How to Host a StoneBlock 2 Server (Forge 1.12.2 Setup Guide)

The reliable way to host FTB Presents StoneBlock 2 is to run the pack’s matching Minecraft and Forge build, use Java 8, start with about 4–6 GB of RAM, and require every player to install the identical client modpack. You can either choose a game host that installs StoneBlock 2 for you or install it from the Modpacks section of a host control panel.

What StoneBlock 2 requires

StoneBlock 2 is the FTB Presents Stoneblock 2 modpack for Minecraft 1.12.2, running on Forge. The official FTB listing identifies version 1.23.1 as the latest pack release shown there. Because pack listings and host panels can change, treat the pack release you select as the authority for the exact server files rather than assuming a newer Minecraft version is compatible.

  • Minecraft: 1.12.2 for the established StoneBlock 2 release.
  • Mod loader: Minecraft Forge; the FTB changelog records Forge 14.23.5.2860 for a StoneBlock 2 update.
  • Java: Java 8 is listed as required on the official FTB page. Confirm the requirement on that page when you install, because Java defaults on modern hosts may be newer.
  • Memory: begin with 4–6 GB of allocated RAM, then increase it if your player count or automation load causes lag.
  • Players: each person must install the same StoneBlock 2 pack version on their own computer.

The changelog notes that the Forge update to 14.23.5.2860 also patches the Log4J vulnerability. That does not make arbitrary Forge or Java combinations safe: use the versions bundled or specified for the pack release you actually deploy.

Choose your hosting method

Pre-installed managed hosting

A managed Minecraft host can offer StoneBlock 2 as a selectable pre-installed modpack. After payment, the provider creates the instance, uploads the pack files and mods, and exposes controls such as start, stop, restart, console, backups and file management. This is the shortest path if you do not want to install Forge or troubleshoot a server directory yourself.

  • PLAY TOGETHER — Play cross-platform with friends in Bedrock Edition on console, mobile, and PC, or join community servers in Java Edition on PC, Mac, and Linux. Online console multiplayer requires a platform-specific subscription (sold separately).

Before ordering, verify these details in the host’s current plan and checkout screens:

  • Which StoneBlock 2 pack version is installed (for example, 1.23.1) and whether you can change it.
  • The Minecraft, Forge and Java versions used by that installation.
  • How much RAM is dedicated to the server, not merely the plan’s headline amount.
  • Whether the control panel includes a server-files browser, file upload and backup/restore tools.
  • How the provider handles pack upgrades, downgrades and support when a player’s client no longer matches.

A pre-installed option is convenient, but it does not remove compatibility work. Your clients still need the same release, and changing a pack version can require a new world backup or a fresh world.

Manual installation from a host panel

Most modded-game panels provide a Modpacks tab. You select the pack, and the panel downloads the server files and mod jars for you. This route gives you more control over the selected release and is useful when a pre-installed option is unavailable.

Running the server at home

A home computer can run the software, but published StoneBlock 2 instructions do not establish router, firewall or port-forwarding steps. Hosted services normally perform that network setup for you. If you self-host, use your router and operating-system vendor’s current documentation for inbound-port and firewall configuration rather than copying an unverified port-forwarding recipe.

StoneBlock 2 hosts compared

Several providers advertise StoneBlock 2 hosting, but their catalogs and included controls can differ. Use the provider’s current checkout and support pages as the final authority.

Provider Published option What to confirm
BisectHosting StoneBlock 2 can be selected in the Minecraft selector and is set up pre-installed. Pack release, Java runtime, RAM tier, file access and upgrade policy.
PebbleHost StoneBlock 2 appears under “What would you like pre-installed?” during checkout. Exact Minecraft/Forge pair and whether the selected release can be changed later.
StickyPiston The pre-installed modded server listing uses pack version 1.23.1 and a control panel. Whether that version remains current, plus backups and rollback options.
ZAP-Hosting Offers Minecraft hosting that may include modpack choices. Whether StoneBlock 2 is available in your region and which release is installed.
ServerMiner Lists Minecraft server hosting and version choices. Do not rely on a generic “Latest Version” label; obtain the StoneBlock 2-specific Forge version.

Compare the monthly price for the actual RAM allocation, not only the cheapest advertised tier. Also compare whether backups, a server-files browser, modpack reinstall tools and responsive version support are included. The cheapest plan can cost more time if you must manually recover a broken update.

Step-by-step: install StoneBlock 2 through a host panel

  1. Pick the pack release first. Open the pack listing and note its Minecraft and Forge versions. The known StoneBlock 2 target is Minecraft 1.12.2; the FTB listing shows 1.23.1 as the latest listed pack version.
  2. Check the panel’s compatibility label. Some providers identify Forge 1.12.2 as the compatible server version, while another listing labels 1.15.0 as its “Latest Version.” That conflict is unresolved by the available listings. Do not select a number merely because it is newer; choose the server build that matches the exact pack release you intend to run.
  3. Set Java 8. Install or select Java 8 in the host panel if the panel exposes a Java/runtime selector. If the host manages Java for you, ask support which runtime is attached to the StoneBlock 2 installation.
  4. Allocate memory. Start at 4–6 GB. Leave enough memory for the operating system and panel overhead if you are managing the machine yourself.
  5. Open the Modpacks tab. In the panel, select Modpacks, search for Stoneblock 2, and choose the release that matches your planned client version.
  6. Click Install. Confirm the warning that installation may replace or add server files. The panel should upload the server files and mod jars.
  7. Restart the server. Stop and start, or use the panel’s restart control, so Forge loads the newly installed files instead of the previous server state.
  8. Create the world after installation. When the panel or first launch asks for a world, generate a fresh world only after the pack is fully applied. A world created before the mods loaded can lack expected modded generation.
  9. Test with one client. Install the identical StoneBlock 2 release locally, connect, and check that recipes, machines and world generation behave normally before inviting other players.

Take a screenshot or note of the installed pack and Forge versions after the first successful launch. That record makes later support requests and client troubleshooting much faster.

Installing from official server files

FTB maintains a server-files browser at https://feed-the-beast.com/modpacks/server-files/windows. Use it when your host does not provide StoneBlock 2 in its Modpacks tab or when you need the files for a controlled installation. The FTB changelog points to a server-download section and an installer guide, but the detailed installer steps are not established here; follow the instructions shown for the exact pack release rather than substituting instructions for another Minecraft version.

After downloading, verify that the server directory, Forge build, Java runtime and client pack all refer to the same release. Do not mix a server directory from one pack version with mods copied from another. Upload the complete directory through the host’s file manager, run the host’s designated Forge start command, and restart once all files are present. If the host provides an installer rather than a ready directory, follow that installer’s prompts for the selected release and keep the resulting files together.

RAM planning for different player counts

There is no published benchmark establishing a universal StoneBlock 2 memory requirement. The figures below are recommendations from hosting guidance, not laboratory measurements. Actual use depends on loaded chunks, machines, dimensions, exploration and automation.

What’s actually slowing this PC down?

Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
Use case Suggested allocation How to interpret it
One or two players 4–5 GB A practical starting range for a lightly populated world.
Small group 6–8 GB More headroom for several players, loaded chunks and growing automation.
Larger group or heavy automation 8–10+ GB Consider this only when the world and concurrent activity justify it; adding RAM alone does not fix every lag source.

Begin at 4–6 GB, watch the server console and in-game tick performance, and raise the allocation in measured steps if lag appears during normal play. Record the change and the conditions under which lag occurs so you can tell whether memory, a particular machine setup or world generation is responsible. Giving a server more memory than the host machine can comfortably provide can create its own problems, so leave headroom for the operating system and control panel.

Make every client match the server

StoneBlock 2 is not a vanilla server with optional client mods. Players need the modpack installed locally, including the same pack release and compatible Forge build. A launcher that supports FTB packs, such as the CurseForge launcher, can simplify installation.

  1. Have each player install the exact pack version selected on the server.
  2. Ensure the launcher uses the Java version required by that pack, Java 8 for the documented release.
  3. Do not add, remove or update individual mods unless everyone, including the server, receives the same tested change.
  4. Give players the server address only after one matching client has connected successfully.

Version mismatches commonly appear as missing-mod errors, registry failures, rejected handshakes or a disconnect during loading. The quickest fix is to compare the pack version and Forge build on the server with the launcher profile, then reinstall the profile if necessary. A player who copied a single mod into an otherwise correct profile can be just as incompatible as someone using an entirely different pack version.

World-generation and first-launch problems

Modded items appear in creative, but the world does not generate correctly

This symptom can mean the world was created before the complete pack was applied. Stop the server, back up anything you need, and create a new world after confirming that all server files and mods are installed. Advice to start a fresh world comes from guidance for the original StoneBlock setup; apply it cautiously and keep a backup because deleting a world is irreversible.

The server starts, then stops or loops during launch

  • Check that the selected Java runtime is Java 8 rather than an incompatible default.
  • Confirm the Minecraft and Forge versions match the pack release.
  • Review the console for a specific missing file or mod rather than repeatedly restarting.
  • If you changed pack versions, restore the previous backup or reinstall the complete matching server bundle instead of mixing files.

A host panel offers a different “latest” version

Do not use the panel’s generic “latest” label as proof of StoneBlock 2 compatibility. One listing identifies Forge 1.12.2 as compatible, while another labels 1.15.0 as its latest version. Treat that as a version conflict and ask the host which Minecraft/Forge pair is supplied for the selected StoneBlock 2 release. The pack’s own release metadata should win over a generic panel label.

Players are kicked for missing mods or registries

Export or reinstall the same launcher profile used by the server’s pack release. Compare the mod list and Forge version, remove client-only additions that were not part of the pack, and reconnect only after the profile reports the intended version.

The panel installation replaced existing files

Stop making changes and check whether the panel created a backup or restore point. If you have a backup, restore it before trying another pack release. If no backup exists, ask the host whether the previous world directory is still available. Installing a second pack over an existing directory can leave a mixture of configurations and mods, so a clean reinstall of the complete matching bundle is safer than deleting a few unfamiliar files.

Backups, upgrades and safe maintenance

Use the panel’s file browser and backup tools before changing pack versions, Java settings or world files. Keep at least one backup from before the change and label it with the StoneBlock 2 version, Minecraft version and date. Upgrade the server and all clients as one coordinated change; upgrading only one side creates avoidable connection and registry errors.

When testing a new release, use a copy of the world first. A fresh test world can show whether Forge and the mods load, while a copy of the real world reveals whether existing machines and chunks remain usable. Keep the original world untouched until the test succeeds. Shut down the server cleanly before copying files so that region and player data are not captured mid-write.

After an upgrade, connect with one client and inspect a familiar area before inviting the whole group. Check that machines open, recipes resolve and dimensions load. If anything is wrong, stop the server and roll back rather than continuing to play on a potentially damaged world.

What to verify with a host before paying

Question Why it matters
Which StoneBlock 2 version is installed? The FTB listing shows 1.23.1, but panel catalogs can expose different releases.
Which Minecraft and Forge builds are used? StoneBlock 2 is tied to Minecraft 1.12.2 and a matching Forge build; a generic “latest” label may be wrong.
Can I select Java 8? Java 8 is the documented requirement for the pack listing.
How much RAM is dedicated? Use 4–6 GB to start and choose a tier that can be increased for larger groups or automation.
Can I browse and replace server files? File access helps with backups, controlled updates and recovery.
Can I downgrade or roll back? Rollback support matters when a pack update breaks a world or a client cannot update immediately.
What support is included for modpack problems? Modded servers require version-specific help; confirm what the provider will troubleshoot.
Can I download my world? A downloadable copy gives you an additional recovery option if you change providers.
Are upgrades optional? Keeping a fixed release lets every player update together instead of forcing an immediate client change.

Limits of the installation guidance

Some online reports describe installer failures for StoneBlock 2 on Minecraft 1.18.1 through the official launcher. That is a different Minecraft generation from the 1.12.2 pack and should not be treated as evidence that the documented 1.12.2 setup will fail. Likewise, old forum discussions contain historical logs that may not describe current host images or pack files.

The exact current 2026 pack version and its matching Forge build should be confirmed in the live FTB listing and the host panel at installation time. If those sources disagree, pause the deployment and ask the host which release they support rather than guessing.

Frequently Asked Questions

What Minecraft version does StoneBlock 2 use?

The established FTB Presents Stoneblock 2 release runs on Minecraft 1.12.2 with Forge. Confirm the exact pair for the pack version shown by your host or the FTB listing.

Which Java version should a StoneBlock 2 server use?

Java 8 is listed as the requirement on the official FTB page. Select Java 8 in the host panel or ask the provider to confirm that runtime.

How much RAM does a StoneBlock 2 server need?

Start with 4–6 GB. Guidance places one or two players around 4–5 GB, a small group around 6–8 GB, and larger or heavily automated servers around 8–10 GB or more.

Is it easier to buy a pre-installed server?

Yes. BisectHosting and PebbleHost advertise pre-installed StoneBlock 2 options, while StickyPiston lists a pre-installed 1.23.1 server managed through a panel. You still must match the clients to the installed release.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Can I install StoneBlock 2 manually?

Yes. In a compatible host panel, open Modpacks, search for Stoneblock 2, select the matching release, click Install, and restart the server. You can also use FTB’s server-files browser when the panel lacks the pack.

Why can players join vanilla servers but not this one?

StoneBlock 2 requires a matching client modpack and Forge build. Missing mods, a different pack version, or an individual client modification can produce registry or handshake errors.

Do I need a new world after installing the pack?

Create the world only after the complete pack has loaded. If modded items appear in creative but normal generation is wrong, back up anything important and test with a fresh world.

What should I do when a host says Forge 1.15.0 is latest?

Do not select it automatically. One listing identifies Forge 1.12.2 as compatible while another uses a generic 1.15.0 label. Ask the host for the Forge build tied to your selected StoneBlock 2 release.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Can I host StoneBlock 2 from home?

A home computer can run the software, but router, firewall and port-forwarding steps are not established by the documented setup. Follow your router and operating-system vendor’s current instructions or use a managed host.

When should I upgrade the pack or add RAM?

Upgrade only after making a labeled backup and testing a copy of the world. Increase RAM when normal player activity or automation causes lag, and update the server and every client together.

The Bottom Line

For the least friction, choose a host that explicitly pre-installs FTB Presents Stoneblock 2, verify the exact 1.12.2/Forge release and Java 8, and begin with 4–6 GB of RAM. For more control, install the matching release from the panel’s Modpacks tab or FTB server files. In either case, create the world after the pack loads, keep backups, and make every player use the identical client profile.
