook V’s listing explicitly says it does not work in GTA Online and closes GTA V when multiplayer is entered. That behavior is a safety boundary, not a way to make online modding acceptable.

Add ScriptHookVDotNet and NativeUI only when the mod requires them

Managed scripts use a different dependency chain from a standalone ASI plugin. If the jetpack readme lists .NET support, install the exact ScriptHookVDotNet files requested by that release in the GTA V directory. If it lists NativeUI, install the matching NativeUI files as directed. Do not add every version found in an unrelated tutorial; duplicate or mismatched libraries can create conflicts.

Dependency check

• Confirm the mod’s required ScriptHookVDotNet generation and supported game edition.
• Confirm the NativeUI version or package name specified by the author.
• Place files in the location named by the readme, normally the game directory for the loader and the scripts folder for script files.
• Start Story Mode after adding the dependency, before installing the jetpack itself.

If the game launches but the script later does nothing, verify these versions and locations before changing unrelated files.

Use OpenIV safely for model, texture and archive files

OpenIV is an archive editor commonly used for offline GTA V modding. It is relevant when a jetpack package contains model, texture or archive replacements rather than only script files.

1. Install OpenIV from its official distribution and select the Windows GTA V installation when prompted.
2. Enable the program’s mods workflow rather than editing the original archives directly.
3. Before editing an archive, copy the original archive into the mods folder at the same path.
4. Open the copied archive and replace only the files specified by the jetpack readme.
5. Save the archive, close OpenIV and record its path in your installation note.

An .oiv package is not automatically safe just because OpenIV can open it. Install one only according to that mod’s own instructions and confirm where it writes files. If a package does not explain its archive path, stop and ask the author or choose a package with clearer documentation.

Install the jetpack files from the package readme

There is no universal jetpack folder. Script files commonly belong in the game root or a scripts folder, while models and textures belong in the archive paths specified by the author. Preserve the package’s folder structure unless the readme says otherwise.

Jetpack SP

Jetpack SP brings the Mammoth Thruster from GTA Online’s Doomsday Heist into Story Mode. Its listed requirements are the latest compatible Script Hook V, ScriptHookVDotNet and NativeUI. Install those dependencies first, then copy the Jetpack SP files to the locations named in its readme. Confirm the activation key there; do not assume a key from another jetpack script will work.

JetPack Mod [.NET]

The JetPack Mod [.NET] page specifies GTA V version 1.42 or newer. After the required .NET components are installed, copy its script and any supplied assets exactly as instructed. If the package includes model or texture archives, follow the OpenIV procedure rather than placing those files in the scripts folder.

Activation and first launch

1. Start GTA V in Story Mode, not through an online session.
2. Load a save in a quiet area where you can see the character and vehicle clearly.
3. Use the activation key or menu command documented by the package.
4. Test the jetpack’s spawn, movement and controls for a few minutes.
5. Exit normally and write down the working key and installed files.

Do not add a second jetpack script until the first one works. Two scripts that hook the same controls or spawn the same vehicle can make diagnosis much harder.

Test in small, reversible stages

Install and test in this order:

1. Clean game launch with no mod files.
2. Script Hook V and its ASI loader.
3. ScriptHookVDotNet and NativeUI, if required.
4. OpenIV archive changes, if required.
5. The jetpack script and its remaining assets.

Start the game after each stage. If a launch fails, remove only the newest change and retest. This identifies the responsible component and avoids deleting working dependencies. Keep the backup untouched until the complete setup has survived several Story Mode launches.

Keep the modded setup out of GTA Online

Never enter GTA Online with Script Hook V, an ASI loader, ScriptHookVDotNet, NativeUI or jetpack files installed. The Script Hook V listing states that it closes GTA V when multiplayer is entered, and current installation guidance likewise limits the modded setup to single-player.

Before an online session, restore a clean installation or remove and disable every loader and mod file. If you use separate installations, verify the launcher is pointing to the unmodified one. Do not rely on a warning screen, an automatic loader shutdown or the absence of a visible jetpack; the only dependable precaution is a clean game environment.

Handle GTA V updates and build mismatches

Rockstar updates can change the game build without changing your mod files. Script Hook V and individual jetpack scripts may then need matching releases. A mismatch commonly prevents the game from launching or leaves the script inactive.

1. After a GTA V update, check the installed build and the supported-build notes for Script Hook V.
2. Check the jetpack page for an update that names the new build and edition.
3. If no compatible release exists, remove or temporarily rename the loaders and launch the unmodified game.
4. Wait for compatible files instead of copying a Script Hook V release intended for another build.
5. Retest the dependency chain in the staged order after updating.

Keep your previous working files in a dated backup, but do not mix old and new loader components in the active installation.

Troubleshoot the most common failures

When the launcher repairs files

A launcher verification or repair can restore changed files but may also remove mod components. After a repair, begin with the edition and build check, reinstall only compatible dependencies and repeat the staged test. Do not assume a previously working package remains compatible after the game itself has changed.

Remove the jetpack without damaging the original game

1. Close GTA V and the launcher.
2. Use your installation note to remove the jetpack script, its configuration files and any package-specific assets.
3. Undo only the OpenIV archive changes in the mods folder, or delete the modified copy and recreate it from an untouched original.
4. Remove ScriptHookVDotNet and NativeUI if no other Story Mode mod needs them.
5. Remove ScriptHookV.dll and dinput8.dll when returning to an unmodded installation or preparing to play online.
6. Launch Story Mode once to verify the clean state, then use the unmodified installation for multiplayer.

If you cannot identify every changed file, replace the installation with the clean backup rather than deleting files at random. That is why preserving an untouched copy before installation matters.
