Use the Java version documented by that particular pack release; ATM6 guidance commonly points to Java 11, while CurseForge’s general Minecraft 1.16.5 table lists Java 8.

Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →What you need before installing ATM6: To the Sky
Prepare these items before launching anything:
- A legal Minecraft Java Edition account for every player.
- The same ATM6: To the Sky release for the server and every client. Do not mix pack versions, even if they have similar names.
- A dedicated, writable folder on an SSD or other fast local drive. Avoid putting the server inside the vanilla Minecraft client folder, a cloud-synchronized folder, or a directory protected by restrictive permissions.
- A supported Java runtime. The ATM6-specific wiki recommends Java 11 and notes that JDK releases 8 through 14 may work. CurseForge’s general compatibility table maps Minecraft 1.16.5 to Java 8, so the server-pack documentation and its launch output take precedence over a generic table.
- Enough physical RAM to leave the operating system and other services comfortable after the server allocation. Allocating every available gigabyte causes swapping and can make the server less stable.
- Administrative access to the computer and, if friends will connect from elsewhere, access to the home router or a tunnel service.
ATM6: To the Sky is a large Forge-based modpack. Initial library installation and first-world generation can take several minutes; a blank-looking console during that period does not necessarily mean the process has failed.
Download the exact ATM6 server files
Find the matching release
- Open the ATM6 modpack page on CurseForge.
- Select Files and identify the exact release number your players will install.
- Open that release’s Additional Files section and download Server Files, not the client profile or a similarly named installer.
- Extract the archive into the dedicated server folder. Keep the supplied directory structure intact; scripts expect the included libraries, configuration files, and Forge files to remain in their relative locations.
The current AllTheGuides instructions explicitly use the pack’s Server Files archive. The ATM6 wiki also describes the full server pack as the replacement for the older installer-based flow. If a release contains its own README or launch notes, follow those notes over instructions written for another release.

Keep a clean copy
After extraction, make a backup copy of the untouched server-files folder. A clean copy gives you a way to compare configuration changes or recover from an accidentally deleted library. Do not copy a single-player client’s entire mods folder over the server folder; the client can contain mods that are not valid on a dedicated server.
Install and verify Java
Why Java versions are confusing
ATM6-specific documentation recommends Java 11, while CurseForge’s general table says Java 8 is recommended for Minecraft 1.16.5 and older. Those statements address different levels of compatibility. Forge builds, pack scripts, and bundled libraries can impose requirements that a general Minecraft table does not show. Identify the Minecraft and Forge versions inside the downloaded pack, read its included instructions, and treat a successful launch with the documented runtime as authoritative.

Check the runtime from a terminal
Run this command before starting the server:
java -version
Confirm that the reported major version matches the pack’s instructions. If several Java versions are installed, the startup script may use a different executable than the one on your system path. Inspect the script for a configured Java path or set the correct runtime in your operating system before troubleshooting Forge errors. Do not replace Java merely because a generic compatibility chart lists another version.
Start the server and accept the EULA
Windows
- Open the extracted server folder in File Explorer.
- Double-click
startserver.bat. If Windows displays a security prompt, verify that you downloaded the archive from the intended pack page before allowing it to run. - Let the first run finish generating files. It may download Forge or Minecraft libraries and can take several minutes.
- Close the console only after the process has stopped or reported an error. Look for the newly created
eula.txt. - Open
eula.txt, changeeula=falsetoeula=true, and save the file. - Run
startserver.batagain. Wait for a message indicating that the dedicated server has finished loading before attempting to join.
Linux
- Open a terminal in the server directory.
- Make the script executable:
chmod +x startserver.sh - Launch it:
./startserver.sh - Allow the first run to create files, then edit
eula.txtand seteula=true. - Run
./startserver.shagain and leave the terminal session or service running while players connect.
The supplied scripts are preferable to manually reconstructing Forge commands. AllTheMods scripts check Java and EULA state, install required libraries, and may restart the server after a crash. If the script exits immediately, run it from a terminal so the error remains visible.

Choose RAM without starving the computer
ATM6 guidance gives two useful starting points. The ATM6 wiki describes 5 GB as the default server setting for roughly two to three players and says 10 GB is typically enough for six to eight players, with CPU usually becoming the bottleneck at that point. A broader AllTheGuides server guide recommends at least 6 GB allocated RAM for most All the Mods packs. Treat these as starting allocations, not guarantees: world complexity, view distance, chunk-loading machines, and exploration all affect performance.
| Expected use | Starting allocation | Evidence and qualification |
|---|---|---|
| Two to three players | 5 GB | ATM6 wiki default guidance; increase it if the console reports memory pressure or the world contains heavy automation. |
| Most small servers | At least 6 GB | AllTheGuides’ general recommendation for most ATM packs. |
| Six to eight players | About 10 GB | ATM6 wiki guidance; CPU commonly limits performance before more RAM helps. |
Edit the supplied memory settings
Open the server’s startup script or the JVM argument file it references. Change the values named MAX_RAM and MIN_RAM, or the equivalent -Xmx and -Xms arguments. The ATM6 wiki recommends setting minimum and maximum memory to the same value so the JVM does not repeatedly resize its heap. For example, a 6 GB allocation is commonly written as -Xms6G -Xmx6G; use the variable names and syntax already present in your release rather than replacing the entire script.
Leave headroom for the operating system, the Minecraft client if it runs on the same computer, backups, and other services. On a machine with 16 GB total RAM, allocating 10 GB to the server while also playing locally can leave too little memory for the client and operating system. Increase allocation in measured steps instead of assuming that more RAM always improves tick speed.
Observe actual usage
Once the server is running, use the in-game or console command /spark healthreport if the pack includes Spark. The resulting report helps distinguish heap pressure from CPU, tick-time, or entity-load problems. If the report shows the CPU saturated while memory remains available, adding RAM will not address the bottleneck; reduce simulation or view distance, limit chunk loaders, or move the server to faster hardware.

Configure local and internet access
Test locally first
A dedicated server is visible locally by default, but not to people outside your home network. CurseForge’s server guidance describes this default behavior explicitly. Test the installation before changing router settings:
| Player location | Address to enter |
|---|---|
| Same computer as the server | localhost |
| Another device on the same home network | The server computer’s private IPv4 address, such as 192.168.1.25 |
| Outside the home network | Your public address and port after forwarding or tunneling is configured |
Port forwarding
- Give the server computer a stable local address, preferably through a DHCP reservation in the router.
- Create a router rule forwarding TCP port 25565 to that local address.
- Allow Java or the server process through the computer’s firewall when prompted.
- Have a friend test from a different network using your public address and port. Testing from inside the same network can produce misleading results on routers without NAT loopback.
Forwarding exposes a service on your home connection. Keep the operating system, Java runtime, router firmware, and modpack files updated, use a strong account password, and forward only the required port. If your internet provider uses carrier-grade NAT, ordinary port forwarding may not work; a tunnel such as Playit.gg can provide an alternate route without an inbound router rule, subject to that service’s terms and performance.
Do not change server-ip casually
Leave server-ip blank unless the pack documentation specifically requires a bind address. AllTheMods warns that unnecessary edits to server-ip, and often to server-port, can stop the server from starting. The default port 25565 is normally sufficient. If you changed either value while troubleshooting, restore the defaults, restart, and test locally before making one network change at a time.
Keep every client synchronized with the server
Every player should install the same ATM6 release that the server runs. A mismatched mod list, Forge build, configuration, or pack version can produce missing-mod errors, registry mismatches, or disconnects during login.

- Distribute the exact release identifier to players rather than telling them to install “the latest” version.
- Do not copy client-only mods into the server’s
modsdirectory. CurseForge warns that client-side mods are generally unnecessary there and can prevent the server from working. - When a player cannot connect, compare the client and server
logs/latest.logfiles and the listed mod versions before changing Java or networking. - Keep server configuration files consistent when the pack requires synchronized settings, but preserve server-specific files such as world data and operator lists.
Move a single-player skyblock world to the server
Always stop the server before importing or replacing a world. Copying files while the server is running can create partial region files and corrupt progress.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
- Run the server console’s stop command and wait for the process to close cleanly.
- Make a complete backup of the server folder, including the existing
worlddirectory. - Delete or move the generated server
worlddirectory. Moving it to a dated backup folder is safer than permanently deleting it. - Locate the single-player save in the client’s saves directory. Copy that save folder into the server directory.
- Rename the copied folder exactly
world, using lowercase spelling. - If the imported save contains
world/icon.pngand the file is unusually large, remove that icon; the ATM6 wiki identifies it as a possible import problem. - Start the server with the supplied script and watch the console for world-loading errors.
- Join with the matching ATM6 client and verify the island, inventories, advancements, dimensions, and loaded chunks before deleting your backup.
World migration does not make incompatible mod versions safe. Import the save only after the server is running the same pack and Forge combination used to create it, or keep a separate backup while resolving conversion errors.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Operate, back up, and recover the server
Use graceful shutdowns
Use the console’s stop command rather than killing the process or closing the terminal window. A graceful stop flushes region data and player inventories. Schedule backups while the server is stopped, or use a backup method that is explicitly safe for a live Forge world.
What to back up
- The entire
worlddirectory, including dimension folders. server.properties, whitelist and operator files, and the pack’s configuration directory.- The exact server-pack archive and any modified startup or JVM argument files.
- A dated record of the ATM6 release, Forge version, Java version, and RAM allocation.
Store at least one backup on a different physical device or location. Test restoring a copy periodically; a backup that has never been opened is only an assumption.
Best Value
Common failures and fixes
| Symptom | Likely cause | Action |
|---|---|---|
| The script says the EULA is not accepted | eula.txt still contains eula=false |
Stop the process, edit the file to eula=true, save, and run the supplied script again. |
| Java or class-version error | Runtime does not match the pack’s Forge/Minecraft requirements | Check the pack’s documentation and java -version; select the documented runtime before changing JVM arguments. |
| Server exits after changing networking | Invalid server-ip or conflicting port |
Restore a blank server-ip and the intended port, then test with localhost. |
| Friends cannot connect, but local players can | Missing port forwarding, firewall rule, public-address issue, or carrier-grade NAT | Verify TCP 25565 forwarding to the correct private address, check the firewall, and consider a tunnel if the ISP blocks inbound connections. |
| Client disconnects during login | Different pack release, Forge build, or mod list | Install the exact server release on the client and remove client-only files from the server. |
| Severe lag despite abundant RAM | CPU saturation, chunk loaders, entities, or excessive view/simulation distance | Use /spark healthreport, inspect tick and CPU data, then reduce load or move the server to faster hardware. |
Self-hosting or managed hosting?
Self-hosting gives you direct control over files, Java, RAM, backups, firewall rules, and restart behavior. It costs no monthly hosting fee if you already own suitable hardware, but you are responsible for uptime, updates, power, bandwidth, security, and recovery. The supplied AllTheMods scripts support Windows and Linux, install required Forge/Minecraft libraries, check Java and EULA state, and can restart after crashes.
A managed service removes much of the operating-system and network administration. CurseForge documents a hosted-server route powered by Shockbyte with these listed monthly tiers:
| Plan | Listed RAM | Listed price |
|---|---|---|
| Iron | 4 GB | $12 per month |
| Gold | 8 GB | $24 per month |
| Diamond | 12 GB | $36 per month |
Those figures are the prices shown on the cited CurseForge page and may change. The page does not establish that the current service supports this specific ATM6: To the Sky release, its required Java and Forge combination, or every feature you may need. Before paying, confirm the exact pack version, Java 8/11 and Forge compatibility, available region, automated backups, restart policy, file access, support scope, and refund or billing terms. A 4 GB plan is also below the ATM6 wiki’s 5 GB small-server starting point, so compare the actual allocation rather than choosing by player count alone.
Quick Recap
| Consideration | Self-hosted | Managed host |
|---|---|---|
| Setup effort | Install Java, extract files, configure firewall and possibly forwarding. | Usually provisioned through a control panel, but pack compatibility still requires verification. |
| Control | Full access to scripts, files, JVM, backups, and networking. | Depends on the provider’s panel, limits, and support policy. |
| Recurring cost | Typically your existing hardware, electricity, and internet costs. | Monthly fee; listed tiers above are examples, not a guarantee of ATM6 support. |
| Availability | Depends on your power, internet, and maintenance. | Provider handles datacenter uptime, while you still need independent backups. |
| Network exposure | Requires router forwarding or a tunnel for remote friends. | Usually provides a public endpoint, subject to provider configuration. |
Final pre-launch checklist
- Server and clients use the identical ATM6: To the Sky release.
- The selected Java runtime matches that release’s documentation and launch behavior.
- The first run completed,
eula=trueis saved, and the server reaches its ready state. - RAM is set deliberately, with equal minimum and maximum values where the script permits.
- The server works through
localhostbefore router changes are attempted. server-ipremains blank unless the pack explicitly requires a bind address.- Only server-compatible mods are in the server’s
modsfolder. - Remote access uses a correctly forwarded TCP 25565 rule or a chosen tunnel.
- Backups exist before importing a world or changing major configuration.
- The server is stopped cleanly before replacing the
worlddirectory.
