The distinction matters because a “30 FPS cap” is a ceiling, not a promise that the game will always reach 30 FPS, while “up to 60 FPS” is a maximum claim rather than a lock. First, identify your PS5 and installed game version
Check the hardware model

- Play the same route for several minutes with the current settings. Note camera judder, uneven pacing, delayed input, pop-in and drops during turns or attacks.
- Change one setting at a time. Restart the game only when the menu or update requests it; otherwise, return to the same save and repeat the route.
- Compare the result on the same display, with the same television picture mode and the same controller connection. Changing several variables at once makes the result impossible to attribute.
- Keep a simple record: console model, game version, selected graphics mode, motion-blur state, frame-cap state and what happened in the demanding area.
This is a practical observation method, not a laboratory frame-rate test. Without an independently measured result for your exact console, patch and scene, describe the outcome as “felt steadier” or “looked sharper,” not as a precise FPS number.

Best settings for PS5 (base model)
Use the graphics mode your current menu provides
Open the graphics/options menu and look for choices that prioritize image quality, resolution or visual effects versus frame rate or responsiveness. Select the frame-rate-oriented choice if camera movement and input response are your priority; select the visual-quality choice if a cleaner image matters more and occasional dips are acceptable. The available labels and the way each mode behaves can change with updates, so quote the label exactly as displayed on your console when helping someone else.

The 30 FPS cap: understand what it means
The same March 2024 report described a 30 FPS cap option. A cap limits the maximum presented rate to 30; it does not guarantee that every frame arrives on time or that the game reaches 30 in the busiest scene. It can still be useful when an uncapped mode produces visibly uneven pacing on your display, because a consistent ceiling may feel more predictable. Test both states in the same route and keep the one that feels steadier to you.

Do not present the historical cap as evidence that the current base PS5 runs at 30 FPS, nor as proof that an uncapped mode reaches a particular number. The option’s presence and behavior should be checked on your installed build.
Do not apply unverified console “tweaks”
The available evidence does not establish that disabling ray tracing, lowering a particular quality slider, forcing 120 Hz output or enabling VRR improves Dragon’s Dogma 2 on the current base PS5. Keep the mode if motion feels better without a distracting loss of detail. Switch to Fidelity mode when you prefer the visual presentation and accept that responsiveness may be less consistent.

Compare Fidelity and Performance in the same conditions
- Load the same save and wait for the scene to settle.
- Play the identical route in Performance mode, concentrating on camera turns, combat input and traversal.
- Return to the menu, select Fidelity mode and repeat the route.
- Choose the mode that matches your priority. Record the result with the patch number, because a later update can alter either mode.
This comparison is more defensible than translating Sony’s improvement statement into a universal FPS promise. Your display, scene and update can affect what you perceive even when the console and mode are the same.
When a Pro purchase is relevant
A PS5 Pro is an optional hardware upgrade, not a required fix for the game. Sony’s documentation gives it a documented Dragon’s Dogma 2 benefit, but the console’s cost is substantial compared with changing a free in-game option. Camera movement still looks smeared
- Open the game’s current graphics/options menu and confirm whether a motion-blur toggle is present.
