If an opponent appears to be cheating, report the behavior through Counter-Strike 2’s scoreboard or the player’s Steam Community profile. Then keep expectations realistic: a report is evidence for Valve to evaluate, not a verdict and not a guaranteed VAC ban. To reduce future matchmaking problems, follow Valve’s public advice to play legitimately, while recognizing that the detailed Trust Factor formula and your personal score are not publicly disclosed.
The most useful response is procedural rather than emotional. Record what you actually observed, use an official reporting route, avoid public accusations, and separate a single suspicious moment from a repeated pattern. Those steps help you act without turning a difficult match into harassment or misinformation.

Report the player in Counter-Strike 2 first
The in-game scoreboard is the most direct reporting route for a match you are currently playing. Steam Support’s suspected-cheaters FAQ describes this workflow for CS2.
Use the scoreboard report
- Hold the scoreboard key. Tab is the default.
- Press the alternate-fire or zoom key to display the mouse cursor. The default is the right mouse button; use whatever key is bound to that action in your settings.
- Click the suspected player’s name.
- Choose Report.
- Select the cheating categories that match what you observed and accept the submission.
Describe the conduct you actually saw rather than trying to diagnose the software behind it. A sequence of impossible information, aim or movement may justify a report; one unusually accurate round does not establish cheating by itself. Reporting the specific behavior helps avoid turning a frustrating loss into a public accusation.

Report from the Steam Community profile
You can also open the player’s Steam Community profile and use its Report function. Follow the available cheating-related category prompts and submit the report. This is useful when the match has ended or you did not complete the scoreboard report in time.
Steam Support does not state that the profile route receives a different enforcement result from the in-game route. Choose the channel that is available and provide an accurate description.
Which route should you choose?
| Situation | Practical route | What to remember |
|---|---|---|
| You are still in the match | Scoreboard report | Use Tab, reveal the cursor with the alternate-fire/zoom key, select the name and submit the relevant categories. |
| The match is over or you missed the menu | Steam Community profile | Open the profile and use its Report function; Steam does not promise a different enforcement result for this route. |
| You are concerned about a recurring matchmaking pattern | Trust Factor feedback email | Valve’s legacy FAQ asks for a description, your Steam ID and the subject “Trust Factor Feedback.” |
There is no need to submit the same allegation repeatedly through every channel. One precise, good-faith report is preferable to a stream of duplicate accusations. If you use the profile route after an in-game report, do so because you missed details or need to report after the match, not because multiple submissions guarantee faster action.
What a report does—and does not—do
A report is not a VAC decision
Steam Support’s Valve Anti-Cheat FAQ says, “Users are not VAC banned based on reports alone.” Valve considers other factors before issuing a ban. Your report can bring a match to the appropriate review systems, but you cannot demand a ban, determine the outcome or assume that no visible action means the report was ignored.
Do not promise teammates that a report will remove the player. The report records your observation; Valve decides whether the available evidence supports enforcement. A player may remain visible in later games even when you have no way to know whether Valve has reviewed the account or taken action.
Keep the report inside official channels
Steam asks users not to post Steam IDs, cheat files or links to cheat sites in Steam discussions or elsewhere on Steam. Do not publish a suspected player’s identity, encourage harassment or try to investigate them through unofficial services. Use the scoreboard or profile report flow instead.
That rule also protects the quality of your complaint. A public post often mixes opinions, edited clips and claims about a person’s intent. The official form lets you identify the relevant cheating category without inviting a pile-on or distributing material that Steam specifically asks users not to post.

Make your report more useful without overclaiming
Separate suspicious rounds from ordinary mistakes
Before submitting, identify what changed your assessment. Useful observations include repeated pre-aiming at players who were not visible, shots through several unrelated walls, impossible information about a concealed position, or aim behavior that remains abnormal across multiple rounds. A single wallbang, fast reaction or lucky spray can have an ordinary explanation.
Consider the whole sequence: whether the player could have heard a step, received information from a teammate, seen a radar cue or anticipated a common angle. Network delay, spectator perspective and unusual timing can also make a normal play look impossible. You do not need to resolve every explanation yourself; the point is to report a repeatable observation rather than a conclusion you cannot support.

Report only what the interface allows you to categorize. You do not need to name a cheat, identify a program or prove intent. If you are unsure, describe the pattern and let Valve evaluate it.
Use available match context
Note the map, approximate round, player’s name and the observable action while the details are fresh. This is for your own accurate report; it is not a reason to post the player’s Steam ID publicly. Do not alter clips or present speculation as fact.

Stay neutral while the match is live
Do not confront the player, threaten them or ask teammates to harass them. Chat arguments rarely create useful evidence and can produce reports against you or your teammates. Continue playing normally, mute disruptive chat if necessary, and submit the official report without retaliating with cheating, griefing or intentional loss of rounds.
Can you review a demo before reporting?
Valve’s February 25, 2020 CS:GO release notes described reporting players from your own recently played matches after viewing the demo from the Watch tab. That is historical CS:GO documentation, not confirmation that the same Watch-tab workflow exists in the current CS2 client.
If your current CS2 interface offers a demo or replay review, use the controls it presents and report through the current client. Do not rely on the 2020 instructions as a guaranteed CS2 procedure, and do not delay an in-game report while searching for an old menu.
Reviewing a replay can help you check your memory and distinguish an unexpected angle from repeated information. Treat it as a private fact-checking step, not as permission to publish a player’s identity or a download link. The current client determines what review and reporting controls are actually available.
Improve future matchmaking through legitimate play
What Valve publicly says about Trust Factor
Valve’s public Trust Factor page describes a matchmaking system that considered a range of account and gameplay signals, but it does not publish the complete formula or show an individual player’s Trust Factor score. The page is written for CS:GO, so it should be treated as legacy public guidance rather than a documented CS2 score or a promise about a particular match.
The Counter-Strike team summarizes its advice this way: “All you need to do to improve your matchmaking experience is continue to play CS:GO and other Steam games legitimately.” In practical terms, that means avoiding cheats and other attempts to manipulate matches, and remaining a positive member of the CS:GO and Steam communities. Valve does not publish a timetable for improvement or a measurable score change after a particular number of games.

Because Valve does not disclose the inputs or their weighting, do not pay anyone who claims to reveal your score, sell a guaranteed “Trust Factor fix” or promise that a certain number of wins will change matchmaking. No public formula in the cited FAQ supports those claims.

- Play without cheats or unauthorized assistance.
- Use official game and Steam features instead of trying to influence matchmaking through exploits or public callouts.
- Keep reports factual and limited to behavior you observed.
- Continue normal, legitimate activity rather than chasing an alleged Trust Factor score that you cannot see.
- Avoid behavior intended to manipulate matches, such as retaliatory griefing or deliberate disruption after a suspicious encounter.
These actions follow Valve’s stated guidance, but they cannot guarantee a cheat-free lobby, a particular opponent quality or a specific Trust Factor result. A difficult queue is not proof that your account has a known, measurable penalty.
How parties may affect matchmaking
Valve’s Trust Factor FAQ says that, in the described CS:GO system, matchmaking used the lowest Trust Factor among members of a party. That statement comes from the same legacy page and does not establish the current CS2 formula. It does mean that party composition was an explicit consideration in Valve’s public explanation of the older system.
Do not treat one friend’s account as a confirmed explanation for every difficult CS2 match. The current score, factor list and enforcement thresholds are not publicly documented. If a party repeatedly experiences poor matches, describe the pattern accurately rather than blaming the teammate with the newest account or the lowest visible game history.
Leaving a party or changing teammates may change the opponents you encounter for ordinary matchmaking reasons, but Valve’s public material does not promise that doing so will repair a Trust Factor result. Treat any improvement as an observation, not proof of how the hidden system works.

| Trusted Mode | Steam Support’s CS2 Trusted Mode FAQ says it is enabled by default and blocks third-party files from interacting with the game. | It is not a promise that every opponent is legitimate, and it does not display or assign a public matchmaking score. |
| Trust Factor | Valve’s public explanation describes a matchmaking concept using multiple signals and advises legitimate participation. | The complete formula, your personal score and a guaranteed match-quality outcome are not publicly provided. |
Steam Support also explicitly says that playing in normal, non-Trusted mode does not guarantee a Trust score penalty or separation from players in Trusted Mode. Therefore, do not claim that enabling Trusted Mode selects “clean” matches, and do not equate a security-mode setting with a Trust Factor rating.
Trusted Mode concerns whether third-party files can interact with the CS2 process. Trust Factor is the matchmaking concept discussed in Valve’s older public explanation. They address different questions, so changing a security-mode setting is not a substitute for reporting suspicious behavior or following legitimate-play guidance.

Use Valve’s feedback address for a poor matchmaking experience
Valve’s Trust Factor FAQ directs players who have a poor matchmaking experience to email [email protected] with the subject Trust Factor Feedback. Include a clear description of the matchmaking problem and your Steam ID, as requested by that FAQ.
This address is supplied on a CS:GO-era page. It is a feedback route, not a live-status tool: the page does not promise a personal score, a response time or a change to a particular account. Do not expect an automated explanation of why a specific match occurred.

Write a useful feedback message
- Use the requested subject exactly so the message is identifiable.
- Explain the recurring matchmaking pattern, rather than asserting that a named opponent is guilty.
- Provide your Steam ID and relevant dates or match context if you have them.
- Explain whether the issue occurs solo, in a particular party, or across several sessions, without claiming that this proves a hidden score.
- Do not attach cheat links, distribute cheat files or include private information about other players.
Keep the message focused on matchmaking quality. A report about one opponent belongs in the in-game or profile flow; an email to the feedback address is for describing a broader, recurring experience under the instructions on Valve’s legacy FAQ.

During the match
- Observe more than one round before deciding that the pattern is reportable, unless the conduct is immediately obvious.
- Check ordinary explanations such as sound cues, teammate information, common angles, timing and network delay.
- Keep playing normally; do not retaliate with cheating, griefing or harassment.
- Use the scoreboard report path while the player and match context are available.
- Select only the categories supported by what you observed.
After the match
- If you missed the in-game flow, open the player’s Steam Community profile and use Report.
- Write down factual details for your own reference instead of posting accusations or Steam IDs.
- If the current client offers replay or demo controls, use them to check the sequence, but do not assume the 2020 CS:GO Watch-tab instructions are current CS2 support.
- If the problem is a recurring matchmaking pattern rather than one opponent, prepare a concise Trust Factor Feedback message using Valve’s legacy instructions.
- Continue legitimate play and avoid treating the absence of a visible ban as proof that the system took no action.
Common mistakes that make the situation worse
- Reporting every strong player: accuracy and consistency are not proof of cheating. Report a pattern you can describe.
- Assuming a report guarantees a ban: Valve says reports alone do not determine VAC bans.
- Publishing a Steam ID or cheat link: Steam asks users not to post this material in Steam discussions. Keep the information in official reporting channels.
- Confusing Trusted Mode with Trust Factor: one is a CS2 security mode; the other is a matchmaking concept described in legacy documentation.
- Quoting old demo instructions as current CS2 support: the Watch-tab procedure is documented in 2020 CS:GO release notes, not verified here for the current CS2 client.
- Sending an emotional accusation to feedback: describe recurring matchmaking conditions and dates instead of naming a player as guilty.
- Assuming hidden scores can be optimized: Valve does not publish the formula, score or timetable for improvement.
- Buying hardware or software to solve the problem: no peripheral or generic utility can substitute for the official report and feedback processes described by Valve.
What outcome should you expect?
The realistic outcome is narrower than many players expect. You can submit an accurate report immediately, provide additional context through the Steam profile route, and send feedback about a recurring matchmaking experience. Valve may consider those reports alongside other information, but the cited support pages do not promise a notification, disclose an investigation result or publish a ban-rate statistic.
Your controllable long-term step is legitimate participation. Valve’s public Trust Factor advice is deliberately broad because the detailed inputs and weighting remain undisclosed. Treat it as guidance for conduct, not as a formula you can optimize or a guarantee that the next queue will be free of suspicious opponents.
If you leave a match with no visible resolution, that is not a reason to escalate publicly. Finish the official report, preserve only the factual notes you need, and return to normal play. The combination of accurate reporting, restraint and legitimate participation is the strongest response supported by Valve’s published guidance.

Frequently asked questions
How do I report players I believe are cheating on VAC-secured servers?
In CS2, hold Tab, press the alternate-fire or zoom key to show the cursor, click the player’s name, choose Report, select the relevant cheating categories and accept. You can also report through the player’s Steam Community profile.
Will my report automatically cause a VAC ban?
No. Steam Support’s VAC FAQ states, “Users are not VAC banned based on reports alone.” Valve considers other factors, and the reporter is not promised a result or notification.
Should I post the player’s Steam ID so others can investigate?
No. Steam asks users not to post Steam IDs, cheat files or links to cheat sites in Steam discussions. Use the official in-game or profile reporting flow and avoid harassment.
Does Trusted Mode guarantee clean matchmaking?
No. Trusted Mode blocks third-party files from interacting with CS2 and is enabled by default, but it is not a public Trust Factor score or a guarantee that every opponent is legitimate.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
Can I see my Trust Factor score?
Valve’s public Trust Factor FAQ does not provide an individual score or the complete formula. Be cautious of anyone claiming to reveal a verified score or sell a guaranteed improvement.
Best Value
Does playing outside Trusted Mode always lower Trust Factor?
Steam Support explicitly says that playing in normal, non-Trusted mode does not guarantee a Trust score penalty or separation from Trusted Mode players. Do not present that setting as a definitive matchmaking explanation.
Can party members affect matchmaking quality?
Valve’s CS:GO-era FAQ says the older system used the lowest Trust Factor among party members. It does not establish the current CS2 formula, so use it as historical context rather than a guaranteed explanation for a modern match.
Where can I send feedback about repeated poor matchmaking?
Valve’s legacy Trust Factor FAQ lists [email protected] with the subject Trust Factor Feedback. Include a clear description and your Steam ID as requested, while recognizing that the page promises neither a response time nor a score change.

No. It blocks third-party files from interacting with CS2, but it is not a Trust Factor score or a clean-match guarantee.

The Bottom Line
Report suspected cheating through CS2’s scoreboard or the player’s Steam profile, describe observable behavior, and keep accusations off public Steam discussions. A report is not a VAC verdict. For longer-term matchmaking concerns, follow Valve’s broad legacy Trust Factor advice to play legitimately, and remember that Trusted Mode and Trust Factor are separate concepts.
