What’s actually slowing this PC down?

Start with the audio controls already on your phone. On iPhone, accessibility settings can correct left-right imbalance or personalize supported headphones; Apple TV’s Enhance Dialogue can make voices stand out in supported videos; and the Music app has separate EQ and volume-normalization controls. These options work in different places, so choose the one that matches what you are listening to.
First, identify what needs to sound clearer
- One side sounds quieter: check left-right balance, or try mono audio if stereo separation makes content difficult to follow.
- Speech is too soft in headphones: try Headphone Accommodations if your device and headphones support it.
- Video dialogue is buried under music or effects: use Enhance Dialogue for supported content in the Apple TV app.
- Music sounds too bright, dull, or uneven in level: adjust EQ or Sound Check in Apple’s Music app.
These are not universal sound-enhancement switches. The dialogue feature is limited to supported Apple TV content, while Music EQ and Sound Check affect playback in the Music app.

Adjust left-right balance or use mono audio on iPhone
On iPhone, open Settings > Accessibility > Audio & Visual. The Balance control shifts audio between the left and right channels, which can help if one side is harder to hear or a headphone channel seems quieter. Mono Audio sends the same content to both sides, rather than preserving separate left- and right-channel audio. Apple describes these controls in its Audio & Visual accessibility settings.
Try balance first when the problem is an uneven side. Mono may be useful when stereo separation makes speech or other content harder to follow, but it changes the intended stereo presentation of music. Switch it off when you want to hear stereo as mixed.

Make soft headphone audio easier to hear with Headphone Accommodations
On a compatible Apple device with supported headphones, Headphone Accommodations can amplify soft sounds and adjust selected frequencies. In Settings > Accessibility > Audio & Visual > Headphone Accommodations, turn on the feature, preview the available choices, and select whether to apply the adjustment to Phone, Media, or both. Apple’s Headphone Accommodations guide explains the feature and supported AirPods options; check the compatibility information for your exact headphones.
Choose the setting that makes speech or music easier to distinguish at a comfortable listening level. Simply increasing amplification may make audio louder without making it clearer.

Bring dialogue forward in supported Apple TV videos
For supported videos in the Apple TV app, Apple provides a dialogue-specific control. First enable Add Voice Isolation in Settings > Accessibility > Audio & Visual. Then, while viewing supported content in the Apple TV app, open the playback controls, choose Audio, and select Enhance Dialogue. Apple says that “During dialogue, voices are isolated and all other audio is substantially reduced.” See Apple’s Audio & Visual settings guidance.
This is not a setting for every video, streaming app, or phone call. If Audio does not offer Enhance Dialogue for the content you are watching, that content may not support the feature.

Adjust music separately in the iPhone Music app
In the Music app on iPhone, EQ presets change the sound’s tonal balance; Sound Check adjusts playback levels to normalize volume between songs. They solve different problems: try EQ if the music sounds too sharp or muted, and Sound Check if track-to-track loudness changes are distracting. Apple documents both under Change the way music sounds on iPhone.
These are Music app controls, not system-wide audio settings. Compare a preset or Sound Check at a comfortable volume, and turn off a change that makes the mix less natural to you.
