How to Host a Verity World AI Horror Minecraft Server (Java Forge 1.20.1 and Bedrock 1.26.30)

For the named VerityWorld multiplayer experience, use the Forge 1.20.1 Java server pack, currently listed as VerityWorld MC 1.20.1-2.3.0 Serverpack.zip. Install the same Minecraft, Forge, Verity and dependency versions on the server and every player’s client, test the pack in a disposable world, and only then configure the AI and invite friends.

Verity’s AI is a separate configuration layer. The Java guide documents either a Groq API key or a local Ollama model, but current multiplayer documentation does not confirm which machine sends dedicated-server requests or where credentials belong for every release. Bedrock is not interchangeable with Java: its official add-on uses Minecraft 1.26.30, Beta APIs, a connect command and cheats.

Start with the right edition and release

There are two distinct Verity installation paths. Treat them as separate products rather than two loaders for the same server.

Path Release identified in the current listings Distribution Multiplayer model
Java Forge 1.20.1; VerityWorld pack 2.3.0 CurseForge JAR files and a dedicated server ZIP Forge server plus matching Java clients
Bedrock Minecraft 1.26.30 add-on Bedrock add-on import Bedrock world with the add-on’s settings and connection workflow

The VerityWorld listing identifies the Java download as VerityWorld MC 1.20.1-2.3.0 Serverpack.zip. The listing showed a 1.5 GB file uploaded October 4, 2026, and 146,589 project downloads at the time it was accessed. Those figures describe that listing snapshot, not a permanent file size or popularity guarantee.

Do not combine the Forge 1.20.1 branch with the separate NeoForge 1.21.1 branch described in the general installation guidance. A loader mismatch can prevent the game from starting before Verity is even loaded.

What you need before installing the Java server

Prepare the software and a clean test environment first. The server pack is large, and each client also needs its own compatible game installation.

  • A Minecraft Java installation matching the server pack’s release: Forge 1.20.1 for the named VerityWorld pack.
  • The exact Verity release and every required dependency listed by that release.
  • The 1.5 GB server-pack ZIP, plus additional storage for the extracted server files, logs and world saves.
  • A machine or host that permits custom Forge server files and can keep the server process running.
  • A separate client profile for each player with the same Minecraft, Forge, Verity and dependency versions.
  • A disposable test world and a backup location before any long-running or public game begins.
  • An AI option: a Groq account and API key, or a computer running Ollama with a model available to Verity.

A hosting control panel can run server software, but it does not install the matching Minecraft client for your friends. Every participant still has to launch the compatible Java profile locally.

Install the Forge 1.20.1 Java server pack

Use the pack’s own included files and instructions when deploying it. The sequence below keeps the first launch reversible and isolates version problems from network and AI problems.

  1. Record the release. Write down the exact file name, Minecraft version, Forge branch and Verity version before downloading. If the project page has changed, do not assume a newer file is compatible with an existing world.
  2. Download the dedicated pack. Obtain VerityWorld MC 1.20.1-2.3.0 Serverpack.zip from the current VerityWorld server-pack listing. Keep the original ZIP unchanged so you can re-extract it if an installation becomes corrupted.
  3. Extract to a new server directory. Use a folder reserved for this test server, not an existing vanilla world or another modpack. Avoid mixing files from different Verity releases.
  4. Read the included server instructions. Follow the startup script, loader files and configuration layout supplied with that release. Do not substitute files from the NeoForge 1.21.1 branch.
  5. Install the matching client profile. On your own computer, create the Forge 1.20.1 profile specified by the pack and install the same Verity JAR and dependencies in its active mods folder when the pack instructions require client-side files.
  6. Launch the server once without custom additions. Accept any first-run prompts required by the server software, then stop it cleanly. This creates the initial configuration and exposes missing-file errors without optional mods complicating the log.
  7. Create a disposable world. Start a new test world rather than opening a valuable save. Confirm that Forge starts, Verity appears and the world loads normally.
  8. Check the client log and server log. A successful base test should show the expected loader and Verity versions without missing-dependency or wrong-version errors. If it fails here, do not proceed to networking or AI.
  9. Keep optional components out of the first test. Leave voice extensions, shaders, performance patches and unrelated mods disabled until a two-player Verity test succeeds.
  10. Back up the working directory. Preserve the clean, known-good server files and test-world save before changing configuration or updating a component.

Install matching clients for friends

Each player needs a client that matches the server’s complete stack, not merely the same Minecraft title. Give friends the exact Minecraft version, Forge build, Verity release and dependency list. A client with a different loader branch may crash; a client missing one required file may be rejected when joining.

Use a clean profile for every first connection

  1. Create or select the profile corresponding to Forge 1.20.1.
  2. Install the Verity JAR and all dependencies required by the server pack into that profile’s active mods folder.
  3. Launch a disposable single-player world first.
  4. Confirm that Verity loads without a missing-mod message or crash.
  5. Only then enter the server address or test a LAN connection.

This order matters. It tells you whether a failure is local installation, networking or AI instead of making all three variables change at once.

Configure Verity’s AI after the base game works

The Java installation guidance documents two AI choices. Configure neither until the clean world and basic multiplayer connection are working.

Option 1: Groq hosted requests

  1. Create an API key with the hosted AI provider.
  2. Open Verity’s in-game settings in the matching Java profile.
  3. Enter the key where the current Verity release requests it.
  4. Save the setting and test a short message in the disposable world.

Handle the key like a password. Do not place it in a shared ZIP, publish it in a server download, paste it into a public chat or send the same secret to every player. If a key has been exposed, revoke it with the provider and create a replacement.

  • The classic UNO card game builds fun on game night with a Minecraft theme.
  • UNO Minecraft features a deck and storage tin decorated with graphics from the popular video game.
  • Players match colors and numbers to the card on top of the discard pile as in the classic game.
  • The Creeper card unique to this deck forces other players to draw 3 cards.
  • Makes a great gift for kid, teen, adult and family game nights with 2 to 10 players ages 7 years and older, especially Minecraft and video game fans.

Option 2: Local Ollama model

  1. Install and start Ollama on the computer that will provide the local model.
  2. Pull a model supported by your Verity release.
  3. Keep the Ollama service running while testing.
  4. Point Verity to the local Ollama endpoint using the release’s current settings.
  5. Send a test message and watch both the game and Ollama logs for a response.

Ollama avoids a hosted account, but it adds a local service and hardware dependency. A model that works in single-player may still be unreachable from a remote dedicated server if the service is bound only to the local computer.

Dedicated-server credential uncertainty

The current multiplayer documentation does not establish which machine sends dedicated-server chat requests or where credentials belong for every Verity release. Do not guess a configuration-file path or copy a personal API key into a server pack. Before opening a public server, ask the maintainer for instructions specific to the exact release you installed. Until that is confirmed, treat the in-game Java settings as a single-player or locally tested configuration rather than proof that a remote server is correctly configured.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Test multiplayer in the safest order

  1. Owner-only test: Start the server and connect with the same clean profile used for the single-player check.
  2. Second-player test: Have one friend launch the identical profile and join. Keep voice extensions and unrelated mods disabled.
  3. World-behavior test: Walk through the areas where Verity should appear, send a short message and observe whether the server remains stable.
  4. Network test: If the friend cannot discover or reach the world, troubleshoot the LAN, address, firewall or host connection before touching AI settings.
  5. Optional-feature test: Add one voice or performance component at a time, restarting and checking the logs after each change.
  6. Public test: Only after two-player stability is demonstrated should you move the server to a public address or invite a larger group.

Keep the disposable world for this process. Once the pack is stable, make a backup before creating the permanent horror map or importing an existing save.

Can you use a hosted panel or Aternos?

The available Verity documentation does not certify a particular hosting provider, including Aternos. Compatibility depends on whether the host permits the required Forge branch, accepts a custom server pack of this size, allows the pack’s startup files and provides access to the configuration and logs you need.

  • Custom Forge 1.20.1 server software is supported.
  • You can upload and extract a 1.5 GB server archive, subject to the host’s storage and upload limits.
  • You can select or preserve the Java runtime expected by the server pack.
  • You can inspect startup and crash logs.
  • You can back up and restore the world independently of an update.
  • The host’s firewall and port setup allow the connection method you intend to use.
  • The AI configuration can be kept private and is not exposed in downloadable files.

If a panel offers a one-click modpack installer, check that it installs the same VerityWorld release. A generic Forge template is not automatically equivalent to the dedicated server pack.

Bedrock: a separate Verity route

The official Verity Bedrock project is an add-on, not a Java server conversion. Its listing specifies Minecraft 1.26.30, Beta APIs under Experimental Toggles, a connect command and cheats. Players communicate by typing Verity followed by their message.

  1. Use a Bedrock installation on the version required by the add-on: Minecraft 1.26.30.
  2. Import the Bedrock add-on through the Bedrock world workflow.
  3. Enable Beta APIs in the world’s Experimental Toggles as required.
  4. Enable cheats, as required by the add-on listing.
  5. Use the add-on’s documented connect command to establish its backend connection.
  6. Test the dialogue in a disposable Bedrock world before inviting others.

Do not put Java .jar files into Bedrock, and do not expect Forge server instructions, Java mods or Java configuration paths to work in this edition. The Bedrock listing showed 7,254,119 downloads at the time it was accessed; that is a listing snapshot, not a promise that every version or backend remains available.

Java versus Bedrock: which path fits your group?

Decision point Java Forge path Bedrock add-on path
Edition and version Minecraft Java with Forge 1.20.1 for the named server pack Minecraft Bedrock 1.26.30
Files Verity JAR, dependencies and the 1.5 GB dedicated server ZIP Bedrock add-on import
AI choices Groq key or local Ollama model are documented options Use the add-on’s connect/backend workflow
Server matching Every client must match Minecraft, Forge, Verity and dependencies Every player must use the compatible Bedrock world/add-on setup
Special settings Release-specific server configuration; dedicated credential placement is not confirmed Beta APIs, Experimental Toggles and cheats are required by the listing
Update risk Do not mix Forge 1.20.1 and NeoForge 1.21.1 branches Recheck the add-on’s required Bedrock version before updating

Choose Java when your group wants a dedicated Forge server pack and the ability to use Groq or Ollama as documented for Java. Choose Bedrock when everyone can use the specified Bedrock version and accepts the add-on’s Experimental Toggles, cheats and connect workflow.

Troubleshoot by isolating the failing layer

The game crashes or Verity never appears

  • Confirm Minecraft is the intended version.
  • Confirm that the loader is Forge 1.20.1, not NeoForge 1.21.1, for the named pack.
  • Confirm the Verity release and every dependency match the server pack.
  • Remove optional mods and retry with the disposable profile.
  • Re-extract the untouched server ZIP if files may have been overwritten.

A player cannot join

  • Compare the client’s complete mod and dependency list with the server.
  • Have the player launch a clean single-player world first.
  • Test the underlying LAN or hosted connection without changing AI settings.
  • Check the server log for a rejected handshake or missing file.
  • Only after the clean profile connects should you reintroduce voice, shaders or performance modifications.

Verity loads but does not answer

  • Test the base world without AI to prove the mod itself is stable.
  • For Groq, verify that the key is valid, private and entered in the release’s documented in-game setting.
  • For Ollama, verify that the service is running, the model is pulled and the server can reach the configured endpoint.
  • Review the exact release instructions because dedicated-server request routing and credential placement are not established generally.

The Bedrock dialogue is missing

  • Confirm the world is running Minecraft 1.26.30 as specified by the add-on listing.
  • Enable Beta APIs under Experimental Toggles.
  • Confirm cheats are enabled.
  • Re-import the current add-on and repeat its connect command exactly as documented.

Updates, backups and security

Verity projects change quickly. Before updating a long-running world, record the current Minecraft version, loader, Verity release, dependencies and AI configuration. Recheck the project’s current release page rather than assuming a newer file can open the old world safely.

  • Stop the server before copying a world backup.
  • Keep at least one backup from before each loader, mod or world update.
  • Store the original server ZIP separately from the live directory.
  • Never include Groq credentials in a shared pack or public repository.
  • Remove old test worlds and logs only after confirming they contain no needed recovery data or secrets.
  • When adding a mod, add one change at a time so a crash has a known cause.

Practical launch checklist

  • Edition chosen: Java Forge or Bedrock, not a mixture.
  • Java pack recorded: VerityWorld MC 1.20.1-2.3.0 Serverpack.zip.
  • Java versions aligned: Minecraft, Forge 1.20.1, Verity and dependencies.
  • Server extracted into a clean directory.
  • Disposable world launches before optional mods are added.
  • Every client passes a clean single-player launch.
  • Two-player connection works before public access.
  • AI tested only after the base multiplayer stack works.
  • API keys remain private.
  • World and working server files are backed up before updates.

Bottom line

For a Java multiplayer VerityWorld server, deploy the Forge 1.20.1 server pack, keep every client on the same stack, prove the base mod works in a disposable world and then add AI and optional features one at a time. Groq and Ollama are documented Java choices, but obtain release-specific guidance before placing credentials on a dedicated server. If your group uses Bedrock, start over with the separate 1.26.30 add-on path, Beta APIs, cheats and its connect workflow; Java JAR instructions do not transfer.
