Repair common Windows errors and clear accumulated junk for a smoother, more stable PC - no reinstall needed.Free scan · no reinstallFor smoother The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild emulation in Cemu, start by selecting Vulkan if your GPU and driver support it, enabling asynchronous shader compilation, and checking that Cemu is using your intended graphics card. Then review the game’s current FPS++ graphic pack and its notes. These steps can help with compatibility or shader stutter, but they do not guarantee a particular frame rate; diagnose your PC’s bottleneck before considering an upgrade.
Start with Cemu’s graphics settings
- Select Vulkan when supported. In Cemu’s graphics settings, choose Vulkan if your graphics card and driver support it. Cemu recommends a GPU supporting OpenGL 4.5 or Vulkan 1.1; Vulkan is not an option on every compatible system. See Cemu’s Performance Guide for its current guidance.
- Enable asynchronous shader compilation. Cemu recommends this setting to reduce shader-compilation stutter in most games. It is aimed at smoother shader loading, not a guaranteed increase in sustained frame rate. Follow the description in your installed Cemu version; older release notes describe possible temporary missing graphics while some pipelines compile, but that historical behavior should not be assumed for every current build. See the Cemu release notes if investigating a version-specific issue.
- Check the selected graphics device. On a system with integrated and discrete graphics, confirm Cemu is using the intended, more capable GPU rather than the integrated one. The exact controls for selecting a device can vary by Cemu version and driver.
Cemu’s general RAM guidance is at least 4 GB, with 8 GB or more recommended. These are emulator-level recommendations, not a Breath of the Wild performance guarantee or a prediction of frame rate.

Check Breath of the Wild’s FPS++ graphic pack
Cemu identifies Breath of the Wild’s FPS++ pack as an example of a graphic pack that can improve performance. Open Cemu’s Graphic Packs window and use its community graphic-pack download function to get the currently available pack. Read the pack’s current options and notes before enabling or changing settings: options can change between pack versions, so old setup presets may not match what you have installed. Cemu’s official FAQ also names FPS++ as a performance-related pack for Breath of the Wild.

Diagnose what is limiting performance
Before changing multiple settings or buying parts, note when slowdowns occur and check CPU, GPU, RAM use, resolution, graphics driver, and Cemu version. A graphics API limitation or exhausted VRAM points to a different issue than a CPU bottleneck or shader stutter. Community compatibility reports are tied to particular hardware and software versions; they cannot establish the frame rate your PC should achieve.

Cemu’s Breath of the Wild compatibility page warns that, as of Cemu 2.6, GPUs with 2–3 GB of VRAM or less may struggle in Hyrule Castle, where the emulator uses more VRAM. This is a location-specific, version-qualified warning—not a universal VRAM cutoff or a benchmark for the rest of the game.
Choose the next step based on the symptom
| What you notice | What to check first | What the evidence supports |
|---|---|---|
| Stutters when shaders are compiling | Asynchronous shader compilation and the Cemu version | Cemu recommends the setting to reduce shader stutter; it does not promise higher sustained FPS. |
| Performance issues after enabling a pack | FPS++ pack version, selected options, and current pack notes | Cemu identifies FPS++ as a performance-related example; no single preset is established as best for every setup. |
| Slowdowns in Hyrule Castle on a low-VRAM GPU | GPU VRAM use and the Cemu version | Cemu’s page, as of version 2.6, flags 2–3 GB VRAM or less as potentially troublesome in that area. |
| Low performance without shader stutter or a clear VRAM issue | CPU, GPU, RAM use, resolution, driver, and graphics-device selection | The available Cemu guidance does not identify a universal fix or expected frame rate; determine which resource is limiting your system. |
A Vulkan-compatible graphics card is worth considering only if your current GPU lacks the required graphics API support or is demonstrably constrained by VRAM or capability. An upgrade may not help if the CPU or another part of the setup is the limit. Cemu’s general minimum recommendations—OpenGL 4.5 or Vulkan 1.1 support and 4 GB RAM, with 8 GB or more recommended—are starting points, not assurances of smooth play.
