This guide covers managed hosting dashboards, a dedicated-folder or self-hosted AssettoServer setup, Content Manager downloads, Custom Shaders Patch (CSP) requirements, pit-box limits, and the fixes for the failures players encounter most often.

What must match before anyone joins
Assetto Corsa loads a track from a folder, not just from the name shown in a server browser. The server and each client need the same track files, the same release, and the same active layout. A package may include a Grand Prix (GP), short, drift, endurance, or other layout, but one session activates one track and one layout at a time.
- Complete package: Keep the original map, data, layout, and supporting folders together. Do not copy only the visible circuit folder or merge files from another release.
- Exact layout: Select the layout that the server configuration names. A client with the GP layout cannot join a server running the short layout if the package treats them as separate layouts.
- Compatible car: The server needs at least one car entry. The entry list must also fit the number of pit boxes defined by the selected layout.
- Compatible CSP: A CSP-dependent track requires the minimum CSP version configured by the server and installed by clients.
- Restart after saving: Uploading a file is not enough. The map selection must finish processing, be applied, and then be loaded by a server restart.
Download the track from its author or another source that grants redistribution rights. Keep the archive unchanged as your reference copy; it makes it possible to reinstall exactly the same files when a checksum problem appears.

Prepare and test the track locally
Verify the package in Content Manager or Assetto Corsa
- Install the archive on a test computer through Content Manager, or extract it into the local Assetto Corsa tracks directory using the package’s original folder structure.
- Open the track page and run each layout you intend to offer. Confirm that the map loads, timing sectors appear, pit entry and exit work, and the surface behaves normally.
- Note the track identifier and the exact layout name shown by the launcher. The identifier may not match the marketing name used in the download title.
- Check whether the author requires CSP, a particular CSP version, or additional data. Record that requirement before configuring the server.
Local testing catches a broken archive before it is uploaded and tells you whether the package contains one layout or several. If a layout is missing locally, uploading the archive again will not make it appear on the server; obtain the complete package instead.
Keep one canonical release
Do not update the server by replacing individual files from a newer download. Mixing releases can leave different data, ui, or layout files on the server and clients. Remove the old installation from the test computer, install the chosen archive cleanly, and use that same archive for the server and every player.

Install through a managed hosting dashboard
Dashboard labels differ by provider, but the sequence is consistent: upload, choose the map and layout, apply, wait, restart, and verify. Some dashboards accept an archive; others require an extracted folder.
1. Open the content area
Sign in to the server panel and open its Content tab or equivalent asset library. Before uploading, confirm that the panel identifies the item as a track rather than a car, app, or generic file.
2. Upload the track in the format the panel accepts
When archive upload is supported, submit the original ZIP, RAR, or 7Z file. Let the panel finish extracting and indexing it. If the provider asks for a folder, extract the archive locally and upload the complete track folder, preserving every subfolder. Do not upload a screenshot, only the layout directory, or a folder nested one level too deep.
Managed hosting instructions updated on August 29, 2026, describe an Asset Library workflow that accepts a track ZIP, RAR, or 7Z archive. A separate managed-hosting workflow requires selecting the installed folder directly from Assetto Corsa > Content > Tracks, does not use compressed archives for that upload screen, and limits one batch to 10 items. Follow the control panel’s current instruction when these workflows differ.

3. Choose the circuit and exact layout
Open Change Map (or the panel’s equivalent picker), find the processed track, and select the layout you tested. If the package contains GP, short, drift, endurance, or other variants, expand the track entry rather than assuming the first layout is correct.
4. Add at least one car and check pit boxes
Select at least one compatible car entry before applying the map. Compare the layout’s pit-box count with the number of drivers you plan to host. A hosting plan may advertise more player slots than a particular layout can physically provide; the layout’s pit boxes are the practical limit for that session.
5. Apply the map selection
Press Apply Selection, Save, or the panel’s equivalent. Watch for an extraction, indexing, or content-processing indicator. Do not restart while that operation is still running. A partially processed upload can leave the old map in the picker or create an incomplete installation.
6. Restart the server
After processing finishes, restart from the provider panel. A restart before the save completes can reload the previous map, while a saved selection without a restart may leave the running session unchanged.

Read the server console or session details after startup. Confirm that the expected track identifier and layout are reported. If the panel still shows the old circuit, apply the new selection again, wait for processing to finish, and restart once more.
8. Join with a clean client
On a test computer, remove conflicting copies and install the exact same archive and layout through Content Manager. Join the server and verify that the track loads, the checksum passes, the pit positions are available, and timing sectors function. Invite the rest of the group only after this clean join succeeds.

Install in a dedicated folder with AssettoServer
AssettoServer documents two operating modes: running inside Content Manager or running from a dedicated folder. The dedicated-folder mode is more portable and flexible for advanced setups because you control the server files and configuration directly.
1. Place the extracted folder in the content tree
Extract the complete package under the server’s tracks directory. A typical path is:

Do not rename internal directories unless the track’s documentation explicitly requires it; configuration and checksum paths can depend on those names.
2. Set the track and layout in the preset
Open the server preset or configuration used to launch the session and set the track identifier and layout to the values exposed by the installed files. Save the configuration before restarting. If you operate several presets, edit the one that the running service actually uses.
3. Configure a minimum CSP version when required
For the documented AssettoServer minimum-CSP pattern, create a csp directory below content/tracks, move the track folder into it, and set the track value in server_cfg.ini as follows:
TRACK=csp/<CSPversionID>/../<trackname>In the track’s data/surfaces.ini, change only the first SURFACE_0 entry to CSPFACE_0. Do not change additional surface entries. Altering more than the first surface can produce client checksum errors. Enable the matching minimum CSP version in the server configuration, restart, and require clients to meet that version.

4. Validate from the server process
Start the service and inspect its console output for the track identifier, layout, and any missing-file or CSP message. A successful process start does not prove that a client can join, so complete a real connection test with the same archive installed locally.
Use Assetto Server Manager for a self-hosted installation
Assetto Server Manager can work with a copied Assetto Corsa server folder or files obtained through SteamCMD. Its Docker deployment uses persistent server volumes, so the mounted volume must survive container recreation.
Copy the complete content directory
Upload the complete content/tracks directory to the manager, not just the main track mesh. The manager’s documented workflow expects track images, layouts, and installed mod tracks to be present so they can be selected and displayed.
Persist and back up the volume
When running in Docker, map the server data to a persistent volume and keep a copy of the known-good track archive and configuration. Recreating a container should not remove the track files or reset the selected layout.

Automatic missing-content downloads are optional. They do not replace installing the track on the server, and they do not grant permission to redistribute someone else’s files.
Configure the server metadata
- Enable detailed server information by setting
EnableServerDetails: trueinextra_cfg.yml. - Provide a
cm_content/content.jsonfile that describes the track download. - Use a download link supplied by the content author unless redistribution is explicitly allowed.
- Set the metadata version to the version shown in the server’s content tab. Omit the version field when the mod has no version.
After restarting, have a client open the server details in Content Manager and request the missing track. If the download is unavailable, share the author’s archive through a permitted channel and have each player install it manually.
Hosted dashboard versus self-managed files

Troubleshoot the common failures
The track is absent from the map picker
- Wait for upload processing or indexing to finish.
- Confirm the panel recognized the archive as a map, not as an arbitrary file.
- Check whether the maps total increased after the upload.
- If the provider requires folders, extract the archive and upload the folder from
Assetto Corsa > Content > Tracks. - Check for an extra nesting level such as
tracks/trackname/trackname; move the actual track folder to the expected level.
The layout is missing
Open the original package locally and confirm that the requested layout is actually included. Re-upload a complete copy if the server received only the main folder or a partial extraction. Select the layout by its exact identifier rather than by a shortened display name.
Clients receive a checksum error
- Stop the server and note the exact track version and layout.
- Remove altered or duplicate client copies.
- Install the same original archive on the server and every client.
- Undo unauthorized edits to
data,surfaces.ini, layout files, or other content. - For a CSP setup, verify that only the first
SURFACE_0was changed toCSPFACE_0as required and that the configured CSP version matches the clients.
Do not mix files from two releases to fix one missing texture or surface. That can replace a visible problem with a checksum failure.
Apply fails or the server refuses to start the session
- Select one map and at least one car entry.
- Wait until content processing finishes before pressing Apply again.
- Check that the chosen layout has enough pit boxes for the configured entry list.
- Inspect the console for a misspelled track identifier or a folder path that does not exist.
The old track still loads
Open the map picker, select the new circuit and layout again, apply the selection, wait for processing to finish, and restart the server. Then check the console or session details rather than relying only on the browser name.
Rain or CSP effects are missing
Confirm that the track actually requires CSP, that the server has the matching minimum version enabled, and that every client meets it. A client with an older CSP build may load the circuit but lack rain, lighting, or other effects; a strict minimum-CSP configuration may reject it entirely.
Automatic download does not work
- Verify that
EnableServerDetails: trueis present inextra_cfg.yml. - Check the path and syntax of
cm_content/content.json. - Use the author’s permitted download URL and ensure the metadata version matches the content tab.
- Omit the version field when the mod has no version.
- If the author does not permit redistribution or the link is unavailable, distribute the archive manually instead of publishing an unauthorized mirror.
Final pre-race checklist
- The server contains the complete, unmodified track package.
- The selected track identifier and layout match the files installed on clients.
- At least one compatible car is enabled.
- The entry list does not exceed the selected layout’s pit-box count.
- The map change was applied and processing completed before the restart.
- The server console reports the expected track and layout after startup.
- A clean test client joins with the same archive and passes checksum validation.
- Any required CSP version is enabled on the server and installed by every player.
- Content Manager download metadata uses an author-approved link and the correct version field.
Once those checks pass, a custom track behaves like any other Assetto Corsa server content: the server loads one chosen layout, and every player joins with the same files and compatible settings.
