1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesIn Gears of War: E-Day, improving your aim means accounting for projectile travel time and learning how each weapon behaves—not relying on one recoil trick for every gun. Start with controlled bursts on automatic weapons, lead targets when shots need time to reach them, and use cover and shoulder-swapping to create a clearer angle.
What affects aim in E-Day
The Coalition says E-Day simulates projectile ballistics and travel time. A shot is not necessarily an instant hit: when a target is moving or far away, allow for the projectile’s travel and aim ahead of a moving target. The developer also says weapons have distinct handling, so a method that suits one gun may not suit another. The Coalition’s gameplay update describes these mechanics but does not publish numerical recoil patterns or accuracy figures.

Use controlled bursts with automatic weapons
The Coalition says recoil on some automatic weapons is tuned to reward short-burst firing. Treat bursts as a starting habit, not a rule for every weapon: fire briefly, pause, and check where your shots land before firing again.
A simple practice drill
- Choose an automatic weapon and a target at a comfortable distance.
- Fire a brief burst, then release the trigger instead of holding it down.
- Observe the reticle and impact pattern; adjust your aim before the next burst.
- Repeat at a different distance and with a different weapon so you learn its individual behavior.
This is a suggested practice routine, not a developer-published training drill. The goal is to notice how your chosen weapon behaves rather than assume all automatic guns share one recoil pattern.

Match your aim to the weapon and distance
Range, recoil, projectile travel, and firing format all affect how easy a weapon is to control. The Coalition’s examples illustrate why it is useful to learn weapons separately:
| Weapon | What the developer says | Practical implication |
|---|---|---|
| Retro Lancer | Deadly at close range; usable at mid-to-long range if you can tame its strong recoil. | Begin at a comfortable range and work on controlling its recoil before taking longer shots. |
| Snub | Quick to draw and fires as fast as the trigger can be pulled. | Its firing format is trigger-controlled; avoid assuming automatic-weapon burst advice applies in the same way. |
| Hammerburst | An accurate six-round burst weapon. | Account for its defined burst format rather than treating it like continuous automatic fire. |
These are examples, not a complete weapon ranking or a guarantee that every shot will behave identically in every situation. For moving targets, lead them when projectile travel matters. If a target is beyond a weapon’s useful range, do not simply hold fire and expect the same result as at closer distance; close the gap or choose a better angle or weapon.

Use cover and shoulder-swapping to improve the sightline
E-Day is a third-person cover shooter. The Coalition supports shoulder-swapping while aiming, which changes your character’s position on screen and can help expose a different sightline around cover. Use it as a positioning choice, not as a recoil correction. If cover blocks your view or leaves a poor angle, swap shoulders or reposition rather than fighting the obstruction with extra firing.
Xbox describes the game as modernizing movement while retaining Gears’ cover-based feel. That makes cover and angle selection part of the aiming decision, alongside weapon handling. Xbox Wire’s E-Day overview provides that broader movement context.

Treat active reload as timing and ammunition management
Active reload belongs to the aiming experience, but it is not an accuracy or recoil bonus. In the June 9, 2026 Xbox podcast, The Coalition Studio Creative Director Matt Searcy explained the active-reload indicator’s place in aiming: “And it’s part of your aim experience.” His comment concerns the interface and role of active reload, not a claim that it reduces recoil. The official Xbox podcast transcript also describes shell-loading weapons that can be interrupted to fire after a shell is loaded. Use that option when getting a shot off matters more than finishing the reload; otherwise, manage the reload timing around the opening you have.
Adjust settings cautiously
The official sources reviewed do not establish a best sensitivity, dead-zone value, or universal recoil-control preset. The support guide confirms customization and accessibility options under Settings > Accessibility, but it does not identify an optimal aiming configuration. Gears of War Support’s accessibility guide is the relevant official reference.

- Not established by the official sources reviewed: a numeric sensitivity or dead-zone recommendation, a universal recoil pattern, a single best weapon for aim practice, or an accuracy benefit from active reload.
