To improve Xbox Series X download speeds, first compare the console’s network test with the speed shown for the game in My games & apps > Manage > Queue. Then close active games and bandwidth-heavy apps, compare Wi-Fi with Ethernet if possible, and check again later if results fluctuate. A fast network test does not guarantee that a particular game download will run at the same rate.
Measure the connection and the download separately
- On the Xbox, open Settings > General > Network settings and run Test network speed & statistics. Note the reported download speed and packet loss. Menu wording can vary by software version.
- Open My games & apps > Manage > Queue and check the active game’s download speed.
These numbers describe different things: the network test checks the console’s connection, while the queue reflects the current download. Treat them as clues, not identical measurements. If both are slow, investigate the connection from the console through the router to your internet provider. If the test is much faster than the queue, look first for competing activity and check again later; the comparison alone cannot identify whether download-service conditions or installation work is responsible.

Free bandwidth for the game
- Quit any game you are playing and close streaming or other network-using apps while the download runs.
- In the queue, use the suspend option for a running game if it is offered.
- Check whether other games or apps are downloading updates at the same time.
Microsoft’s developer documentation describes an API that can let a game request full download bandwidth on a download-progress screen and relinquish that allowance when the player switches views. That explains why suspending a running game can help, but does not establish that every game manages bandwidth in the same way. Microsoft’s XSystemAllowFullDownloadBandwidth documentation describes the mechanism.

If you can reach the router, connect the Xbox to it with an Ethernet cable and repeat the network test and queue check. Ethernet avoids wireless signal loss and interference, making it a useful way to determine whether Wi-Fi is the local bottleneck. It cannot fix a slow internet plan, wider network congestion, or a temporary download-service slowdown.
#1 Best Overall
- 40 Gbps 2000 Mhz High Speed: The Cat 8 ethernet cable support max. 40 Gbps data transfer and 2000 MHz Brandwith, ideal for gaming and streaming, greatly improving upload and download speed, sound, image and resolution quality
- Excellent Anti-interference: The ethernet cable comes with 4 shielded foiled twisted pairs (F/FTP), pure copper core and gold-plated RJ45 connector, reducing interference, noise and crosstalk, making network speed faster and more stable
- Marvelous Durability: Internet cable wrapped with quality cotton braided cord, which makes the LAN cable stronger and more durable. The test proves that this internet cable can be bent at least 10000 times without broken, very suitable for long-term use
- PoE Supported: All lengths of ethernet cord can support the PoE power supply function except 65ft. You don't need additional power supply when installing a PoE camera, which is very convenient and safe
- Wide Compatibility: With the RJ45 Connector, network cable can be perfectly compatible with computers, laptops, modems, routers, PS5, X-Box and other networking devices. It can also be fully backward compatible with Cat7, Cat6e, Cat6, Cat5e, Cat5
If you need Wi-Fi, try placing the console closer to the router with fewer walls or obstacles in the way. When the router offers both bands, 5 GHz can provide better speed and latency at shorter range; 2.4 GHz reaches farther but is generally slower and more exposed to interference. Choose based on the console’s actual test results, not the band label alone. An Ethernet cable is an optional way to make this comparison; no particular cable model or category is required by the evidence here.
Check for congestion or a temporary slowdown
- Pause large downloads and streaming on other devices while you test.
- If speeds vary, rerun the checks at another time. Busy periods can strain an ISP or Xbox Network, but there is no universal best hour or guaranteed schedule.
- If the connection itself appears stuck or malfunctioning, restart the router and console, then run the network test again. Follow the router maker’s restart guidance if it differs.
Other people using the home network, ISP conditions, and Xbox service conditions can all affect results. A change in speed at one particular time is not, by itself, proof of a fault in the console.

- Cat 8 Speed, Cat 5/5e Value Enjoy Cat 8 Ethernet cable performance at a Cat 5/5e-level value. With up to 40Gbps speed and 2000MHz bandwidth, this high speed internet cable delivers more bandwidth than standard Cat 5 and Cat 5e cables, helping support smooth gaming, streaming, video calls, large file transfers and everyday wired network use.
- 40Gbps Speed, Wide Compatibility This Cat 8 Ethernet cable supports up to 40Gbps data transfer and 2000MHz bandwidth for fast, reliable internet performance. Standard RJ45 connectors are backward compatible with Cat7, Cat6, Cat6a and Cat5e devices, including routers, modems, switches, gaming PCs, PS5, PS4, Xbox, smart TVs, laptops and printers.
- Stable U/FTP Shielding Each of the 4 twisted pairs is individually wrapped with aluminum foil to help reduce crosstalk, noise, and signal interference. Combined with RJ45 connectors on both ends, the U/FTP design helps maintain cleaner signal transmission for a stable and reliable wired network connection.
- Nylon Braided Durability The nylon braided jacket adds everyday durability while keeping the cable flexible and easy to route. Reinforced construction helps the cord handle bending, pulling and frequent plugging, making it a reliable choice for desks, gaming rooms, home offices and long-term network setups.
- 50ft Reach for More Setups The 50 ft length makes it easier to connect devices across rooms, along walls, under desks or around corners. Great for router-to-PC connections, modem-to-TV setups, gaming consoles, workstations, printers and other home network equipment that needs a longer Ethernet cable.

Use the results to decide what to troubleshoot next
- The Xbox test is poor and other devices are slow too: Check the router, wireless signal, and internet service. A wired comparison can help separate a Wi-Fi issue from a broader connection problem.
- The Xbox test is good but the queue is slow: Reduce competing downloads and active games, then recheck later. The test and queue measure different parts of the experience.
- Only one game is slow: Check again later and make sure other downloads or active games are not competing. The available evidence does not establish a definitive cause for every game-specific slowdown.
- The Xbox remains slow on a stable wired connection: Consult current Xbox Support guidance for your console and region. Available official support material does not establish a single universal escalation path here.
