Choose a release before installing
Why pin version 1.9.0 (ID 6559)
The documented official release is pack 102, version 6559, shown to users as Legend of the Eyes 1.9.0. Selecting both identifiers gives you a precise target for the server and for every client. It also makes troubleshooting easier: when a player reports a missing mod or a mismatch, you can compare their installation against one known release rather than an installer that selected whatever is newest.
When the latest-release option is appropriate
The installer can select the latest stable release when no version is supplied. That is convenient for a new, short-lived test server, but a later release can change the mod list, configuration files, or requirements. For a shared world, write down the pack ID and version ID you chose and update deliberately rather than allowing an unattended change.

Prepare the host machine
Use a dedicated writable directory
Create a directory used only by this server, and make sure the account running the installer can create and modify files there. Keeping the installation separate prevents unrelated files from being mistaken for pack content and makes it straightforward to identify the generated startup script and logs.
Install or allow Java 17
Java 17 is the documented requirement. The official installer can download the correct Java version for you. If you already manage Java on the machine, the command-line option -no-java tells the installer not to download its own runtime; in that case, verify that the Java executable available to the server is Java 17 before starting the pack.
Plan memory realistically
Do not treat the 4 GB minimum as the amount of total system memory. It is the server allocation floor. Leave additional memory for the operating system, file caching, and a Minecraft client if you intend to play on the same computer. FTB lists 6 GB as the recommendation, but it does not publish a player-count formula, so there is no official conversion from “number of players” to a guaranteed RAM amount.
Download the official server installer
- Open FTB’s Legend of the Eyes Server Files page.
- Select release 1.9.0 (ID 6559), then choose the operating system on which the server will run.
- Download the installer into a temporary location or directly into your prepared server directory.
- Keep the downloaded filename unchanged. FTB’s guide says the filename carries pack information, so renaming it can prevent the installer from identifying the intended pack and version.
For macOS, FTB provides this equivalent download command. It retrieves the installer for pack 102 and version 6559 and then marks it executable:

Install the server files on Windows
Graphical installation
- Place the downloaded executable in the target server directory.
- Double-click the executable.
- Allow it to download and extract the pack files when prompted.
- Wait for the process to finish before attempting to start the server.
The guide says the installer creates a run.bat startup file in that folder. Keep that file with the rest of the generated server files; it is the normal entry point for later launches.

You can state the pack and release explicitly instead of relying on the installer’s selection interface:
serverinstaller.exe -pack 102 -version 6559Run the command from the directory where you want the files installed, or use the installer’s directory-selection capability if you prefer to keep the executable elsewhere. The explicit IDs are useful when you are recreating a server or documenting an existing deployment.

Install the server files on macOS or Linux
Make the installer executable
From the target directory, grant execute permission to the downloaded file:

Start it with:

./serverinstaller -pack <pack_id> -version <version_id>For Legend of the Eyes, replace the variables with 102 and 6559. The binary downloads, validates, and extracts the server files. It can also select an install directory and download Java unless you pass -no-java.
Complete the first launch
- After installation finishes, open the generated startup script:
run.baton Windows, or the generated Unix-style launch script on macOS/Linux. - Read the console output. The first run may create additional configuration files and stop while requesting EULA acceptance.
- Follow the EULA prompt exactly as presented by the generated files. Do not allow players to connect until the prompt has been completed.
- Start the script again and watch the console for a normal server-ready state before attempting to join.
The official material establishes the installer and first-launch workflow, but it does not publish a universal command for router port forwarding or host-firewall rules. Those settings vary by operating system, firewall software, router, and whether players connect from the same local network. Use documentation specific to your environment rather than applying an unrelated command copied from another server guide.

Make every client match the server
Each player should install the same FTB Legend of the Eyes release as the server: Minecraft 1.19.2, Fabric, and the pinned pack release 1.9.0 (ID 6559). A client that has a different pack version can contain different mods, configuration files, or dependencies even when its title looks similar in a launcher.
- Compare the displayed pack version, not only the name “Legend of the Eyes.”
- Confirm that the client is using Minecraft 1.19.2.
- Confirm that the launcher selected Fabric for this pack.
- Remove or repair a partial installation rather than copying individual mods into a working instance; the server and client need a coherent release.
When a join attempt reports a missing mod, an extra mod, or an incompatible loader, check these three values first. They are the compatibility metadata FTB publishes for the documented release.

Self-hosting gives you direct control of the files and lets you pin version 6559, but you are responsible for the machine, Java runtime, updates, access controls, and network configuration. FTB’s hosting listing names BisectHosting as a managed option. The available material does not establish its current pricing, service-level terms, supported geography, or a player-count guarantee, so obtain those details directly before purchasing.

Updating without losing reproducibility
Keep a record of the installed release
Record “FTB Legend of the Eyes, pack 102, version 6559, Minecraft 1.19.2, Fabric” alongside the server directory. This small inventory prevents an administrator from accidentally selecting the latest stable release during a reinstall.

Use the installer’s update and validation abilities
FTB describes the installer as a single binary that downloads, updates, and extracts the pack. It can validate files and select a release. If files become incomplete, rerun the installer for the same pack and version rather than replacing individual files from an unrelated client. Validation is especially useful after an interrupted download or a move to another directory.
Test a new release separately
A later release may alter files or requirements. If you decide to move beyond 1.9.0, treat it as a planned change: note the new version ID, install it in a separate directory, confirm that clients can install the same release, and only then schedule the switch. The documented workflow does not provide a guarantee that worlds or configurations are unchanged across releases.

The installer will not start
- Check that you did not rename the installer.
- On macOS or Linux, run
chmod +xand invoke the file with./. - On Windows, run the executable from the intended directory or use the explicit
-pack 102 -version 6559command. - Verify that the account has write permission to the destination directory.
The server reports a Java error
- Use Java 17, which is the documented runtime for the pack.
- If you selected
-no-java, confirm that your manually managed Java installation is actually version 17 and is visible to the account launching the script. - If you did not select
-no-java, allow the installer to download its supported Java runtime and retry the generated startup script.
The server stops during first launch
- Read the console for the EULA request and complete that step before restarting.
- Check that the installer finished extracting files and that the startup script is in the same directory.
- Confirm that the host can provide at least 4 GB to the server while still leaving memory for the operating system.
A player cannot join because of mismatched files
- Compare the client’s pack release with 1.9.0 (ID 6559).
- Confirm Minecraft 1.19.2 and Fabric on both sides.
- Repair or reinstall the complete client pack instead of adding random individual mods.
Players outside the local network cannot connect
The FTB pages used for this installation do not specify port numbers, router steps, or firewall commands. First establish whether the server works for a local client, then consult the documentation for your operating system, router, and firewall. Keep the server directory and Java configuration unchanged while isolating the network issue; otherwise you may create a file-version problem at the same time as a connectivity problem.
A practical launch checklist
- Dedicated writable directory created.
- Installer filename preserved.
- Pack 102 and version 6559 selected, unless you have intentionally chosen another documented release.
- Java 17 available, either downloaded by the installer or managed by you.
- At least 4 GB assigned to the server; 6 GB planned when following FTB’s recommendation.
- Installer completed download, validation, and extraction.
- Generated startup script present.
- EULA prompt completed.
- Server reaches a ready state without a Java or file error.
- Every player has Minecraft 1.19.2, Fabric, and the same pack release.
- Network and firewall changes handled according to the host’s own documentation.
What the official instructions do—and do not—specify
The official workflow is strong on obtaining a reproducible server package: it identifies the pack and release, supplies platform installers, can download Java, and creates the launch files. It does not publish a universal RAM formula by player count, router port-forwarding commands, firewall recipes, backup policy, monitoring setup, or moderation procedure. Those are environment-specific operational decisions, so do not infer a single command or capacity promise from the pack’s 4 GB minimum and 6 GB recommendation.
