Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsAs of October 7, 2026, the full PC release of Warhammer 40,000: Boltgun 2 is scheduled for October 14 and has not launched. A Steam demo is available, but there are no independent full-game benchmarks establishing which settings improve FPS or reduce stuttering. For now, the practical steps are to compare your PC with the current Steam requirements and to treat demo crash workarounds as unverified launch troubleshooting—not performance fixes.
What you can do before the full release
First check the PC requirements and release status on the Steam store listing. Steam currently publishes minimum and recommended configurations with performance targets, but those are store specifications, not independent test results. The official Auroch Digital FAQ lists a materially different set of requirements, and does not explain the discrepancy. Use the Steam table as the current store listing, but do not treat either set as definitive post-launch support guidance until the mismatch is resolved.

The full PC game is scheduled for October 14, 2026; Steam says it is not yet available. A demo is available, but reports about that demo do not establish how the full release performs.
Compare your PC with Steam’s current requirements
The following specifications and targets are from the Steam listing reviewed October 7, 2026. The resolution and FPS figures are Steam’s stated targets, not results from independent testing.
#1 Best Overall
- Dive into a visceral combat experience, complete with viciously satisfying gunplay, high mobility and buckets of blood to reward your skills
- Dominate the battlefield with the awesome firepower and heavy metal of a Space Marine’s devastating arsenal
- Experience the ultimate homage to retro shooters, blending stylish visuals with fluid, modern FPS gameplay
| Tier | Operating system | Processor | Graphics | Memory | DirectX | Storage | Steam’s stated target |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Minimum | Windows 10 64-bit | Intel Core i5-8600K or AMD Ryzen 5 2600 | GeForce GTX 980 (4 GB), Radeon R9 Fury (4 GB), or Arc A580 | 8 GB RAM | DirectX 12 | 13 GB | Low quality, 1080p, 60 FPS |
| Recommended | Windows 11 64-bit | Intel Core i7-10700 or AMD Ryzen 7 2700X | GeForce RTX 2070 Super (8 GB) or Radeon RX 5700 XT (8 GB) | 16 GB RAM | DirectX 12 | 13 GB | High quality, 1440p, 60 FPS |
Use the comparison to identify whether your PC is below, around, or above a published tier—not to predict an exact frame rate. Steam does not state expected FPS or stuttering behavior for systems between or below these configurations. If a component falls short, that is a reason to temper expectations, not proof that an upgrade is necessary.
Why the official requirements do not match
Auroch’s FAQ lists an older and lighter-looking configuration than Steam’s current listing. The FAQ’s minimum is Windows 10, AMD Phenom II X4 965 or Intel Core i3-2120, 8 GB RAM, Radeon HD 7770 or GeForce GTX 560 with 1 GB VRAM, DirectX 11, and 5 GB storage. Its recommended line is Ryzen 5 1500X or Core i5-8400, 8 GB RAM, Radeon RX 580 or GTX 780 Ti with 3 GB VRAM, DirectX 11, and 5 GB storage. The FAQ does not give resolution or FPS targets for these tiers.

- Dive into a visceral combat experience, complete with viciously satisfying gunplay, high mobility and buckets of blood to reward your skills
- Dominate the battlefield with the awesome firepower and heavy metal of a Space Marine’s devastating arsenal

That conflicts with Steam’s DirectX 12 requirement, 13 GB storage, and substantially newer minimum and recommended hardware. Neither source explains whether the FAQ is outdated or refers to a different build. Check the official pages for updates rather than combining the two tables or assuming the lower FAQ specifications are safe for the final PC version.
Does the demo’s -dx11 option improve FPS?
No FPS benefit has been demonstrated. In a Steam community discussion opened May 21, 2026, players reported a Direct3D 12 startup crash in the demo. Some said the Steam launch option -dx11 let them start it; another said it did not work, and later reports said the crash persisted. These are mixed player anecdotes about launching the demo, not a developer-confirmed fix or a test of frame rate or stutter. They also do not establish DirectX 11 support in the full release.

- An introductory set for Warhammer 40,000
- Includes 12 push-fit miniatures, a gaming mat, accessories, and card terrain to get you playing games quickly
- A comprehensive guidebook will walk you through your first steps in building, painting, and playing games
- Includes a set of 6 essential paints to customise your miniatures
- These push-fit miniatures require assembly and are supplied unpainted
If the demo fails to start with that error, you can try the reported option as a temporary troubleshooting step:
- In Steam, open your Library and right-click the Boltgun 2 demo.
- Choose Properties and find the Launch Options field.
- Enter
-dx11, then try launching the demo. - If it does not help or causes another problem, remove
-dx11from the same field.
This is only a community-reported demo workaround; it is not a recommendation for improving FPS or reducing stutter.

What to do when the full game is available
Once the PC release is live, diagnose the symptom before changing settings: a game that will not start has a different problem from low average FPS or uneven frame pacing. A reliable performance comparison needs the same scene, resolution, graphics settings, game build, and driver version before and after a change. Without those controls, a smoother-looking result does not establish which change helped.
Recommended Free Tools
- Record your CPU, GPU, RAM, resolution, graphics preset, game build, and graphics driver version.
- Change one setting or system variable at a time and compare the same repeatable scene.
- Keep launch-crash troubleshooting separate from FPS and frame-time testing.
- Do not assume that a generic PC optimizer, cooling accessory, storage upgrade, or new graphics card will solve a Boltgun 2 performance problem; the available evidence establishes no universal hardware or software fix.
At present, there are no independently tested full-game settings or benchmark results to recommend. Auroch’s FAQ lists PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S, with a Nintendo Switch 2 version planned shortly after those platforms; the FAQ describes the game as single-player.
