Switch off Always On Display
On the watch, open Settings > Display and switch off Always On Display. Depending on the model, the control may instead be under Watch faces > Watch always on; some models also allow the change in the Galaxy Wearable app. With Always On Display off, the time is not continuously visible on the watch face. Samsung identifies AOD as a feature that uses more battery.

Lower brightness and shorten the timeout
In the watch’s display settings, reduce brightness to a level you can comfortably read and choose a shorter screen timeout if available. This means the screen will be dimmer or turn off sooner, so you may need to wake it more often.
Reduce unnecessary wakeups
If the screen often turns on by accident, turn off wake gestures or touch-to-wake where your model offers those controls. You can also cover the display with your palm to turn it off when you are finished using it. Samsung’s menu names and available wake options differ across models.
How can I reduce notifications and background connections?
Stop unneeded app alerts from reaching the watch
In Galaxy Wearable, open Notifications and turn off alerts for apps you do not need on your wrist. Samsung also documents controls for automatically showing notification details and turning on the screen when notifications arrive. Fewer alerts mean fewer interruptions and screen activations, but you will see fewer notifications on the watch.

Switch off a connection only when you can do without it
- Wi-Fi: Turn it off when the watch is not using a Wi-Fi network.
- Mobile networks: If your watch has LTE service, switching this off disconnects it from its carrier network.
- Bluetooth: Switching it off disconnects the watch from your phone.
- GPS: Reduce or disable GPS use when you do not need location tracking; location features may be affected.
- Assistant voice wake-up: Turn off Bixby or Google Assistant voice wake-up if you do not use it.
Availability and menu paths vary by model. Avoid turning off Bluetooth or mobile service if you rely on the corresponding connection for calls, notifications, or other connected functions.
Should I change heart-rate or stress monitoring?
On applicable models, Samsung lists options to measure heart rate and stress every 10 minutes or manually rather than continuously. Less frequent measurement means less ongoing monitoring, so choose a setting that suits the health information you want to receive.
Watch7 and Watch Ultra: Limit health features
Samsung documents a Limit health features option for Galaxy Watch7 and Galaxy Watch Ultra. Enabling it disables workout auto-detection, certain high- and low-heart-rate alerts, background heart-rate monitoring, and movement and respiration tracking during sleep. Samsung says sleep score will not be calculated while this option is enabled.

What does Power Saving mode do?
Power Saving mode reduces several kinds of activity at once. Samsung’s general descriptions include switching off Always On Display and Wi-Fi, disabling wake gestures, limiting CPU performance, and restricting background network, location, and sync activity. Depending on the watch, it may also reduce brightness or screen timeout.

Reduced performance and connectivity can affect how quickly apps respond and which features work in the background.
Special options on Watch Ultra
Samsung also documents Exercise power saving for Watch Ultra. During workouts, it can reduce GPS and heart-rate accuracy, turn off Bluetooth, block network connections, and disable audio guidance. Use it only if those trade-offs are acceptable for the activity; it is not a general setting for every Galaxy Watch.

When should I use Watch Only mode?
Samsung describes Watch Only mode as an option for extending daily battery life during rest or other downtime when smart functions are unnecessary. It is a restrictive fallback rather than a way to keep using the watch normally: do not expect the usual notifications, apps, and connected features while it is active. Check your model’s settings for availability and instructions.
Why might a new watch drain faster, and what should I check?
Give a newly set-up watch time to settle
Samsung says setup, app installations, and learning usage patterns can increase battery drain during about the first week. Its guidance is that performance should optimize as the watch learns your usage; this is not a guaranteed deadline.
Inspect the watch and charging equipment
Check the watch and charger for physical or liquid damage. Use a Samsung-approved charger and accessories designed for your exact watch model; Samsung warns that a third-party charger may not charge the watch properly. A different charger is not a runtime upgrade—it is relevant when the existing charger is missing, damaged, or unreliable.

Very hot or cold conditions can shorten battery life or damage the watch. Avoid leaving it in temperature extremes.
Run a battery diagnostic if the drain stays unusual
If the watch continues to drain unusually quickly after you have reviewed its settings and allowed for the setup period, Samsung recommends checking it with Samsung Members on a paired Samsung phone. Use the app’s watch battery diagnostic to investigate rather than assuming a new accessory or repair is needed.
Why do the instructions differ between Galaxy Watch models?
Samsung notes that settings and features do not apply to every model. Menu names, available controls, and Power Saving mode behavior can also vary with software version.
