How to Improve FPS and Reduce Lag in PUBG: BATTLEGROUNDS

To improve PUBG: BATTLEGROUNDS performance on PC, first determine whether the problem is low rendering performance or a network connection issue. Then follow PUBG Support’s maintenance sequence: clear old Steam launch options, verify the game files, update Windows and your graphics driver, remove overclocks while testing, and reinstall cleanly only if necessary.

PUBG’s published requirements are useful for finding an underpowered component, but they are not a guarantee of a particular frame rate. The recommended tier is described as capable of 144 FPS in most situations, with “most” depending on the scene, hardware configuration and settings.

Start by separating FPS problems from connection lag

Players use “lag” to describe several different symptoms. Treating them as the same problem sends you toward the wrong fix.

Low FPS and frame-time stutter

Low FPS means the PC is not rendering frames quickly enough. The image may feel consistently slow, or it may hitch when the game has to render a more demanding scene. Intermittent frame drops and stutter are also rendering symptoms, even when the average frame rate appears acceptable.

  • Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
  • Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
  • Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
  • Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
  • 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.

Maintenance steps, driver work and hardware checks are the appropriate first response to this category. A launch command or network change cannot repair a damaged game file or a graphics driver problem.

Connection lag

Connection lag is a network-path problem: the game may feel delayed, players may appear to jump, or actions may register late despite a stable rendering rate. The official material available for this guide does not establish a detailed router, DNS or latency-tuning procedure. Do not assume that a VPN, a registry edit or a universal DNS change will fix it.

A quick symptom check

  • Frames are low all the time: compare your CPU, GPU and RAM with PUBG’s published requirements and then complete the official maintenance steps.
  • Frames periodically drop or hitch: note when the problem began, check for a recent update or installation change, and test with stock hardware settings.
  • The game feels delayed while the picture remains smooth: investigate the connection separately; changing graphics quality is not a proven network fix.
  • The problem started after an update or driver change: begin with file verification, Windows updates and the graphics-driver installation path before changing game settings.

Compare your PC with PUBG’s published requirements

PUBG Support and Steam list the following Windows PC specifications. They are an older published baseline, not a current component-buying guide. Meeting the minimum means the game can meet its minimum operating target; it does not establish a specific FPS result.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
Component Minimum published specification Recommended published specification
Operating system Windows 10 Windows 10
Processor Intel Core i5-4430 or AMD FX-6300 Intel Core i5-6600K or AMD Ryzen 5 1600
Memory 8 GB RAM 16 GB RAM
Graphics NVIDIA GeForce GTX 960 2 GB or AMD Radeon R7 370 2 GB NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 3 GB or AMD Radeon RX 580 4 GB
Graphics API DirectX 11 DirectX 11
Network Broadband connection Broadband connection
Storage 40 GB 50 GB

PUBG Support says the recommended requirements are intended to run the game at 144 FPS in most situations. That wording is a qualified target, not a guarantee for every map, scene, resolution, background workload or graphics configuration. Neither the requirements page nor the support guidance supplies a controlled benchmark showing how many frames a particular setting or component upgrade adds.

How to use the comparison

Check the actual CPU model, installed RAM and GPU in Windows before buying anything. If a machine is below the listed baseline, an upgrade may be relevant, but the available official information does not identify a current best-value part or promise a frame-rate increase from one component.

Memory is listed as 8 GB minimum and 16 GB recommended. A system with less than the recommended amount should be treated as a candidate for investigation, not as proof that RAM alone causes every hitch. Likewise, a GPU below the published graphics baseline is a reason to assess hardware suitability, not a measured estimate of the FPS an upgrade will deliver.

Storage is part of the installation requirement, but PUBG’s official materials do not say that moving the game to an SSD increases FPS. Do not present an SSD as a guaranteed frame-rate or latency fix.

The “competitive” configuration is optional

PUBG Support also lists a configuration for high FPS and high-refresh monitors: an Intel Core i9-9900K, 32 GB RAM, and an NVIDIA RTX 2060 Super or AMD RX 5700. It is a recommendation for that use case, not a required competitive setup and not a promise that every system with those parts will produce a fixed frame rate.

Follow PUBG Support’s troubleshooting sequence

Complete these steps in order. After each major change, launch the game and check whether the original symptom changed. That makes it possible to identify the change that helped or introduced a new problem.

  1. Remove every Steam launch option

Open Steam, go to your Library, right-click PUBG: BATTLEGROUNDS, choose Properties, and stay on the General page. Find the Launch Options field and remove all text from it. PUBG Support says many old commands were recommended during early access and advises removing them so they do not cause issues. Do not replace them with a list copied from an old forum post.

  2. Verify the game files

In the same Steam Properties window, open Installed Files and select Verify integrity of game files. Steam checks for files that are corrupted, deleted or missing and replaces them as needed. Let the process finish before launching the game again. If it reports repaired files, test PUBG before making another change.

Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  3. Update Windows and restart

Open Windows Settings and use Windows Update to install available updates. Restart after updates complete. PUBG Support notes that Windows updates include services the game requires, so a pending update can matter even when the game itself has not changed.

  4. Update the graphics driver through the GPU vendor

Identify whether the system uses an NVIDIA or AMD GPU and obtain the driver through that vendor’s official update process. PUBG Support identifies outdated or corrupted graphics drivers as possible causes of performance and stability problems. Restart if the installer requests it, then test the game before adding third-party tuning tools.

  5. Return CPU, RAM and GPU clocks to stock settings

Disable overclocks in the system BIOS or the relevant hardware-control software while troubleshooting. PUBG Support acknowledges that overclocking can benefit in-game performance, but warns that operating outside the manufacturer’s recommended settings can cause problems. Its General Crashing and Performance Guide, updated February 26, 2026, states: “While overclocking hardware (CPU, RAM, GPU) can be beneficial for in-game performance, running hardware outside the manufacturer’s recommended settings can cause multiple different issues such as memory or file corruption and for troubleshooting purposes should be removed (through the systems BIOS).”

Use stock settings long enough to establish whether the symptom is still present. If stability returns, treat the overclock as a variable that needs separate validation rather than immediately restoring it.

  6. Test Fullscreen Optimizations

PUBG Support includes disabling Fullscreen Optimizations for TslGame.exe as an official troubleshooting option. Locate the executable, open its Windows compatibility properties, enable Disable fullscreen optimizations, apply the change and test. This is a diagnostic option, not a universally beneficial setting; keep it only if it changes your specific problem.

  7. Perform a clean reinstall only when needed

If file verification, Windows maintenance, driver work and stock hardware settings do not resolve the issue, PUBG Support describes a clean uninstall and reinstall. Its procedure includes deleting game-associated files and clearing Steam’s download cache. Follow the support instructions carefully and identify each path before deleting anything; casually removing folders can affect other Steam data or leave the installation in a less clear state.

After reinstalling, launch PUBG with an empty launch-options field and test before adding any custom software or tweaks. This gives you a known baseline.

  8. Send a complete report to PUBG Support

If the issue persists, contact PUBG Support with the date or event when it began, a precise description of what happens, any error message, DxDiag information and relevant crash dumps. Include whether file verification found replacements, whether the GPU driver was updated, and whether the problem remains with CPU, RAM and GPU clocks at manufacturer-recommended settings. Those details let support distinguish a reproducible installation or system issue from a connection symptom.

Observed pattern First comparison Evidence-supported next step
Consistently low FPS Are the CPU, GPU or RAM below PUBG’s published baseline? Compare the parts with the requirements, then complete file, Windows and driver maintenance before considering compatible hardware.
Intermittent frame drops or stutter Did it begin after an update, driver change, installation change or overclock? Verify files, update Windows and the driver, return clocks to stock and test Fullscreen Optimizations as a troubleshooting option.
Problem began after installing or changing files Does file verification report missing or corrupted data? Allow Steam to replace affected files; use the documented clean reinstall only if the problem continues.
Delayed actions or players jumping while rendering appears smooth Is the symptom primarily connection-related rather than frame-related? Keep the FPS investigation separate. The cited official guidance does not establish a universal router, DNS or VPN remedy.
Crashes continue after maintenance Can you provide a start date, error, DxDiag and crash dump? Send those details to PUBG Support rather than adding undocumented launch flags or registry edits.

Be cautious with graphics-setting advice

The official sources used here do not provide current, measured FPS effects for individual PUBG graphics settings, frame-time benchmarks or a tested “all low” preset. Therefore, no setting can be honestly presented as the measured winner for every PC.

If you change graphics options, make one deliberate change at a time and record the symptom it is intended to test. Keep resolution, display mode and other variables stable while comparing. A change that makes the image look less detailed may alter rendering load, but the available evidence does not support promising a particular number of additional frames.

Do not revive old early-access launch commands simply because they appear in a community guide. PUBG Support specifically advises clearing the launch-options field during troubleshooting. Avoid registry edits and undocumented configuration files unless PUBG Support directs you to use a particular one for your case.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

When a hardware upgrade is justified

Upgrade decisions should follow the requirements comparison, not a promised FPS gain. A GPU or RAM upgrade is reasonable to investigate when the current machine is below PUBG’s published minimum or recommended tier and maintenance has not addressed the symptom. Confirm motherboard compatibility, power, cooling, operating-system support and the complete part specification before purchasing.

The requirements page does not establish how much performance a GTX 1060, RX 580 or any newer card adds over another model. It also does not establish that replacing storage with an SSD increases FPS. Present those parts as compatibility and capacity considerations, not guaranteed lag fixes.

Players targeting a high-refresh display can use PUBG’s competitive configuration as a reference point, but that list is not a pass/fail requirement for ranked play. A system below it may still be usable, while a system at or above it can still encounter file, driver, thermal, software or connection problems.

Fixes to avoid during diagnosis

  • Old launch-flag collections: early-access commands may be obsolete or harmful; PUBG Support recommends an empty field.
  • Registry “FPS” tweaks: the cited official material supplies no validated registry change or measured benefit.
  • Assuming all-low graphics is universally best: no controlled comparison in the official sources ranks presets or settings.
  • Leaving an overclock active while troubleshooting: it adds a variable that PUBG Support says can cause corruption or other issues outside manufacturer settings.
  • Deleting installation folders casually: clean reinstall instructions include specific files and a Steam download-cache step; follow them carefully rather than guessing.
  • Using a VPN, DNS change or router tweak as a universal answer: the available guidance does not establish one for PUBG connection lag.
  • Buying a component on a guaranteed-FPS promise: the published requirements contain no controlled upgrade gains or current value ranking.

A practical order of operations

For a reproducible troubleshooting session, write down the symptom, when it started and whether it is rendering-related or connection-related. Then use the official sequence: empty Steam launch options, verify files, update Windows and restart, update the graphics driver, return CPU/RAM/GPU clocks to stock, and test Fullscreen Optimizations for TslGame.exe. If corruption or installation trouble remains, follow the documented clean reinstall; if that fails, submit the requested diagnostic details to PUBG Support.

This process does not promise a particular FPS number. It removes common software and configuration variables first, shows whether the computer is below PUBG’s published baseline, and keeps network symptoms from being confused with rendering performance.
