Host Tensura Neo Otherworld on Minecraft Java Edition 1.21.1 with NeoForge, Java 21, and the matching server_pack_1.21.zip. The client and server must use the identical pack release; the files page currently lists release 1.1.2a, uploaded October 4, 2026. Download that server pack, launch it once to create the files, accept the EULA, configure access and networking, then test with a separate client before inviting players.

What the server requires
Tensura Neo Otherworld is a Tensura-themed adventure modpack for Minecraft 1.21.1 running on NeoForge. CurseForge listed release 1.1.1 on September 6, 2026 and a server pack on September 7; its files page later listed release 1.1.2a and server_pack_1.21.zip, both for Minecraft 1.21.1 NeoForge, uploaded October 4, 2026. Treat the release number as part of the server configuration, not as an optional detail: a player on a different pack revision can disconnect, see missing registry entries, or load a world with mismatched data.

| Item | Use for this pack | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|
| Minecraft | Java Edition 1.21.1 | The modpack targets this game version. |
| Mod loader | NeoForge | Forge and Fabric installations are not interchangeable with this pack. |
| Server files | server_pack_1.21.zip |
Contains the server-side files intended by the pack publisher. |
| Pack release | Pin one exact release, currently 1.1.2a on the files page | Every client must install the same release. |
| Java runtime | Java 21 | The current setup reference identifies Java 21 for this 1.21.1 NeoForge pack. |
The CurseForge project page showed 88,918 downloads in 2026, while its files page showed 304,600 total downloads at the time of the listing. Those counters indicate project activity, not a hardware requirement or a guarantee that a particular host will perform well.
Choose self-hosting or a managed server
Self-hosting means the world runs on your own computer or a virtual machine you control. You choose the Java runtime, pack archive, configuration, backups, firewall rules and upgrade timing. The trade-off is that you also operate the process: a failed update, closed port, exhausted disk or broken Java path is your problem to diagnose.
#1 Best Overall
- Play and share with friends on console, mobile and Windows 10
- discover community creations in the new in-game store
- access new mini games and game modes through servers
A managed host supplies an always-on machine and usually handles the public network endpoint. Modrinth Hosting positions its service around integrated modpack installation and NeoForge support, describing the workflow as finding a modpack and turning it into a server. Specialist pages from FadeHost and Hostd advertise preconfigured Tensura Neo Otherworld deployments. These are convenience options, not proof that every listing uses the current 1.1.2a release, so verify the version before paying.
| Decision point | Self-hosting | Managed hosting |
|---|---|---|
| Initial setup | Install Java, extract the pack, configure the OS and network. | Usually a control-panel deployment with modpack installation. |
| Monthly cost | No hosting bill, but you provide hardware, electricity and connectivity. | Recurring charge; price changes with RAM, CPU, storage, region and backups. |
| Control | Full access to files, scripts, JVM settings and upgrade timing. | Control depends on the panel and provider policy. |
| Networking | You open the firewall and, for home hosting, the router port. | The provider normally supplies the public endpoint and network protection. |
| Maintenance | You perform updates, restarts, monitoring and recovery. | The provider maintains the host, but you still manage the world and modpack configuration. |
| Backups | You design and test the backup schedule. | Retention and restore tools vary; read the exact policy. |
For either route, compare allocated CPU clock speed or CPU policy, RAM, NVMe or other storage, backup retention, geographic region, console access, DDoS and network policy, upgrade controls, cancellation terms and the exact Minecraft, NeoForge and pack release shown in the listing.

Plan RAM, CPU and storage before installation
There is no published official minimum RAM from the pack project in the available material. Hosting guidance is therefore a planning range rather than a developer requirement. FadeHost gives 4 GB as a general floor and 6–8 GB for heavier modded packs. Hostd lists a Tensura deployment with 10 GB RAM, six cores and 60 GB NVMe storage at $27.99 per month in its 2026 vendor listing. Prices and plans can change, and that listing is an example configuration rather than a universal requirement.
| Workload | Practical starting point | What to watch |
|---|---|---|
| Small private test | 4 GB, only if the world is lightly populated and the host has spare CPU. | Chunk-generation pauses, garbage-collection spikes and slow first starts. |
| Small group | 6–8 GB is the published heavier-pack guidance range. | Player count, exploration and simultaneous chunk generation can raise usage. |
| Larger or continuously explored world | A 10 GB specialist deployment is one published reference point. | More RAM cannot compensate for a weak CPU, slow storage or poor tick performance. |
Allocate only what the machine can spare. On a desktop that you also use interactively, leaving memory for the operating system and your Minecraft client prevents swapping. On a dedicated host, monitor actual use during exploration, not only while players stand in one area. Keep free disk space for world growth, logs, temporary files and at least one backup archive; the 60 GB NVMe figure above is a vendor example, not a guaranteed capacity target for every world.

Download and pin the correct files
- Open the Tensura Neo Otherworld files page on CurseForge and select the exact release you intend to run. At the time of the October 4, 2026 listing, that was release 1.1.2a.
- Download the matching client archive for players and
server_pack_1.21.zipfor the server. Do not mix a newer client with an older server archive. - Create a new, dedicated server directory. Keep it separate from your client installation and from unrelated Minecraft worlds.
- Copy the original ZIP to a safe location and record the release number, download date, Java version and any configuration changes in a text file. The untouched archive is useful if an update needs to be rolled back.
- Extract the server archive into the dedicated directory. Preserve the supplied folder structure and launch scripts; moving individual mod files out of their expected paths can break the startup process.
Do not add client-only shader, HUD or optimization mods to the server directory. Install those on a player’s client only when the mod author identifies them as client-side and they do not alter the pack’s required content.
Install Java 21 and perform the first launch
Verify the runtime
Install a 64-bit Java 21 runtime on the host. In a terminal opened in the server directory, run:
Free tools Windows power users keep installed
One-click scans. No signup required.
java -version
The output should identify Java 21. If it reports another major version, install Java 21 or edit the supplied launch script so it points to the Java 21 executable. A script can appear to run successfully while using a different system Java, so verify the version from the same account that will run the server.
Run the supplied launcher
- Start the NeoForge or start script included in the server pack. On Windows, use the supplied batch script; on Linux, use the supplied shell script and make it executable if the archive did not preserve that permission.
- Allow the first run to finish generating configuration, libraries, logs and the world directory. The first startup can take longer than later restarts while files are prepared.
- Stop the process cleanly after generation. Do not close the terminal or kill the process while it is writing world data.
- Open
eula.txt, read Mojang’s EULA, and change the acceptance entry toeula=trueonly if you agree to it. Save the file and start the supplied script again.
If the script reports that Java cannot be found, correct the Java path rather than downloading random replacement server files. If it stops on a missing library, confirm that the archive was fully extracted and that the host can reach the locations required to download dependencies.

Configure server.properties before inviting anyone
Stop the server before editing server.properties. The following settings address the decisions most Tensura servers need to make:
| Setting | Purpose | Guidance |
|---|---|---|
motd |
Text displayed in the multiplayer list. | Include the pack name and your chosen release so players know which server they selected. |
difficulty |
Sets the world difficulty. | Choose deliberately; changing it later can affect the intended adventure experience. |
white-list |
Restricts joins to approved names. | Enable it before sharing the address for a private server. |
view-distance |
Controls how many chunks the server sends around each player. | Start conservatively and raise it only after measuring tick time and bandwidth. |
online-mode |
Controls authenticated account checks. | Keep the normal authenticated policy unless you understand the security and identity consequences of changing it. |
Keep a copy of the original properties file before changing values. A typo can prevent startup or silently produce a setting different from what you intended. Change one group of settings at a time so a later problem has an obvious cause.

The server must listen on a port allowed by the host firewall. Minecraft servers commonly use TCP port 25565 unless you deliberately select another value in server.properties. Open the chosen port in the operating-system firewall. If the server is at home behind a router, forward the same port to the host’s private IP address and reserve that address so the forwarding rule does not break after a DHCP change.
- Allow the Java server process or the selected TCP port through the host firewall.
- Use a strong router and host administrator password; do not expose unrelated management ports.
- Share the public address only after the server is stable and the whitelist is enabled.
- Test from a separate internet connection, such as a phone hotspot. A connection from the same home network can succeed even when router forwarding is wrong.
- If your internet provider uses carrier-grade NAT, inbound forwarding may not work; use a provider that supplies a reachable address or choose managed hosting.
On managed hosting, the provider normally supplies the endpoint and networking. You still need to confirm which port, address, firewall rules and DDoS policy apply to your plan.
Install the identical pack on every client
- Have every player install Minecraft Java Edition 1.21.1.
- Install the NeoForge loader required by the Tensura Neo Otherworld client archive.
- Install the same pack release recorded for the server. If the server is on 1.1.2a, every player must be on 1.1.2a, not merely on a pack with a similar name.
- Launch the pack once locally so its configuration and required libraries are created.
- Connect using the server address only after the server console reports that it has finished starting.
Do not copy a player’s entire client mods folder into the server. Client-only visual and interface mods can cause startup errors or provide no benefit on a dedicated server. Conversely, removing a required content or library mod from the client can produce missing-mod or registry errors when joining.

Set up backups and an update routine
A modded world is valuable data. Schedule backups while the server is stopped or after using a safe save procedure, and keep at least one copy on a different machine or storage service. Retain multiple generations so a corrupted save is not copied over every good backup.
- Back up the world directories,
server.properties, whitelist and operator files, and any pack-specific configuration you changed. - Record the exact pack archive, NeoForge build supplied by that archive, Java version, RAM setting and date of each update.
- Test a restore on a separate directory. A backup that has never been restored is only an assumption.
- Before upgrading, stop the server cleanly and copy the complete current directory.
- Start the new release on a copy first. Check logs, player joins, quests, dimensions and saved inventories before replacing the production world.
Never downgrade a world casually after it has been opened by a newer pack release. If an update fails, restore the pre-update directory and its matching backup rather than mixing new configuration or generated data into the old installation.
What to check when choosing managed hosting
Do not select a plan solely by its advertised RAM. Ask the provider to state all of the following in writing:
- Exact Tensura Neo Otherworld release supported, including whether it is 1.1.2a or another revision.
- Minecraft 1.21.1 and NeoForge compatibility.
- Dedicated or shared CPU policy, including clock speed or guaranteed core allocation.
- Allocated RAM and whether the panel lets you change it without rebuilding the server.
- Storage type and capacity, plus backup frequency, retention and restore fees.
- Datacenter region, network limits, DDoS policy and the public port or address supplied.
- Console access, file manager or SFTP access, scheduled tasks and log retention.
- Upgrade, cancellation and world-download terms.
Hostd’s 2026 example lists six cores, 60 GB NVMe, 10 GB RAM and $27.99 per month. FadeHost’s published guidance places 4 GB at a general floor and 6–8 GB for heavier modded packs. Treat both as vendor guidance that can change, not as an official Tensura specification. A plan with less RAM can still work for a small private world; a plan with more RAM can still lag if CPU time, storage I/O or network routing is poor.
Troubleshoot the common failures
The server exits immediately
- Run
java -versionfrom the same account and directory used by the launch script; confirm Java 21. - Read the newest log rather than repeatedly restarting. A missing library usually means an incomplete extraction or failed dependency download.
- Restore the untouched server archive if files were moved or deleted during experimentation.
Players see missing mods or registry errors
- Compare the client and server pack release numbers character by character.
- Confirm both are Minecraft 1.21.1 and NeoForge, not a different loader or game version.
- Remove unapproved client files only after checking whether they are required content mods; do not “fix” the error by copying the entire client folder to the server.
Players cannot connect from the internet
- Verify the server is running and listening on the port configured in
server.properties. - Check the host firewall and router forwarding rule, including the host’s current private IP address.
- Test from an external network. If local connections work but external ones fail, investigate carrier-grade NAT or provider restrictions.
The world lags while exploring
- Watch CPU, memory and disk activity during new-chunk generation rather than when everyone is stationary.
- Lower
view-distancetemporarily and retest. - Move to the next RAM tier only after confirming the machine is not CPU- or storage-bound.
- Check that backups, antivirus scans or other scheduled jobs are not competing with the server process.
A restart appears to lose progress
- Stop through the console or supplied script so the world can save cleanly.
- Check timestamps on the world directory and logs.
- Restore the most recent known-good backup if corruption is suspected, and preserve the broken copy for diagnosis.
Pre-launch checklist
- Minecraft Java Edition 1.21.1 and NeoForge are confirmed.
- The server uses the matching
server_pack_1.21.zipand a recorded release number. - Java 21 is verified from the actual launch script environment.
- The EULA is accepted only after being read.
motd, difficulty, whitelist, view distance and online-mode policy are reviewed.- The whitelist is enabled and tested with approved and unapproved accounts.
- Firewall and router rules expose only the chosen Minecraft port.
- Every player has the identical client pack release.
- Backups run on a schedule, include an off-machine copy and have been test-restored.
- The pack archive, Java version, loader details, RAM setting and configuration changes are documented.
Once those checks pass, start the server, wait for the ready message in the console, connect from a separate client account and explore far enough to generate new terrain. That test reveals memory, CPU, storage and networking problems before a larger group depends on the world.
