To host All the Mods 10: To the Sky successfully, install the matching server pack for the current Minecraft 1.21.1 and NeoForge release, run it with Java 21, and allocate enough memory for your player count. The current ATM10SKY-2.1.0 files include a dedicated server download. Plan on 10 GB for two to five players, 12–14 GB for five to 15, and 16 GB or more for 15-plus players. A fast NVMe drive, a strong single-thread CPU, reliable network access, whitelist protection, and tested backups matter as much as the RAM number.

What you need before installing
All the Mods 10: To the Sky is a skyblock modpack from ATMTeam. The current CurseForge files listing identifies Minecraft 1.21.1, NeoForge, release ATM10SKY-2.1.0, and a corresponding server file. Your players must use the same Minecraft version, mod-loader version, and modpack release as the server. A client pack and a server pack are not interchangeable.

What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
The project page’s performance tip says to allocate at least 6–8 GB of RAM for optimal performance. That is a baseline for the pack, not a complete sizing rule for a busy multiplayer world. Published multiplayer guidance raises the allocation as the number of concurrent players increases.
Hardware and software checklist
- A 64-bit operating system on a desktop, dedicated machine, or managed server.
- Java 21, which is the expected Java version for the current 1.21.1 NeoForge release.
- A CPU with strong single-thread performance. Modded Minecraft’s main server tick can be limited by one busy core even when other cores are idle.
- NVMe SSD storage. The world, region files, logs, and mod data generate frequent small reads and writes that are noticeably slower on a hard disk.
- Enough physical memory for Java plus the operating system and other services. Do not assign every available gigabyte to the Minecraft process.
- A stable connection with upload capacity appropriate to the number of players, plus router and firewall access if people will connect from outside your home.
How much RAM does an ATM10 To the Sky server need?
Use the following published bands as your starting allocation. They describe memory assigned to the Minecraft server, not the total RAM installed in the machine.

| Concurrent players | Recommended server allocation | Planning notes |
|---|---|---|
| 2–5 | 10 GB | Leave additional memory for the operating system, Java overhead, backups, and any other services. |
| 5–15 | 12–14 GB | Use the higher end when players explore separate areas, generate terrain, or run many machines simultaneously. |
| 15+ | 16 GB or more | Validate CPU performance, storage, and network capacity as carefully as memory; more RAM alone will not cure tick lag. |
ATMTeam’s general project guidance states “Allocate at least 6–8 GB of RAM for optimal performance.” The multiplayer figures above are from the All the Mods guidance and are more appropriate when several people are online. Start within the relevant band, then watch tick time, garbage-collection pauses, and operating-system memory pressure during real play. If the host begins swapping to disk, reduce the Java allocation or move to a machine with more physical RAM rather than allowing the operating system to run out.
Self-hosting or renting a managed server?
Both approaches can run the pack. The practical difference is who handles the network, operating system, updates, and recovery work.
Quick wins for a faster PC:

|---|---|---|
| Control | Full control of files, Java arguments, mods, permissions, and update timing. | Control depends on the provider’s panel and policy; verify that custom CurseForge packs and NeoForge are supported. |
| Setup work | You install Java and the pack, configure the firewall and router, and maintain the operating system. | The provider usually supplies an installer, console, storage, and network endpoint. |
| Availability | Your machine and internet connection must stay powered and online. | Designed for continuous operation, subject to the provider’s maintenance and outage policy. |
| Recovery | You must create, copy, and test backups yourself. | Look for scheduled backups, point-in-time restore, and downloadable rollback copies; do not assume they are included. |
| Cost pattern | Uses hardware, electricity, and your existing connection; upfront cost can be higher. | Recurring monthly fee, with price usually tied to RAM, CPU share, storage, and backup features. |
| Troubleshooting | You can inspect every log and process but are responsible for fixing failures. | Support quality varies; confirm that support staff understand Java 21, NeoForge, and modpack installations. |
For a home server, use a high-memory desktop or a dedicated machine with fast storage. A managed plan should provide Java 21, NeoForge, at least 10 GB of RAM for a small group, NVMe storage, console access, and an explicit process for installing the custom server pack. Compare single-thread CPU performance, allocated memory, NVMe capacity, player limits, latency to your players, backup and restore tools, update workflow, and support responsiveness—not just the advertised RAM.

Install the official server pack
Download the server archive that exactly matches the client release shown in the current CurseForge files listing. For the release identified above, that means the ATM10SKY-2.1.0 server file for Minecraft 1.21.1 and NeoForge. Do not download the ordinary client profile and rename it, and do not mix files from two releases. Even a small mismatch can produce missing-mod errors, registry differences, or a world that will not load.
Windows installation
- Install Java 21 and confirm that the command prompt finds it with
java -version. The output should identify Java 21. - Create a dedicated folder such as
C:MinecraftATM10Sky. Keeping the server separate from downloads and personal files makes backups and permissions easier. - Extract the downloaded server archive into that folder. Preserve the directory structure supplied by the pack; do not move individual libraries or configuration files elsewhere.
- Open the folder and run
startserver.bat. The first launch creates the EULA file and additional runtime files. Initial startup can take approximately three to five minutes. - Stop the process if it remains open, open
eula.txt, read the Minecraft EULA, and changeeula=falsetoeula=trueonly if you agree to it. - Run
startserver.batagain and wait for the console to report that the server is ready. Keep this window available for command input and error messages.
Linux installation
- Install Java 21 from your distribution’s supported package source and verify it with
java -version. - Create a dedicated directory, copy the server archive into it, and extract it without changing the supplied paths.
- Make the launch script executable, for example
chmod +x startserver.sh, then run./startserver.sh. - After the first launch creates
eula.txt, stop the process, read the EULA, and seteula=trueonly if you accept it. - Start the script again. Use a terminal multiplexer or a service manager so the process does not stop when you disconnect from SSH.
The supplied scripts are the safest starting point because they carry the pack’s expected NeoForge launch configuration. Avoid replacing them with a generic Minecraft command until you understand which libraries and arguments the pack requires.
Configure the server before inviting players
Set player capacity and distances
Open server.properties while the server is stopped. Set max-players to the number your hardware and community can support; a high value does not create capacity and can allow too many people to overload the machine. Begin with a view-distance of about 8–10 and a simulation-distance of about 6–8. View distance controls how much world data is sent and kept active around each player, while simulation distance controls how far entities, crops, redstone, and other game logic continue to tick. Lower these values if the server reports long tick times; raise them only after testing with your normal player count.

Protect access
- Enable a whitelist for a private community and add players from the server console with
whitelist add PlayerName. - Choose a port that does not conflict with another service. If you change the default, update
server-portand tell players which port to use. - Use the host firewall to allow the chosen TCP traffic and nothing unrelated.
- On a home network, forward the chosen port from the router to the server machine’s fixed local address. Test from outside the home network; connecting to your own public address from inside can fail on routers without hairpin support.
- Never give remote users operating-system accounts or file access merely because they are Minecraft players. Grant operator status only when necessary.
Set an identifiable message and access policy
Use the motd setting to identify the world and its rules. Keep operator privileges limited, and document who can approve whitelist changes, restore backups, or install updates. These simple controls prevent a private skyblock world from becoming an untracked public server.
First-boot test procedure
- Join from the host machine or the local network using the server’s local address. Confirm that the client has the exact ATM10SKY-2.1.0 profile.
- Open a new skyblock world and remain connected while checking the console for repeated errors, missing dependencies, or authentication failures.
- Test block placement, inventory access, quests, world generation, and any early automation your group expects to use.
- Have a second player join from the intended external network. Check latency, chunk loading, and whether the router and firewall rules work as expected.
- Watch the console and operating-system monitor during simultaneous exploration. Record memory use, CPU saturation, disk activity, and any “can’t keep up” warnings before adding more players.
- Stop the server cleanly with the console
stopcommand before copying files or changing configuration.
A clean local login does not prove that an internet-facing server is ready. External connectivity, backup restoration, and performance under concurrent exploration each need their own test.
Backups and safe updates
Keep backups outside the live world directory. A backup stored beside the active world can be deleted by the same disk failure, mistaken cleanup, or compromised account that damages the server.

Backup routine
- Stop the server cleanly before taking a complete world and configuration copy, or use a backup method that is explicitly safe for a running server.
- Include the world directory,
server.properties, whitelist and operator files, pack configuration, and any custom scripts. - Keep more than one generation and store at least one copy on a different disk or machine.
- Periodically perform a test restore into a separate folder. A file that was copied is not necessarily a backup you can successfully load.
Updating the modpack
- Announce maintenance and stop the server.
- Make a full rollback copy before changing any files.
- Check the current CurseForge files listing for the new client and matching server release, Minecraft version, and NeoForge version.
- Install the new server pack in a new directory rather than overwriting the known-good installation.
- Copy only the settings and world data you have reviewed. Do not blindly replace new configuration files with old ones; mod updates can add or rename settings.
- Start the new installation, inspect logs, and test with operators before allowing the rest of the community to join.
- If the world fails to load or a mod reports incompatibility, stop the server and restore the previous directory and rollback copy.
Back up before every modpack update. Skyblock progression can represent hundreds of hours of work, and a rollback plan is more valuable than an untested “latest” installation.

The server exits immediately
- Run
java -versionand confirm Java 21 is the executable used by the launch script. - Read the first error and its “caused by” section in the console or log rather than treating the final line as the diagnosis.
- Confirm that the archive was fully extracted and that the script is being run from the server’s own directory.
- Check that
eula=truewas set only after reading and accepting the EULA.
Players see missing mods or incompatible versions
Compare the client profile with the server release character by character: Minecraft 1.21.1, NeoForge version, ATM10SKY release, and any configuration or optional-content instructions. Reinstall the matching client and server files instead of copying random mods from another version.
“Can’t keep up” warnings or rubber-banding
- Check whether the host is swapping or has exhausted physical memory.
- Lower view distance toward 8 and simulation distance toward 6, then retest with the same player load.
- Identify whether one player is generating new terrain or running a dense automation area; those activities can create short CPU or disk spikes.
- Move the world to NVMe storage and choose a CPU with better single-thread performance if the main tick remains saturated.
- Do not solve every lag report by adding RAM. Once the Java heap is large enough, CPU, storage, simulation distance, and entity or machine load can be the limiting factors.
External players cannot connect
Verify the server is listening on the configured port, the operating-system firewall allows it, the router forwards it to the correct fixed local address, and the public address has not changed. Test from a genuinely external connection, and check whether the internet provider uses carrier-grade NAT, which can prevent inbound port forwarding.

The world is damaged after an update
Stop immediately, preserve the failed directory for diagnosis, and restore the pre-update copy. Do not repeatedly start a damaged world while experimenting; each launch can alter region or player data and reduce the value of the rollback.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesA practical hosting decision
Self-host when you already have a reliable always-on machine, can configure port forwarding and firewalls, and want direct control over files and update timing. Rent a managed server when uptime, remote access, automated backups, or simpler networking are worth a recurring fee. Whichever route you choose, require the same baseline: Java 21, NeoForge support, the exact server pack for the client release, NVMe storage, enough RAM for the real player count, console access, and a backup system you can restore.
For the current ATM10SKY-2.1.0 release, begin with 10 GB for two to five players, 12–14 GB for five to 15, or 16 GB and above for larger groups. Keep view distance near 8–10 and simulation distance near 6–8 until measurements justify a change. Test locally and externally, whitelist private worlds, and retain a rollback copy before every update.
