You can move bookmarks, browsing history, saved passwords, and cookies into Opera Air from a supported browser through Settings > Synchronization > Import bookmarks and settings. Choose the source browser and data categories, then select Import. If password import is unavailable or incomplete, export a password CSV from the old browser and load it through Opera Air’s Password Manager.
Importing is a one-time migration into the current Opera Air installation. Signing in to an Opera account afterward is a separate step that synchronizes supported data across Opera browsers.

Depending on the source and Opera Air release, the import dialog can offer bookmarks, browsing history, saved passwords, and cookies. The available checkboxes are not necessarily identical for every browser profile, so treat the categories shown in the dialog as the authoritative list for that import.

Prepare the old browser before importing
Close the source browser
Install or open Opera Air, then close the old browser before starting. Opera’s picker may be unable to read a profile that is still in use. If you have several browser windows or background processes open, close those as well and retry.
Identify the profile you actually use
Chrome, Firefox, Safari, and Yandex can contain more than one profile or browsing identity. The importer may select a profile automatically, but you should verify the result afterward. A work profile, guest profile, or newly created profile can contain few or none of your expected bookmarks and passwords.
Decide whether you need a local migration or account sync
Import copies data into this Opera Air installation. It does not, by itself, make that data available on another computer or phone. If you want supported data on multiple signed-in Opera browsers, plan to enable Opera account synchronization after checking the local import.
Import bookmarks, history, passwords, and cookies directly
- Open Opera Air’s settings. Select Settings, then locate Import bookmarks and settings under Synchronization. If you start from the Bookmarks manager, its import control routes you to the same settings area.
- Choose the source browser. Select Chrome, Firefox, Safari, Yandex, or another source offered by your installation. If the browser is not listed, use the file-based alternatives described below.
- Select the categories. Choose the data types displayed by the importer. Opera documents bookmarks, browsing history, saved passwords, and cookies as import categories, but a particular source may expose only some of them.
- Start the transfer. Select Import and wait for Opera Air to finish. Do not reopen the source browser until the operation has completed.
- Check the result. Open Opera Air’s bookmarks manager and history. Then open the Password Manager and look for several known logins. If cookies were offered and selected, check the sites that depend on an existing session; a cookie transfer does not guarantee that every website session remains valid.
How to import passwords with a CSV file
A CSV file is the practical fallback when automatic password import is missing, when the wrong profile was selected, or when bookmarks and history arrived but saved logins did not.

Export from the old browser
- Open the old browser’s Password Manager.
- Use its password export command, such as Download file, and save the CSV temporarily in a location you can protect.
- Transfer the file to the device running Opera Air using a private, controlled method.
Import into Opera Air
- Open Settings.
- Go to Advanced > Privacy & security > Autofill > Passwords.
- Open the Password Manager’s settings and choose Select file.
- Pick the exported CSV and confirm the import.
- Search for several known accounts in Opera Air’s saved-password list, then test autofill on a site only after confirming that the entries are present.
Opera warns that a password CSV contains sensitive information. Treat it as a secret: do not email it, leave it in a shared cloud-download folder, or keep an extra unencrypted copy. Delete the CSV after the import and empty the operating system’s recycle or trash area if appropriate. If you made several copies during transfer, remove each one.
Verify each type of migrated data
Bookmarks
Open the bookmarks manager and inspect the folder tree, not just the bookmarks bar. Look for nested folders and a few URLs from different folders. An HTML-file import is limited to bookmarks, so it cannot restore history, cookies, or passwords.
Browsing history
Open History and search for entries you know were created in the old browser. History can be large, so checking several dates or domains is more useful than checking only the most recent item.
Saved passwords
Search the Password Manager for accounts from different sites. A visible entry confirms that the credential record arrived; it does not prove that a site will accept it, because websites can invalidate sessions or require a fresh sign-in.

Cookies
Cookies may be offered by the direct importer, but their availability depends on the source and release. A cookie is tied to a particular site and session, so some services may still ask you to authenticate again even after cookies were selected.

The direct importer is the shortest route when your old browser and profile are recognized. HTML and CSV files are more portable fallbacks, but each covers only one data class. Sync is not a replacement for the initial import: it distributes supported Opera data after migration rather than reading an arbitrary source-browser profile.
Turn on Opera sync after the local import
- Finish the local import and verify the entries you care about.
- Sign in to an Opera account in Opera Air.
- Enable synchronization for the supported categories you want to share.
- Sign in to your other Opera browsers and allow the data to merge.
Opera says sync can include bookmarks, Speed Dial entries, browsing history, passwords, settings, and open tabs. The distinction matters: an import is a one-time copy into one installation, while sync propagates supported Opera data after sign-in. Opera’s help does not promise that every item in a source browser’s profile will transfer, so keep the local verification step even when sync is enabled.

A profile backup is useful when the source browser is on another disk or when you may need to recover an older installation. Store the backup somewhere access-controlled, and remember that encrypted password data is still sensitive because it belongs to your browser profile.

The import command is hard to find
Open Settings and look under Synchronization for Import bookmarks and settings. Starting from Bookmarks should lead to the same settings location. The command is not a separate, permanent browser tab.
The old browser does not appear
Close the old browser completely and reopen Opera Air. Confirm that the source is one of the documented choices: Chrome, Firefox, Safari, Yandex, or a bookmarks HTML file. If the source remains unavailable, export bookmarks to HTML and passwords to CSV, then import those files through the corresponding Opera Air controls.
Bookmarks arrived but passwords did not
Check the import categories that were selected and verify that Opera Air used the correct source profile. Retry with the old browser closed. If saved passwords still do not appear, use the Password Manager CSV workflow; it is separate from bookmark and history import.
Passwords are present but autofill does not work
Search the Password Manager for the account and confirm that the site address matches the service you are visiting. Some websites require a new login after migration, even when the saved credential record is present. Do not assume that a transferred cookie or password preserves an existing session.
History or cookies are missing
Source-specific checkboxes can differ. Retry with the correct profile and inspect the categories offered by that source. A bookmarks HTML file cannot restore history or cookies, and the password CSV route restores passwords only.
The transfer created uncertainty about what is current
Stop before deleting the old browser profile. Compare a small set of known bookmarks, history entries, and passwords in both browsers. Keep the old profile or a backup until the Opera Air copy has been verified and any needed CSV file has been securely removed.
Security checklist for a password migration
- Use a private device and an access-controlled folder for exported files.
- Never send a password CSV through email or leave it in a shared download location.
- Do not retain multiple unencrypted copies after the import.
- Delete the CSV and clear the recycle or trash area when the migration is complete.
- Keep profile backups, including Login Data, protected like other credential material.
- Verify the imported entries before removing the old browser or its backup.
What to do when automatic import is not enough
Use the direct importer first because it can handle several data categories in one operation. Use a bookmarks HTML file when you need a portable bookmark-only transfer, and use a password CSV when credentials are absent or the source profile cannot be read. Once the local data is correct, enable Opera account sync only if you need the supported data on other signed-in Opera browsers.
