The most important rule is version consistency: every client and the server must use the same ATM7 To the Sky release, Minecraft version, loader, and configuration. Mixing regular ATM7 files with the skyblock pack, or updating only one side, is a common cause of failed joins and damaged worlds.

What you are installing
All the Mods 7 – To the Sky is an ATMTeam skyblock modpack for Minecraft 1.18.2. Its progression starts with a single tree and expands into technology and magic systems, including Twilight Forest, Alchemistry, and the Ex Machinis automation add-on. CurseForge listed release 1.2.3 as the latest release on April 18, 2023 and provided a matching server-1.2.3 download. The project page displayed 2,144,717 downloads in 2023.

The release number is a lock, not a suggestion. If CurseForge later shows a newer ATM7 To the Sky file, install that newer server archive and make the clients use the same release; do not combine it with the 1.2.3 files described here.

Requirements before you begin
A host machine that can stay online
Self-hosting requires a computer or virtual machine that remains powered on whenever people want to play. Reserve at least 6 GB for the server process and leave additional physical memory for the operating system, file cache, and any other services. Assigning every available gigabyte to Java can make the host unstable even when the server itself has enough memory.
The general AllTheMods guidance gives 8–12 GB as a recommended maximum for client instances. That figure describes a player’s client, not a mandatory server allocation, but it is useful context when deciding whether a small desktop, a separate home server, or a rented machine has enough headroom for both client and server workloads.

The server package must run on the Java version required for its Minecraft 1.18.2 distribution. The setup guide warns that a machine with several Java installations can select the wrong one when you type java normally. Check the runtime that will actually launch the server rather than assuming the operating system’s default is correct:
java -versionIf that command reports the wrong runtime, install the required Java version and either change the system path or call the desired executable by its full path in the startup script. On Windows, this is commonly a path ending in java.exe; on Linux, use the distribution’s installed Java path. The important test is that the executable used by the server reports the version expected by the pack.
Storage, permissions, and network access
- Use a clean directory dedicated to this server. Give the account running it permission to create and modify world, configuration, log, and library files.
- For home hosting, you need control of the operating system firewall and router. Players outside your home network must be able to reach the server port configured by the server files.
- For rented hosting, you need FTP/SFTP credentials or access to the provider’s file manager unless the provider offers a compatible modpack installer.
- Keep a separate backup location. A backup on the same disk does not protect the world from disk failure or an accidental deletion.
Download the matching ATM7 To the Sky server files
- Open the All the Mods 7 – To the Sky project on CurseForge and select the release you intend to run.
- For the release covered in this guide, choose Minecraft 1.18.2 and version 1.2.3, then obtain the corresponding
server-1.2.3archive from the file’s additional server-files area. - Create a new, empty server directory. Do not extract the archive over a regular ATM7 installation or over an older skyblock world.
- Extract every file into that directory, preserving the folders supplied by the archive.
- If files disappear or become corrupted during extraction, temporarily exclude this server directory from third-party antivirus scanning, extract the archive again, and restore normal protection after verifying the files.
Download the client pack separately through the launcher your players use. The client and server archives serve different purposes; the presence of a client installation does not replace the dedicated server files.

Install and launch a self-hosted server
1. Prepare the loader and Java path
Use the NeoForge/Forge installer supported by the pack when one is available. If the host does not provide an installer, follow the startup files included with the pack or the custom-jar/ServerStarter procedure described in the AllTheMods server guide. Do not substitute a loader build from an unrelated Minecraft version.
Before launching, open the supplied Windows or Linux script and check which Java command and memory arguments it uses. If the script calls a generic java command on a multi-Java system, replace it with the verified executable path or correct the system path first.
2. Run the supplied startup script once
Start the Windows or Linux script from the server directory. The AllTheMods scripts check for a valid Java installation and the EULA state, install or update the configured Forge version, apply the JVM and RAM settings, and can restart the process after a crash. The first run may stop while it creates files that require your confirmation.
3. Accept the EULA
Read Mojang’s EULA, then open the generated eula.txt file and change the setting to:
eula=trueSave the file and run the same startup script again. If the server still stops immediately, inspect the console output and log rather than repeatedly deleting files; the error usually identifies Java, a missing library, or a permissions problem.

4. Set memory deliberately
Configure the script or host panel to allocate at least 6 GB to the server, while retaining headroom for the operating system and other applications. Start with a sensible value for the number of players and increase it only when logs and performance indicate that additional memory is useful. More allocated memory cannot compensate for a wrong Java runtime, missing files, or a network that players cannot reach.
5. Confirm a local connection
Join from the same machine or local network using the address appropriate to your setup. Wait until the console reports that the world has finished loading. A successful local connection proves that the files, loader, Java path, and EULA are working before you add router rules or invite players over the internet.
Make a home server reachable
Configure the firewall
Create an inbound firewall rule for the server executable or for the port defined by the server configuration. Apply the rule only to the network profiles you actually need. If the operating system asks whether Java may communicate, allow the verified server runtime, not an old Java installation that happens to be on the machine.
Forward the configured port on the router
In the router’s port-forwarding page, send the Minecraft server port to the host computer’s local IP address. Give the host a reserved local address so the forwarding rule does not break after a DHCP change. The server properties file and host panel determine the port; use that value rather than copying a number from an unrelated tutorial.

Players outside your home network need the public address shown by your internet connection, plus a port if your configuration uses a non-default value. Players on the same home network normally use the host’s local address. Test from a different network, such as a phone hotspot, before announcing the address to everyone.

Some internet providers place customers behind carrier-grade NAT, which prevents ordinary inbound forwarding. If a correctly configured firewall and router still cannot accept an external test, ask the provider whether inbound hosting is supported or use managed hosting instead.
Keep every client identical to the server
Each player should install exactly the server’s Minecraft version, ATM7 To the Sky release, loader, and configuration files. A client can appear to have the same mod list while still failing because a configuration file or loader build differs.
- Tell players to select the same 1.2.3 release when that is the server version.
- Do not copy files from regular All the Mods into the To the Sky directory.
- Do not add or remove mods casually on a live world. A server-side change can prevent clients from joining or alter existing blocks and machines.
- Back up the world and configuration before changing the pack version, loader, or installed mods.
Self-hosting versus managed modded-Minecraft hosting
Neither approach is universally better. Self-hosting is attractive when you already have an always-on machine and want complete control. Managed hosting is attractive when router access, uptime, hardware maintenance, and crash recovery are more work than you want to handle.

How a managed host deployment works
A hosted-server workflow documented by CurseForge follows five stages:
- Choose the modpack. Select All the Mods 7 – To the Sky and verify that the host supports the exact release you want.
- Choose a plan. Match the memory and player capacity to your group rather than selecting the cheapest tier automatically.
- Choose a region. Pick a location close to most players to reduce network distance.
- Enter server details. Set the server name and other panel options, then confirm the selected Minecraft and pack versions.
- Pay and deploy. Review the renewal terms, included backups, storage, and cancellation rules before completing the order.
CurseForge’s example hosted tiers included the following monthly prices and capacities when documented:

Those are example figures from the documented workflow, not a guarantee of current pricing or compatibility. Confirm the provider’s present price, available regions, backup policy, and explicit ATM7 To the Sky support before paying. If there is no one-click installer, upload the extracted server directory through FTP/SFTP or the provider’s file manager, then select the supported custom-jar or ServerStarter method.

Troubleshooting the first launch
The server exits immediately
Run the exact Java executable used by the startup script and compare its output with the runtime required by the pack. On a multi-Java host, java -version in a terminal may not be the same executable the script finds. Correct the path, rerun the script, and read the first error in the console or log.
Files are missing after extraction
Third-party antivirus software may quarantine libraries or interrupt extraction. Exclude the server directory temporarily, extract a fresh copy of the downloaded archive, and check that the directory structure is complete before launching. If files continue to vanish, inspect the antivirus quarantine and restore only files you trust from the official archive.
A host asks for a custom JAR
Use the host’s supported NeoForge/Forge installer when available. Otherwise use the ServerStarter approach or the custom-jar procedure documented by AllTheMods, and point the panel at the generated startup target rather than guessing a filename.
Players cannot connect
- Confirm that the client uses the same ATM7 To the Sky release, Minecraft version, loader, and configuration.
- Confirm that the server finished loading and is not still generating the world.
- On a home server, recheck the operating-system firewall, router forwarding rule, and the host’s current local IP address.
- From the server console, review the log for rejected connections, missing mods, or registry errors.
- Test locally first, then test from another network. Do not start changing mods until the basic address and version checks are complete.
The world breaks after an update
Stop the server and restore the most recent known-good world and configuration backup. Do not continue loading the only copy with a different pack version. Test updates on a copied world, record the old release number, and change the clients only after the server has been verified.
Backups and routine maintenance
Make backups before every change
Back up the world, configuration directory, server properties, and any scripts before updating the pack, loader, Java path, or installed mods. Keep at least one copy away from the live server. Label backups with the ATM7 To the Sky release and date so you know which files belong together.
Update as a coordinated operation
- Announce downtime and stop the server cleanly.
- Copy the current world and configuration to the backup location.
- Install the new server archive in a separate directory instead of overwriting the working installation.
- Apply only the documented loader and startup changes for that release.
- Launch the new copy, check the console for errors, and join with a test client.
- Move the group to the new release only after the test succeeds.
Watch logs and disk space
Review startup and crash logs after launches, keep enough free storage for world growth and generated libraries, and remove only files you understand. Automatic restart can bring a process back after a crash, but it cannot repair a corrupted world or a missing mod.
Which hosting method should you choose?
Choose self-hosting when
- You can leave a machine online and have administrative access to Java, files, firewall, and router settings.
- You want direct control over backups, scripts, loader versions, and maintenance windows.
- Your internet connection accepts inbound connections and your group is comfortable diagnosing logs.
Choose managed hosting when
- You cannot configure port forwarding or do not want your home network exposed to player connections.
- You need a separately hosted machine that can remain online without your desktop running.
- You prefer a control panel and provider support for hardware and network problems.
Whichever route you take, the reliable recipe is the same: select one ATM7 To the Sky release, install its matching server archive, verify the Java executable, allocate at least 6 GB with headroom, accept the EULA, test locally, and only then open the server to other players.
