How to Identify a Song in a Snapchat Video and Find It on Spotify or Apple Music

First, tap a sound label on the Snapchat video if one is shown. If it doesn’t reveal the track, play the clip and use Shazam to identify the audio; you can then open the result in Spotify or Apple Music when that option is available.

Check the Snapchat video for a sound label

On a Spotlight post, look for a sound name or music icon. Snapchat says some Spotlight videos show a trending-sound context card; tapping it opens a page with other posts using the same sound. You can also tap a visible Sound pill, or tap the sound at the bottom of a Spotlight Snap to open its Sound Topic page. These are the quickest ways to inspect the audio without leaving Snapchat.

These labels are not guaranteed to appear: Snapchat says context cards are rolling out gradually and are available only in some countries. Also, Snapchat uses “Sounds” broadly. A label may refer to music or to a recording made with Snapchat’s Sounds tool, so it does not necessarily identify an official song title and artist. See Snapchat’s explanation of Context Cards and instructions for adding music to a Snap.

Use Shazam when the label is missing or unclear

Play the video at the part where the music is clearest, with the audio audible from your device, then start Shazam recognition. Apple documents identifying music playing in other apps on iPhone, iPad, and Android. On iPhone or iPad, you can also use Music Recognition in Control Center while the clip plays, or ask Siri to identify music playing around you. Apple’s steps cover other apps generally; they do not guarantee recognition for every Snapchat clip, device, or operating-system setup. See Apple’s Shazam identification instructions.

Improve the audio sample if Shazam does not identify it

  • Replay a longer section where the song is more prominent.
  • Choose a part with less speech or background noise, and make sure the audio is playing clearly from the device.
  • Try another section if the clip is short, muffled, remixed, or sped up. Recognition is not guaranteed, especially for altered or user-created audio.

Open the identified track in Spotify or Apple Music

After Shazam returns a match, open the track’s details and choose Spotify or Apple Music if Shazam offers that service. Shazam can connect with supported music services; it can also sync recognized songs to a Spotify playlist called “My Shazam Tracks.” Apple documents Apple Music syncing separately. Availability can vary by country or region, and recognizing a song is distinct from streaming the full recording: playback may depend on access to the selected service. See Apple’s guide to using Shazam with music services and its instructions for listening to identified songs in other apps.

Which route should you try first?

Route Best when What it can tell you Limit
Snapchat sound label or Sound Topic page A sound label is visible, especially on a Spotlight video Opens the sound page and may show other posts using it Context cards are a limited rollout; the sound may be user-created audio rather than an official catalog track
Shazam recognition No useful label appears, or the label does not identify the song Can identify music playing in another app on supported iPhone, iPad, and Android setups Depends on an audible sample and does not promise a match for every clip; service availability varies

When a Snapchat sound link is not song recognition

Snapchat also describes integrations that can connect a Featured Sound in a Snap or Story to a preferred streaming platform through Linkfire. That is a route for a featured sound with an available link, not a way to identify any unlabeled video. Snapchat’s Spotify integration, meanwhile, lets people share currently playing music on Snap Map. See Snapchat’s overview of integration partners and features.
